For the life of me, I'll never understand how someone could ever listen to this song and not like it. Today's "country" could never touch the beauty and passion captured in Bluegrass...
I have said this before and I am saying it again Charlie Waller is one of the greatest of the blue grass singers and players and the Band I will say the same about them. Great, great, great. The waltz of the angles is a favorite song of mine..
I love Charlie Waller!!! He and his Country Gentlemen were absolutely the best group of all time!!! Every time they would sing "Fox On the Run" I never wanted the song to end!!! Thank God we have recordings and videos of Charlie Waller!!! He was one in a million!!!
They are the only group that I know of that does four part harmony on Fox on the Run. Fox was a rock song from England first done by Manfred Mann. But Manfred Mann did three part harmony.
blue bird i have had the opportunity of meeting this incredible artist at Blistered Fingers Bluegrass Festival, he was very friendly and a true gentleman, he is one of the greats that will always be missed.Thank you Charlie for all of your incredible songs, God Bless
@@jrfallen1881 , Charlie Waller was my 1st cousin. All of our family loved him. His son Randy Waller has a beautiful voice also. Sure wish I could see him again.
I wish my husband could have heard this song before he passed Amen I loved him so much and I miss him dearly thanks for the song Ginny butler It is a blessing to my heart Thank you so much beautiful song
These guys were so great they were above most of the songs that were charted, they were absolutely great! They certainly were one of my favorite groups. They were super
I first saw the Country Gents at a club called "The Shamrock" in Georgetown in DC back in the late 60's. They were sort of the house band (50 cent cover charge at the door.) Doyle Lawson and Jimmy Goudreau were among the guys in the band at the time. But the real star was Charlie Waller. Followed them after and even hired them for a gig at a college in Kentucky in the mid 70's. Fast forward to 1994 and saw them once again at the Birchmere in Alexandria. Though Charlie was dealing with an illness at the time and had to sit while singing and playing, his voice was as powerful and clear as it was back in the day at the Shamrock. Sadly, he died a few weeks after that show. Regardless of how many songs that "charted" over his career the Country Gents was a seminal band in modern bluegrass and Charlie Waller was the best.
Awesome is what this is! The Osborne Brothers are my favorites but Charlie and the Gentlemen aint far behind to me when we lost Charlie it was the greatest lose for Bluegrass music ever what a voice.
They were considered 'bluegrass,' which is 'niche' music, much like jazz, or various genres of gospel. If you're fan, you know better. Charlie Waller, John Starling & John Duffey are artists who deserved far more acclaim than they will ever get on this mortal coil. It is said that bluegrass artists never get rich...unless you count awe & respect for their outstanding talent.
The one I was talking about is Jimmy Bowen in he purple coat. Thank you for trying to help me though, and the lead singer is the late, great Charlie Waller! He was one of the best and one of my favorites!
The waltz of the angels, I hear each time I hold you tightly, in these arms of mine 'Tis surely from heaven, this music I hear When your lips say "I love you," in waltz time my dear There must be a power, much higher than mine A writer of love songs, way up in the sky The maker of roses, of love sweet and true And the waltz of the angels, the moonlight and you Oh, hurry my darling, to my waiting arms I'll love you forever, and keep you from harm They say love is endless, our hearts have been kissed By the waltz of the angels, and far beyond this There must be a power, much higher than mine A writer of love songs, way up in the sky The maker of roses, of love sweet and true And the waltz of the angels, the moonlight and you
@robyfox2 No, that is Charlie Waller, whom for 50 years led one of the most innovative bluegrass groups of all time, The Country Gentlemen. He has passed on but his son, Randy Waller is carrying the tradition by continuing the group
Rest in Peace Charles Otis Waller cant believe 15 years today... I know you and my grandaddy are playing and singing together in heaven... I barely knew you but im happy to know you were one of the first to hold me as a baby... you are greatly missed..
His name is Jimmy Bowen. He played with Them in the 90's. They won an award for this arrangement. He also played with Randy Waller later on. He looks different now ,but still has a great voice.
I am sure this is one of the bands I heard live at the armory in Huntsville, AL, WAY back in the day when my parents and I served hot dogs at the food stand...our payment was just being there and being blessed by those awesome pickers and singers! Love this.
I just recently learned of this beautiful song after hearing friends we have with a bluegrass band. Love the melody and harmony. Good to find your post, Thanks.
One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite lead singers and groups. I wish I had remembered this song for my wedding. Typically, live audio creates a recording difficulty, so I wish the studio version were also on u tube. These skilled professionals maintain correct distance from mikes for balanced volume, but because of proximity effect considerations, the lead is based out while back up vocals are too sharp. Good to have video though...Thanks
This is so lovely, great singing and brilliant playing, I would like to dedicate this to My Friend Glyn, it's a Special Birthday and an he is an expert on Roses. Muriel xxx Thanks for posting jeffyjobluerass
My grandfather originally wrote this song for my grandma. My grandpa used to have a country western band and he had been playing this song in his set list for a while in Texas and New Mexico, when Dick Reynolds (the guy credited for writing it) saw him play it one night and stole the song from him and started claiming he and Jack Rhodes wrote it and gave it to great artists to cover and make money off of it. It's a beautiful song, no doubt. Just wish my grandpa was given the credit he deserved. He was an amazing musician and could play the hell out of a fiddle. Just felt like I needed to say that.
Which song charted? My grandparents were very close friends with Charlie and the numerous fluxing musicians who made up the rest of the "Gentlemen" for my entire life. I would play on their tour bus as a toddler at festivals!!!
Not one of my favorites but no one was better with the lead. Saw him in NE Pa. at a bluegrass festival shortly before he died.. I was just getting into bluegrass at the time.. He was already sitting instead of standing at his performances.. Just something genuine and pleasing in his voice..
can that message flashed on the screen be correct? it's hard to believe that the gent only charted one billboard recording during their long career. they were so good and with so many great members. i can think of at least three that i thought would have charted. charted songs or not, they were a great influential bluegrass band.
@jbash1970 That is Greg Corbet, from Troy, NC..last account I had of him , he was playing with The Circuit Riders, which may be disbanded now, not sure
For the life of me, I'll never understand how someone could ever listen to this song and not like it. Today's "country" could never touch the beauty and passion captured in Bluegrass...
So so true!!!!
You're right!!!!!!!!
PREACH IT BROTHER

Charlie is buried about 7 miles from me in maple wood cemetery beautiful stone at grave site
The Country Gentlemen are the Beatles of Bluegrass. Every note is perfect
Jimmy Bowens tenor gives me chills, great!!!
Best lead voice in bluegrass music, Mr. Charlie Waller
+Dano J. Maybe the best voice in all of country music and not just bluegrass.
I love Charlie Waller!!! He and his Country Gentlemen were absolutely the best group of all time!!! Every time they would sing "Fox On the Run" I never wanted the song to end!!! Thank God we have recordings and videos of Charlie Waller!!! He was one in a million!!!

Awesome voices👌⚘️⚘️⚘️⚘️🎸🎸🎸🎸
That's some amazing baritone singing by the banjo player. He creates some really interesting chords by moving his part around, if you listen closely.

Great song, it give you chill,
The waltz of the angels, I hear each time
I hold you tightly, in these arms of mine
'Tis surely from heaven, this music I hear
When your lips say "I love you," in waltz time my dear
There must be a power, much higher than mine
A writer of love songs, way up in the sky

And the waltz of the angels, the moonlight and you
Oh, hurry my darling, to my waiting arms
I'll love you forever, and keep you from harm
They say love is endless, our hearts have been kissed
By the waltz of the angels, and far beyond this
There must be a power, much higher than mine
A writer of love songs, way up in the sky
The maker of roses, of love sweet and true
And the waltz of the angels, the moonlight and you
