Yes, I do know who owns the GPS satellites. I live right down the road from and under the primary F-35 & F-16 training base traffic pattern. Thank you for the refresher.
Several manufacturers do indeed make flight-tested receivers capable of using signals from multiple constellations. They are generally sold as GNSS (Global Navigation Satelite System) receivers as that is the standard term for any satellite navigation system providing global coverage. Such multi-constellation systems not only benefit from redundancy but can provide superior accuracy in general with more data it's possible to solve for the position at higher precision with the same confidence threshold. This is simply due to the fact that there are a bunch of statistical techniques to detect, quantify and even filter out random noise in ordered data, and these work better the more data points they have to work with. The satellite signals are ordered data about which precisely the sorts of assumptions needed to make those techniques work can be made (Basically these techniques rely on the data having known internal dependencies which satellite navigation data signals do all times are related by the physical constant c for example).

Joe, Thank you for making videos like these, I want to become a commercial pilot when I become an adult, And these videos are helping me with understanding many small things about flying.
Thank you, but I am guessing you were not asked or had a say-so in the financing of the US GPS. Things like this just get decided over the US taxpayers head (or even behind their backs) - some call it the *industrial military complex* en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military%E2%80%93industrial_complex , which Eisenhower warned early on about: ruclips.net/video/8y06NSBBRtY/видео.html Fortunately other countries also have satellites in place. The EU for example has the Galileo system: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_(satellite_navigation) It is accurate down to 0,2m precision! Read who has been and is financing the project at the moment! You are welcome :-)
US GPS, European Galileo, Russian Glonass, even a chinese one coming up. They're all available at the moment and it's unlikely galileo will turn the light out. (compared to GPS/Glonass). Note that GPS is already preventing usage in some area of the worlds or intentionally reduced precision. Also, they charge you for anything more precise than 20m on ground (that's why sea swimmers are complaining when using smart watch as it doesn't show their path very well :D)
I don't think the US Air Force would turn off access to the GPS satellites. Civilians have become so dependent on GPS, that it would be a disaster to the US economy to shut it off. It would be a case of 'cutting off your nose to spite your face'
Back in the old days, we called the VOR unit in the airplane the "VOR display" or simply the "VOR" It was controlled by the right side of the "nav/com" unit. The "CDI' was the needle in the VOR display known as the "course deviation indicator". If it also had a glide slope receiver, the horizontal needle was called the "glideslope". We flew "radials" outbound and the reverse was known as the "course' Short version, "Radial is outbound- course is inbound". The old text books read this way. Some still explain it this way. I agree it's easier.
You spread positivity just by talking, even if you're talking about VORs.
You're truly a good person.

mannn i like the way of teaching in the car. It was a perfect example and u made it look really simple. thx for the video keep rocking joeeeee
I thought that was a UFO in the thumbnail 😂
That nails it: 'Unbekanntes funkendes Objekt'.
Thank you sooooo much for this lesson! This was my lesson on navigation today and when i saw you have this video it just helped me so much more! Again thanx!
HEY YOU YES YOU THE ONE WHO IS READING THIS YOU ARE GOING TO BE 'SUCCESSFUL' ONE DAY & MAKE YOUR PARENTS PROUD🤗😁💯✈️
Yaaay!! Thanks for explaining what a VOR does! Those were one of those things in flight training that really confuses me, bu thanks for explaining!
hello
Joe, Thank you for making videos like these, I want to become a commercial pilot when I become an adult, And these videos are helping me with understanding many small things about flying.
The US Air Force operates GPS. As an American taxpayer who's tax dollars keep it up and running: you're welcome!
There are other systems in place though and they are being used too.
Thank you, but I am guessing you were not asked or had a say-so in the financing of the US GPS. Things like this just get decided over the US taxpayers head (or even behind their backs) - some call it the *industrial military complex* en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military%E2%80%93industrial_complex , which Eisenhower warned early on about: ruclips.net/video/8y06NSBBRtY/видео.html
Fortunately other countries also have satellites in place. The EU for example has the Galileo system: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_(satellite_navigation)
It is accurate down to 0,2m precision!
Thanks Capt. Joe; especially the driving part you used example with the center line!
I don't think the US Air Force would turn off access to the GPS satellites. Civilians have become so dependent on GPS, that it would be a disaster to the US economy to shut it off. It would be a case of 'cutting off your nose to spite your face'
You underestimate the vindictiveness of Trump.
