  • This 1957 Fuelie Corvette is all about the experience of driving, the connection to the machine through fuel and fire. How rare is a fuel injected 1957 Corvette? In Richard Huxley's C1 Corvette's case, it is 1 of 1. In his hands for the last 47 years, his Vette is truly 1 of 1200 if you do the math, or 1 of 200 when you really whittle it down, but hes made it his, and left it his. The ultimate example of a car that is used merely for its mechanical payoff, and the love of driving. To some, it appears rough, to others, it appears cherished.

    HOLEY SHIT! I KNOW THIS CAR!
    This was the corvette that made me get classic vettes! Growing up I had only ever seen 50s/60s vettes as restored and pampered trailer queens at car shows, and I never saw the point. Then one day about 12 years ago, I was sitting at the bottom of an exit ramp in rural CT near the airport, waiting to take a right. Just as the light turned green this exact ratty white vette with dog-dish hubcaps came bombing down the ramp, downshifted at the bottom of the ramp and rocketed across the street, nearly catching air on the crown of the road. Then he roared down the far road and was gone.
    The driver was clearly having a blast, and it made me realize what vettes could be, and what they should be. Light, nimble little sports cars with enough grunt to have some real fun. I even built a little diecast tribute to this car many years later. Mr Huxley, I salute you.

    Thank you for leaving the car the way you like it, and driving it. I have a 62 impala rag, that is similar condition and I drive it and enjoy it. True old school hot rodder attitude.

    This is wonderful! Planning to do the same with my '10 Challenger SRT8. I know it's not the fastest and not the newest nor that old but I've put 186k miles and love her to death!! I'm 24 but will hopefully own it forever cause I worked really hard to get one in my Country. It's the only SRT8 here and people (specially kids) love it.

    Awesome Corvette👍👍, appears to be a great guy too. There is a Red 1957 Fuelie not far from me, I see it usually at local car shows and it is Georgous. The very first Corvette I ever rode in was a '57 Corvette (not a fuellie) but certain a Rightous Car to cruise around town, or on the Highway! God I Love Corvette's, all years and models! To ME the Corvette is the Greatest American Sports Car, it was born just a handful of years after me.... #AmericanMuscle #BornInUSA #USA-1👍👍

    I loved the vice grips at the end. I had a old Chevy van with vice grips as an inside door handle and a screw driver as a ignition key. Good times as a young man!

    Love this owner's McGyvering, like the Vice Grips and the Vega steering wheel. lol I have to dispute his horsepower statement in that in 1957, with the Rochester Fuel Injection, it made 283 horsepower. The first time ever for one horsepower per cubic inch. I believe it was the 2-4 barrel setup that had 260 horsepower. Great video on a great car.

    • @wasabitheninja
      @wasabitheninja 5 лет назад

      The injected solid-lifter camshaft 283 was indeed rated at 283hp, but was the third US-built V-8 to reach 1hp per cube. The hydraulic-lifter 283 with injection was only rated at 250hp and was made in production numbers of something around 200, as stated. The dual 4bbl was rated at 270hp in '57.

    I couldn't agree more. I've had my 65 Buick Electra 225 just as how I got it, minus a few changes like a red top, headliner, & a steering wheel (old original one's plastic is all cracked, but it's in the trunk :) )

    This guy is my new best friend. Nothing like taking the top off your Corvette in the mountains when it's cold, jacket and gloves on, and just drive! If I ever take my 'vette on a road trip to Connecticut, I'm looking him up. I'd like to buy this thing and leave it just like it is.

    wish i could show my old boss this video he had 65 vette and he would brag how excellent condition it was he never used the wipers, it’s never been drivin past 40 mph etc it was nothing more than a garage queen, i would always say why have a car then? Never understood that.

      This mindset has always perplexed me as well. Why not buy some framed art or something? Or a sculpture. The whole idea of buying something that has a function, and purposely not using its function ever and that being the appeal is strange. Unless someone purely looks at everything they do as a means to make money later

    A classic is original only once. You could restore it and make it pristine but it's no longer original. This way you can drive it, which is what it's meant for. I'd never restore this car! Love it exactly the way it is!

    • @wasabitheninja
      @wasabitheninja 5 лет назад +1

      Counterpoint to the counterpoint... lazy is not driving the hell out of a car that was meant to be driven. Leaving a roadster in the garage and never driving it is the opposite of being a car guy. Who cares what it looks like... a car's looks don't change the sensation behind the wheel. But you do you.
