Automotive engineers and development processes get passed around from company to company nowadays. So most companies have similar reliability metrics and similar rates of recall. They aren't a lot of walled gardens like there used to be
I have owned my 2017 Passat as a new car for 5 years with 80k miles. Sold it just because I need a SUV. I have 0 issue with it, not a single problem at all. If everyone believe VW is a bad car, then I am the exceptional one, I guess. New Atlas looks great, and I trust VW for sure. Also, you buy a car not only based on the so called "quality" that everyone believe Toyota is the king (my friend's new Camry just had the first engine light at 2000 miles), but also the feeling you sit in. Purchase decision is very subjective, but the word out there about the bad quality should not be a concern, post with respect.
I have no idea why Americans think VWs are unreliable. Go to Europe and it’s VW group cars nearly exclusively which each 200-300k miles. Taxi firms love then, Eastern Europeans love them where road conditions are less than ideal as well. It’s myth that VW reliability is particularly poor, most of the rest of the world hold them in high regard, and if “dieselgate” is the only reason you wouldn’t buy one, that’s pretty pathetic.
I could not agree more. Too m any people have their heads up their asses. They are not only reliable they are good cars and drive well. Look, this is a midsize family SUV. Technically if you go Telluride, explorer, pilot , Grand highlander etc there is not really bad choice overall. But this Atlas I prefer over most of them
Right the Atlas in particular is known to be one of VWs worse vehicles. I had a co worker who had one of these things brand new and that car stayed in the shop every 3 months with recalls and problems.
People in Germany drive VW for reliability reasons. Especially models like the Passat if you drive a lot of kilometers every year. What I am reading here in the comments is the opposite so either people just hate or they base their judgement on clichés. Probably both😊
People in the U.S. have learned the hard way that you lease German and be out of it before the warranty is up. Unless you want to pay for it twice through repair costs.
Models we have in north america aren't the same with shoddy quality control in Europe it's okay but in north america it so much on-top of that parts are more expensive too. Get off your high horse.
I love volkswagen. Recently owned a Jetta, a Golf R. And now a Tiguan. All flawless. But i can not deny, the best SUV on the market right now is the Mazda CX90 and it isnt even close.
Test drove one of those Mazda CXs and I thought it felt horribly cramped like the walls were closing in on you and gave you a tunnel/claustrophobic feel while driving. Was not a fan at all.
One big reason to avoid this vehicle is the engine. It needs more displacement and a mild hybrid powertrain. The stress and strain on the powertrain components is too much, especially knowing how big this vehicle is.
Drove a salvaged ‘04 Passat for 5 years and currently drive a ‘21 Jetta and still haven’t came across any major issues. The only ones dealing with “reliability issues” are terrible drivers who don’t keep up with their scheduled maintenance
Coming from an owner of a 2022 SQ5 and a 2023 Telluride, I'll take the Telluride. Way more bang for the buck at the higher levels. We only have 7,300 miles on the Telly but so far its been a great vehicle for our family of 4. Underpinnings probably aren't as complex as the German brands but if it works it works. And less complexity equals easier and cheaper fixes if you ultimately need to.
Everyone saying VW isn’t reliable which is true. But what has KIA proved? There new rebrand just makes cool body styles. In terms of engineering, the cars are just as trash as they used to be…
Yeah I would never buy a Kia. They can't pull the wool over my eyes with a fancy redesign/marketing push. It's still a Kia. That's like a disposable car brand.
So we should base our purchase on lighted logo. Tail light and other cosmetic items. Back in 80s and 90s car reviews were about technology used in engine. Transmission suspension, driveline etc. Now. Look we got shiny light. Sad
If they could make a car which was packed full of features, I’d buy it for 100,000. Better then buying some luxury car with like half of Greg features.
