Because he's already "defiled" it with new paint. Once you strip it back to bare metal i doubt it matters what original colour you paint you in terms of value.
This is exactly what I wanted to see , a full nut and bolt resto . If it were my car I’d keep it white but it’s your car, your project so it’s however you want it to be ! Keep up the great work, love the channel, love the commitment !
As much as I love the blue and green coloured cars you flashed up on the screen, I think keeping the car original white is the best choice, keep it as original as possible! Loving this series, can't wait for more!!
Regarding colour, if you are planning on keeping it (and I would find it impossible to let it go after everything you are doing) then you should paint it a colour that makes you happy. Life is too short to be worried if your car is the original colour or not. So what? It doesn't have the original air in the tyres. And the two tone paint job on a 512 is absolutely glorious. You are brave and it is a joy to watch your commitment to this project.
I am blown away by how you know how to do all of this stuff. As a camera operator, I am fairly mechanically inclined with tech, but this is incredible. Your videos have helped me get through the pandemic for sure. Having used to own a white 1970 911E, I say keep it white. Love the look. Congrats on all your hard work and success! Can't wait for more!
It wouldn't be my colour of choice when bought new, but in this case I wouldn't change it. It's become a phenomenon, partly because of its colour. Having said that, you can of course do as you please.
Definitely keep the white in my opinion. It looks great and having an original colour will appeal when you sell it. I guess you will have to sell it at the end.
Stick with the original white, you liked the look of it when you first saw it so why change. Just recreate the tyre pressure stickers. Rock and a hard place with that screen though!
Definitely keep it the original colour Scott. It looks awesome in white, personally I think it would detract from its originality and value to change it. Keep up the fantastic work, I’m really looking forward to every new episode! 👊👊👊
Scott, your rebuild has been so articulately managed, you could almost paint this any color you want. And it would still be one of the most significant reveals on RUclips. Really great work. 👍🚙
If you can remove the trim around the windscreen, I would leave the screen in. You can do a quality paint job in around the edge of the screen and then replace the trim over the masking edge when you are done. Looking good, and my hat is off to you sanding all of that paint off manually. Well done.
Cheers Jeff, I think my attack plan is (carefully) remove the trim and see what its like beneath. If there's enough edge around the screen to do a good paint job then thats the plan.... leave it in
If you do remove the screen and it's in good condition then find a company that uses the wire method tooling to cut the bonding away. That's if it's a bonded screen. Won't damage the screen then. 😉
@@Ratarossa as long as the seal is good I would leave it in. You have enough expensive parts already. Well done on the fabrication. I could see the grinding wheel flying off the bench : )
@@Ratarossa that's sou d advice from Jeff. Strip the trim and work around the screen being in place. Not worth risking breaking a perfectly good windscreen. Keep it white. On the decals, any decent sign place will be able to work on a photo of them. Love the build scott
1. Original colour (for obvious reasons). 2. Mask off the original windscreen if there is no rust around it. 3. New stickers. There is no way to paint it properly while leaving them on. (+Basically any decal shop can make new ones)
For the windshield...leave it alone. It is sealed and it isn't broken. For the color...keep it white. It looks REALLY good in that color, plus, you are going through all of this effort to save a rare car that was well known. It really doesn't make sense to change the color. Keep at it, bud! I am very impressed with your work on this.
I have to agree with you for that reason alone, one other reason that I'm not seeing mentioned is because it looks awesome in white, I think it really suits the car IMHO
Man... the high speed viewing makes it look easy, but this is truly the biggest bummer of any restoration.. I can't imagine the guys who own that shop were thrilled about hearing, and breathing in that environment for several days. Good on ya man! Looking good!
Incredibly impressed with how this is coming along! How will you ever remember how to reassemble everything???? I really love the original white color for that car. A close second would be silver.
I found this channel by accident and loved watching the 512 videos. This sort of thing is an ambition for me - take a car that’s sat on someone’s drive and rebuild it. My input for the questions: Keep it the original colour!
For the tyre pressure stickers there is a company called Divine Hand Crafts, they mainly do replacement OEM quality stickers/decals for Lotus cars but I'm sure Dan might be able to help you out
You'll probably need to replace the sticker. As a builder of plastic models my advice is to scan the sticker and recreate it in your computer. Get the proper printer stock to make a new sticker/decal for your door, and then put it on when you finish the repaint. Also, please leave the car the same color. I think it deserves it.
Start of the video I thought you looked jacked and I was wondering how you’d been lifting and doing all of this work on the car and the videos. Then you showed the two days of paint removal and it made sense. Hard manual labor is the original cross fit. Disassembling and restoring by hand a hand built classic. This is epic, you are legend. In the end you’ll have one of the most interesting Ferraris on the planet. Also, colors. I hope you choose the color that makes your heart scream with joy every time you see it! Only you know what color that is. Cheers mate!
100% keep it white. For one thing, the white just works so well with the beautiful blue interior. So many of the colors you showed would clash with the blue(like yellow...ugh). As Jeff said above, remove the windscreen trim and carefully mask the edge. If you are keeping the original color than its no big deal if there is some base coat from the old job underneath. As for the stickers, take high quality photos and measurements of them and have new ones printed at a good sign shop.
In one of the early vids on this car, you mentioned that only a small handful of this model came in white. I think that would be a good reason to keep it the same colour, even if it is no longer original paint.
Another riveting update. I love these videos and am really enjoying watching this project progress, so thank you for sharing them. As for the colour, normally I am very much a rosso corsa 322 man when it comes to Ferraris, however they do undeniably also look good in white, and since that was the original colour of this one, it does seem appropriate in a nuts and bolts restoration to retain the original colour... at least in my opinion!
The car will be better than new when you finish. It wears me out watching the hard work you’re putting into it. Of course at your age I rebuild a wrecked cabin cruiser boat that was similarly wrecked as your Ferrari. It actually had a tree growing through it’s deck. When finished I was so proud of it. Years later when my first child came along I sold it to have the money I needed to do right by my family. I wish I still had it. Your Ferrari will be worth a fortune, I figure. Don’t sell it!
With regards to the front window; remove the moldings only and have them polished. Do not remove windshield, mask off and paint. You're doing great man!!! Take your time and do it right. With regards to exterior paint colors, I think the white looks nice with dark blue interior. However, if you are leaning toward a color change, stay with a model/year correct blue or silver. Many blessings from California.
Remove the windshield trim up until the glass edge if possible, Not only are you saving the factory glass but your preventing any future leaks without breaking the factory seal, Once the trim is cleaned and reconditioned NOBODY will be able to tell. And for those tire pressure decals, Reproduce them, if they have part numbers on them just copy them and install them in the exact location use measurements for the exact location.... This build is coming along PERFECT!!!!!👍👍👍👍
for the front window id take the trim off if possible and leave the window in place and then just mask it ,simply because if you put the trim back youll never see it again :)
Yes I agree, keep the original screen in place. It's not worth the risk to crack it then you'll probably have to have a non genuine screen fitted which will bug you. The trim will hopefully cover the masking lines. Oh and 100% keep it in white, it's too rare to change colour plus white is reasonably fashionable colour these days anyway :-)
I must give due credit to your determination with the preparation. Having done a lot of this work on older cars you seem to be on the right track. The original White really suits that car. I believe it is a rare colour option as well. The sensible course of action is to retain the original white because you can't go wrong. It really is a beautiful and valuable car. Good job mate.
Assuming no rust in the windscreen area and if you can replace the windshield trim, I would pull the trim, tape and protect the screen and paint t the car, then reinstall the trim. Catalyzed paint ( aka 2k or 2-pack) doesn't melt into the previous work, and once it dries, new 2k doesn't melt into it. The catalyst chemically alters it so once it sets, that's it. The point is, your edge will show and eventually peel back if you leave it exposed. Paint beyond the trim, then cover with the trim and you are good to go.
I think the old-school trick for the sticker was to put some tape over it. The tape has to be strong enough to hold, yet weak enough to come off cleanly. This keeps things together so you can scrape it off.
Definitely keep it the original white, I was skeptical at first about removing the original paint, however, if there's any kind of early rust buildup that can't be seen it's better to fix everything in one go, after all that car sat for 14 years under british weather, I was expecting worse from the bare metal but it looks quite nice on the video! this restoration is going amazing! can't wait to see the finished product. Greetings from Venezuela, I love Ferrari and seeing someone work these things in such detail is a real treat.
@Ratarossa, in regards to the windscreen, when I worked at the Tesla factory in training and special projects, we used a system called the Equalizer for glass removal. It did an amazing job if you took your time. Your screen looks a bit more curved and I think if you do try removal, it should be done with the budget to replace it if necessary but I think the Equalizer could make it possible to remove without breaking. It’s the best tool I’ve used and I’ve removed and installed a fair amount of glass for both Tesla and BMW. Good luck! Love watching your videos. They make me reminiscent of the many years I spent wrenching professionally.
Couple of months ago I had a vivid dream about me buying a Ferrari for only 6.500 EUR. I woke up sooooo happy although it turned out to be just a dream. Great feeling!
**** DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREEN **** It's original so any risk of breakage is too much. The rubber trims can be removed for painting. When done fit new trim strips with polyurethane mastic. Talk to rubber trim suppliers before you tear off the old stuff.
Hi Scott... I just want to send you a massive thumbs up. You will see this through. This is a massive project and you are literally into it up to the neck but you’re going to get through!! I can absolutely tell that it’s taken it’s toll but you’ll have a £400,000 car at the end. I just can’t get over how much stuff you’ve stripped off the car... how have you listed it all? Stored it? Big pat on the back Scott!! We’re all rooting for you!! 🚗 🚘
Keep it the original colour - with so little mileage on it, this car WILL be more valuable with it's original colour of paint still on it, even if it's a respray. At least it will be a bare metal respray as it will reveal any repairs needed to the bodywork. Love the videos, keep em coming!
You can probably reproduce the tire pressure stickers. Leave the windscreen in place. It's not worth it, just cover them up and mask around the trim if you want to repaint it. As for the colour, that's your choice in the end, but paint it the original white, and if you want another colour, wrap the car over the white. I think it would look great in any colour, but red or yellow would be my choice.
Original colour. White dude. You've come this far.... Don't spoil its beauty. It caught your eye in first place. Keep the vids coming. Really enjoy seeing it coming back to life.
Because it is the only white one in GB and it is an opportunity that does not often occur i would do i right the first time. Take the shield out (even if it brakes, i suggest a nice big hammer) , and paint the car the original color. Good luck, your making good progress! Nice project to watch!
I say mask up the info on the door jams, leave the car white and take the trim off from around the windshield and leave the windshield alone. (If it cracks well then.....it has to be replaced.)😁 Good work sir. Keep it up.👍🏾 One day I'll get mine. 🤔

Thanks for sparing us from any manscaped close up shots! Glad your wife likes it though hahah
That yellow looked pretty awesome
If you're looking for keep everything original I won't change the original colour either
You can probably reproduce the tire pressure stickers. Leave the windscreen in place. It's not worth it, just cover them up and mask around the trim if you want to repaint it. As for the colour, that's your choice in the end, but paint it the original white, and if you want another colour, wrap the car over the white. I think it would look great in any colour, but red or yellow would be my choice.
you are killing it ........ Good call on the bare metal repaint
Soon or later Scott will have his own ‘stepmother’ like Samcrac 🤣😁
Or a Leena.
WTF??
Leave the screen in safest bet..
Get that bare metal in primer fast!
I was thinking the same!!
It’s aluminum. Hence, it will not rust. Except for the chassis and brackets
Its alloy. Will be fine with an etch primer
WTF??
@@johnwh1039 gotcha
That blue when you said "purple". The first reference picture you showed. That would look BALLER with your blue interior!!!
Original colour. White dude. You've come this far.... Don't spoil its beauty. It caught your eye in first place. Keep the vids coming. Really enjoy seeing it coming back to life.
This strip show needed a cover charge! Hot damn! Definitely going to be worth the work! Keep up the great job.
I'm surprised Sam had time to take your call... he has been so busy doing "body work" with his 'step-mother'.
Now you have to put it back together so it works. That's the skillful bit.
Indeed
WTF??
Because it is the only white one in GB and it is an opportunity that does not often occur i would do i right the first time.
Take the shield out (even if it brakes, i suggest a nice big hammer) , and paint the car the original color.
Good luck, your making good progress!
Nice project to watch!
I say mask up the info on the door jams, leave the car white and take the trim off from around the windshield and leave the windshield alone. (If it cracks well then.....it has to be replaced.)😁
Good work sir. Keep it up.👍🏾
One day I'll get mine. 🤔
You should ask Iain Tyrell about removing the glass. He’s definitely an expert and a fellow RUclipsr
once you finish this project you can retire peacefully mate xD
I think that sticker can be new but windscreen needs to stay in her place
