The 283 ci V8 was a bored out 265 ci V8. 1957 was the first year it was offered in any Chevrolet car. The Rochester mechanical continuous fuel injection system version of the 283 ci engine produced 283 hp, one horsepower per cubic inch. The $550.00 option was the most advanced engine in America at the time and it made the Corvette the quickest production car in the world. That engine was offered in other Chevrolet body styles also. However, the Rochester fuel injection system was finicky and needed close attention to make it run correctly.
In 1957 Ford came out with a Paxton-Mcculloch supercharged 312 ci engine producing 300 HP in the T-Bird and the base model Custom body style.

With a VIN ending in 5969 indicates this a late model car.
A 4-speed transmission option would have been readily available. I believe 6336 units were produced.
A very beautiful restoration!

The interior of the fuel filler needs cleaning repainting?

Back up lights weren't a thing until the 70s and 80s.
