As an American, I have a great deal of respect for King George and Queen Elizabeth. Class acts. The King was a fine example of a man who didn't want to lead but rose to the occasion and became the leader to fit the time. A leader the people needed. They also raised a fine queen in Queen Elizabeth II who spent nearly her entire life in service. A life not of her own. I suspect he was a better King that his foolish and Selfish brother would have been.

It's amazing, to me, that three Monarchs, George V, George Vi and Queen Elizabeth II, were not meant to rule, yet they made great Monarchs. George VI, compared to Edward VIII, was a Godsend.

I worked with a man , about 30 years older than me who had a "stutter". He too was an un-assuming man ,BUT my God ,if he had something to say ,we heard it alright.
He used to turn things on its head , "I dont stutter , I just repeat myself so it sinks into your thick heads ."
He was a HUGE influence on us . One thing that was picked up on ,he didnt like anyone finishing a sentence for him . Although as a youngster I respected that, its only in the last few years I think I began to understand why.
Hes long gone now , if there is such a thing as "calling " from the beyond, ,I dont care how many attempts it takes him. Theres a dozen apprentices owe this man...........perhaps he taught us twice.

King George and Queen Elizabeth’s courage in staying in London and going to bombed out areas of London boosted public morale and helped to save Western civilization from Hitler during WWII. We survivors owe the monarchs and Winston Churchill a debt of gratitude for their bravery.

What a wonderful man, and what a terrific King, I have always adored King George (Bertie). He saved the monarchy, because I feel if his brother hadnt stepped down it would of led the people and the government to remove him and the monarchy. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother had such tremendous grace and was elegant, and had a radiance that I dont feel any other woman who has married into the family has had.

The helicopter arrived and landed on the East Lawn to take HM back to London for Her daughter's funeral. We put the little steps out and Fred was helping HM into the helicopter. He put the rug around her legs and when She was settled, he said, "We'll see you soon Ma'am." She said, "No, I won't be back." It's actually been said by many sources that the opposite was true. As much as she liked Bertie, Elizabeth didn't want to marry into the royal family at all because she felt her lifestyle would be limited by it. She had an interest in another man who her parents and Albert worked behind the scenes to get rid of. She eventually gave in because people drove home the point (which should have been true) that she wouldn't become queen and there would be far less scrutiny on her household. Her parents were definitely interested in her marrying into the royal family, and her mother may have wanted her to marry the Prince of Wales, but they were willing to take what they could get.

?Principaled? Wallis Simpson? She had an extra marital affair with Edward, Prince of Wales and accepted expensive jewels and other gifts from a man not her husband. I don't call that "principaled". Wow, this documentary is very slanted in sympathy with Edward VIII (Duke of Windsor) indeed. Although Princess Margaret was definitely a favorite of her father, it was his wife Queen Elizabeth who was able to calm George when he was experiencing his rages and anxieties. Margaret. Margaret was too selfish to play that type of role with her Father. Margaret was also too young initially to be at her Father's side and play that type of role with him. Not the same as his wife Queen Elizabeth, later known as the Queen Mother. It seems like this documentary is trying to rewrite history. It wasn't "luck" that caused King George to overcome his shyness and stammer and gain the love of his people. It was sheer hard work and determination and the commitment and support of his wife and family that resulted in his success. How insulting to say that George had "luck" as a primary factor of his success.

David was like any other self-indulgent brat, relishing his privileges and chafing at responsibility. Wallis was not courageous but merely irreverent. She played fast and loose until it finally caught up with her. Who puzzles me is Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon and her motto about duty. It makes perfect sense that she would be appalled at the Wallis and David affair. And that no less because it would compel her reluctant husband to the throne which then contributed to his premature demise. It seems a contradiction that she later facilitated the adultery between Camilla and Charles. Where was her sense of duty in that?

For example, the Royal Family were subjected to rations and cuts just like everyone else, and their usual spending on food, clothes, fuel and entertaining was drastically altered. A good source for this is THE LITTLE PRINCESSES by Marion Crawford.
The British public really took the Royal Family to their hearts during the war, especially after they were bombed at Buckingham Palace.

Also, the British Royal Family had a German branch. The Crown Prince of Germany Wilhelm was a Nazi. It could have been just knowledge from the German Cousins that lead to the bombing of Bucks House during WW2. Though Edward VIII was a Nazi sympathizer. The Queen Mary was to blame for the failure of the Duke of Windsor to MARRY appropriately as the Prince of Wales.

I agree. She was so against his choice and let everyone knew. She wasn’t very supportive and loving with her children. I agree she was a great Queen, but not as a mother. Plus King George was cold toward his kids. With two parents that way. I feel bad for the kids

Edward was a weird little man physically and emotionally. The world had a lucky escape when he was kicked off the throne and sent into exile. The nonsense you spout about him is ridiculous.

What is WRONG with you Yanks? You always get Royalty wrong. The Monarch is always named first.... it is George and Elizabeth. Sheesh.

Lol...well, we don't do the whole Royalty here and, ladies first. 😊 This Yank had a great deal of Respect for old George VI. The man rose to the occasion and did do well. I also admired hos daughter. I would have been proud to meet both. But, I could never have bowed to them. I am a son of the Revolution and my ancestors on my mother's side are from Great Britain. A country I'm very happy to be allied with. But, I am also a patriot and love my country very much and...we don't have royalty and we don't bow to those with Royal title.
Honestly, I fear my nation is sliding toward an elite ruling class and much like an aristocracy. To many here have either forgotten or never learned why we cast old Mad King George III aside. They have forgotten why we have our Constitution and Bill of Rights. I also worry about the UK today. Our political class currently are once again pitting us against each other so that they can protect their power and their wealth as well as for the elite ruling class.
Yes, we do get or wrong because...we just don't do that. Hopefully, it stays that way

The RF somehow seems not to want a 'King Albert', perhaps as a reaction against Queen Victoria's husband - Albert, the Prince Consort.
Edward VII and George VI (son and grandson of Victoria and Albert respectively) were both named Albert, and both refused to use it as their regnal name.

The woman lived to be 103. She outlasted many a skinnier person. Who cares why she got fat. It happens.
