Whoooa Boy that was some mighty fine a pickin and a sangin 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻This is such a great song. I couldn’t believe Gordon Lightfoot wrote it. It sounds old timey. Amazing.
Agree with all the great comments on this video, and I want to add one more observation: the bass player is stellar. Love the simple walk downs at 1:07 and 2:25, and notice the rich, full bluegrass sound as they transition into the next chord. The bass is so on point… Awesome performance!
I climbed the Redwood Hill 'Twas on a rainy day To rise above the throng And talk with Mother Nature for a while She told me of her love For the children in her trust And of her grave concern For the likes of you and me and us Crying though she was She did speak these tender words The things that I am I could not change for any man I tried to comfort her Ah, but she would not be still And how the rain did fall As I found my way back down the Redwood Hill Crying though she was She did speak these tender words The things that I am I would not change for any man I tried to comfort her Ah, but she would not be still I'll not forget that day When Mother Nature cried on Redwood Hill I'll not forget that day When Mother Nature cried on Redwood Hill
My favorite thing in this entire video is when the song goes back to the minor chord after the instrumental breaks, and Jake goes to the major, immediately followed by the look on his face of.....oops....we're going to this part of the song now. It give the rest of us some reassurance that even musicians of this caliber still make a whoopsie once in a while! Awesome arrangement and thanks for all of the great videos!
A video idea... find used Banjos for sale on FB Marketplace... go see the banjo posing as an amateur, pick a little, ask if buddies can come over to give feedback with their instruments... deliver an impromptu jam session!
I can now rest in peace knowing that the spirit of bluegrass music will live
That's about as fine a set of musicians you'll ever find in one room. All at the top of the game, all enjoying each other's mastery.
….and to think they are not on your top 10 pop or C-rap (Country) music radio station.
That mandolin filler lick in the first verse is just perfection. Sierra hull is out of this world for sure.
Nick Dumas been hiding that voice! We need more of Nick on lead!
Gordon Lightfoot would approve!
Having been a Gordon Lightfoot fan since 1970 I am delighted to hear his music finding a new audience and being done so well. Kuddos!
Man Justins banjer rings!!!

I climbed the Redwood Hill
'Twas on a rainy day
To rise above the throng
And talk with Mother Nature for a while
She told me of her love
For the children in her trust
And of her grave concern
For the likes of you and me and us
Crying though she was
She did speak these tender words
The things that I am
I could not change for any man
I tried to comfort her
Ah, but she would not be still
And how the rain did fall
As I found my way back down the Redwood Hill
Crying though she was
She did speak these tender words
The things that I am
I would not change for any man
I tried to comfort her
Ah, but she would not be still
I'll not forget that day
When Mother Nature cried on Redwood Hill
I'll not forget that day
When Mother Nature cried on Redwood Hill

Wonderful song! I have always liked Gordon Lightfoot but was not familiar with this tune. An outstanding job by this group!

Very good rendering. How is Mr Barnett doing Russ? I've kept praying for him, but haven't had a update in awhile. Lack of social media for me.
He is continuing to get stronger every day Michael!
@@81crowe I don't know him personally, but I love his humble approach. God bless him. And also Patton Wages had a similar event.
