After owning Hondas, Mazdas us made junk the reliability of Toyota is legitimate. You don’t see the value until years 6-15 of ownership. Point 2- because of this reputation the resale value on Toyota is amazing…..
@@brianfru1025it’s such a good vehicle that it hasn’t had to be changed to appeal to the market - but it has been improved where necessary and is extremely reliable because of this.
The sales of the CR-V shows that people are going in to buy one without doing their research. Honda is overcharging for the amount of equipment the CR-V lacks. And the lack of features is obvious. It actually has less features than the last gen CR-V. And it should also be noted that the RAV4 does a lot of fleet as well and its possible the CR-V is #1 in retail sales. Possibly.
This was such a great and helpful video! Will you do one for the midsize class of SUVs? Also, been meaning to comment that I love the refreshed intro! Always enjoy hearing Mason's laugh! keep up the great videos guys!
Only reason we didn't buy one is because leg room in back wasn't as much as crv. But crv and Rav 4 are overpriced so we are going with new Pathfinder or Palisade instead. Better tech and less money for included amenities
I just can’t ignore the loud angry engine in the rav4, along with noisy interior, average interior quality, and mediocre sound system. I respect the rav4’s reliability, but those downsides are things I would notice every moment while driving.
Average interior quality is a big credit to RAV4. It is very cheap looking and cheaply made interior hence too much noise and harshness come to the cabin. I recently test drove a 24 Nissan rogue SL and I felt the interior of that car was far better than the most of recent Lexus models.
Brand reputation massively helps Toyota and Honda by a lot as of late. Nothing against them as far as reliability rep goes, but you certainly get much less car and bland materials in them for what you pay for - they are overpriced alongside dealership price hikes are what keep me away from them. Its hard to justify the price for what you get.
I’ll probably be picking up a Subaru Forester for use up here in Alaska when they finally release the hybrid model for this new generation. I’ll also be heavily checking out the Wilderness model for this new generation when they get around to releasing that.
Great video, I am shocked to see that the RAV4 almost hit half million sales. Can you guys do a best/worse compact cars/midsize cars?. I’m one of the weird ones that’s never going to buy an SUV as long as they sell the sedan.
The past decade has been the era of the small SUV. In the 90's the segment barely existed; there was RAV4 and CRV and that was it for 4 cylinder small SUV's. There weren't any competitors back then. During the 2008 financial crisis (and the few years that followed) the road was filled with cars that were purchased in the 90's and early 2000's, which were V8 pickup trucks, V8 and V6 sedans, and the occasional minivan, but mostly V8 and V6 sedans. People coming out of that crisis reasonably put practical purchases above all else, thus the era off the 4 cylinder crossover (and eventually the small SUV) began.
I’m baffled at #3, #4, and #5 being in the top sellers list. Aren’t consumers aware of the recalls, and issues with cvt, transmission, blown head gasket, etc just to name a few?
I’m leaning towards a crv one of my in-laws owns one and it was reasonably spacious for what it is I am also considering a forester as well not new so much for either one but similar age range if possible
RAV4 has N/A engine and traditional transmission. There is a reason why it’s more reliable and perceived that way if you’re keeping your car for more than five years. I wouldn’t want a turbo and cvt with anything when the factory warranty is up
And as yall were talking about the RAV4, it was 4 of them at 1 intersections 😂. It’s a RAV4 everywhere, like a disease. It’s the perfect all around vehicle and this was its best generation.
The US market apparently doesn't even know what a true compact-class vehicle is if these are considered compact vehicles. Hint: A Mazda CX-30, Honda HR-V & Corolla Cross are true compacts. The Mazda CX-3 & Yaris Cross would be considered true subcompacts.
Do the people buying the rav4 not drive outside of the city? The wind and road noise was awful compared to even the sportage. I can appreciate the basic, dated, tried and true interior of the rav4 but it has zero wow factor. I test drove one a couple weeks ago. I’ve only driven trucks so I don’t fully know this segment but it will be a future purchase for our family. Toyota seems to have gotten complacent with their name built on reliability and not refinement
Toyota’s tech and interior is five years old. Yes they’re adding a few things here and there but basically it’s a five year old vehicle. The Hyundai Tucson tech is amazing compared to the RAV4. Yes, I used to be a loyal Toyota person, but not anymore. They got greedy. I love my Hyundai.❤
Honda and Toyota are now cutting corners. Even if I were in the market for a non-luxury car I would not consider Honda/Toyota. And... they're extremely OVERPRICED.
Toyota created this segment and continues to dominate, as per usual. I respect them but I will admit, I'm not a fan of the Rav4. It's probably the tightest in terms of passenger space and cargo space after the CX5. However, the CX5 is at least super fun to drive and feels nicer in terms of driving experience and materials quality so you get something for that cramped interior. Meanwhile, the Rav4 has a lot of noise and that standard gas engine can get loud, and the lower trims just feel super cheap. It's also on the expensive side in the segment and the oldest while most of its competitors got full redesigns the last few years. I was just in a Rav4 uber in the back and, compared to my Forester, it felt super tight. The Rav4 is the most reliable in the segment by a good margin, the best in resale value, and has the most reliable hybrid system. I guess that's all it takes even if the overall driving experience and practicality isn't the best or just sucks.
Well you did keep saying reliable, and people prioritize reliability now. Oh, and fuel economy too, something the Toyota hybrid does better than any other engine.
@@TheMrJourneyer I mean I value it, but doesn't mean I'll get a car that sucks everywhere else or is bottom of it's class overall just for it. It's a factor for me, but not a be-all and end-all to the point I'l screw everything else just for it. I guess maybe Rav4 buyers fit that category because I test drove one before I got my Forester, and it felt super noisy, cramped in the back compared to competitors, super dated, and cheap compared to its competitors.
@ People choose it because of every competitor, RAV4 is just the “safe choice” reliability wise and that’s enough for people to overlook its deficiencies everywhere else. It’s a car that basically lives off brand reputation and reliability while being bottom of the pack everywhere else whether it’s interior space, comfort, driving dynamics, quietness, fit and finish on lower trims, etc. The CRV and rav4 just go back to back due to that, but the CRV is a far superior car. I went forester since I got a good deal and I saw it as a similar car to the CRV and Rav4.
I think the GMC Terrain will move up this year. With the new redesign, it's basically a slightly better looking Chevy Equinox. It's a big step up from the weird looking 2nd generation (2018 - 2024) model.
I don’t know why so many people bought the CRV. For the amount of features it doesn’t have, it’s expensive for the features it doesn’t have. Honestly, for a family, I have four choices that should be in the top four, from 4th to 1st, new equinox, then Toyota, Mazda CX-5, then Tucson. Even though the equinox is cheap and has so many features, the powertrain is meh. Toyota is alright but when adding all the features, it comes to around 43-44. Then Mazda is so close to Tucson but we are missing a few features. We need a touchscreen when using Mazdas infotainment, possibly a hybrid? Even though the space isn’t the best, the power is incredible. Almost as good as the Honda Pilot for power specs, haha! 😂 Features is also good! Love heated rear seats on quite a few trims. Finally, the first, is the Tucson. Why? The technology and the fancy. When turning on your blinker, it shows the camera and reminds me of the Tesla a little! Great review! ❤ Excited for the Sunday Showdowwwn! ❤😊

If you ad the sales of the 5 & 50, they are quietly the #4 seller in this class. Which is surprising to me.
I'm so glad I went Mazda CX5! My whole neighborhood everyone has a Rav 4 or a CRV...... especially the boomers 😂
I have a 2023 CX-5 Turbo Signature, pleasure to drive and just want to keep going past my destinations.
To me the Rav4 is living on brand rep more than anything else.
Many people that buy Rav4 know nothing about car, they just heard people say it’s reliable.
And you pay a premium for that reputation.
