Charlie and the Country Gentlemen were very instrumental in some of my families harmonies when performed bluegrass in the Northwest for over 30 years. My younger brother and I along with a close friend have started another bluegrass band and this is one of the songs we will be doing. The vocals even at Charlie's age are flawless the banjo, mandolin, upright bass and guitar shows amazing musicianship along with perfect harmony. Great job! This is what Bluegrass is all about.

Just a clarification here, guys, the Gents didn't write this song. It was written and first recorded by Canadian songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot. Many of his tunes are performed in bluegrass. He's a great lyricist and folk musician. Charlie's voice fits perfectly with Lightfoot's material as does Tony Rice's, too. It was sad to see Charlie so sick with cancer in this video. I miss his wonderful voice so much!
This definately a flatiron mandolin , looks and older one also but very well taken care of!! yes your right its a flat iron the best they make!! i seen one just like it one time has some very fine inlay work also!!

However, there will come a time, when The Lord returns man will no longer destroy our planet & the gifts God provides. Trees, air, animals & all things will have a mighty protector. There is NO mother nature but a loving almight God.
@manzrennug Don't forget...Charlie is very weak here. I doubt he lived much longer. The rest were not looking forward to a band without him. Sure...things were dim by this time..

Late in his career and his battle with illness Charlie Waller had to sit. What a wonderful sweet voice. He is missed.
I was soooooo super blessed in knowing Charlie personally, the last time I saw him was on July 24,2004 which was less than a month before his passing
Charlie Waller is the one who made me love bluegrass. I hope he's pickin and singin in Heaven and entertaining the angels.

I have never heard any voice better than Charlies'. He made you feel evey word he was singing. He himself was a gift to Bluegrass music.

Charlie waller was a true (genieus ) - - I followed the country gentlemen for over 25 years and their harmony was the best .....

We got to see Charlie not long before his death at a festival in Arkansas. He was in very poor health but could still sing great!

Bill Yates, who was with The Gentlemen for over 20 years, told me it was about a guy who was in love, who gone up to get away from it all.
