    I met with her briefly after her Kongsberg concert. She is the most gracious person you could meet and easy to talk with.
    When Siss stops singing ,no one coming after will quite fill the space.

    Every song Sussex sings fills me with emotion. I first heard her singing Auld Lang Syne and I still breathe deep when I think of it.

    Just one of the best ( if not the best ) female crossover sopranos in the world. No point trying to say her last name, you have to be from skandinavia for to manage. After 4 decades she still perform.

    She sang the intro to the movie Titanic. The humming part. Many think it's Celine Dion but it is Sissel.

    Sissel's surname is pronounced "Shooshaber". The "flute" is the Irish instrument called a "tin whistle".

      @@ianrobertson2282 Nope...you're wrong. There are no S-sounds in her last name. There are several video's on YT with Norwegians that pronounce her name correct. I've registered that foreigners ....specially native English speakers ....are unable to say a name correct even if they have the correct version at hand....

    • @ianrobertson2282
      @ianrobertson2282 11 месяцев назад

      @@Dan-fo9dk How would you express the ky and kj sounds in written English? I have heard Sissel herself explain how to pronounce her name.

    • @Dan-fo9dk
      @Dan-fo9dk 11 месяцев назад

      @@ianrobertson2282 Sissel last name is a combination of two common Norwegian words.....hence she has no unique competence on her side how the name shall be pronounced. For Norwegians it is straight forward as it is written. Her translation to what the name meant was to a degree wrong. If I remember correct she said that bø means hill ....while the correct is a field / a meadow. I guess she was thinking of the word bakke which means both ground and hill. A meadow can be on a hill and the meadow is the ground. So her translation could have been better.
      Trying to convey how sounds are pronounced in written form ....and for a different language ...specially for English speakers.....is pointless.
      Every letter or combination of them are different in English ....and it seems like English speakers are unaware of this fact. ....yeah ....there exist other languages than English..... Give a written Norwegian word or name to some German, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Arabic, Polish or Russian speaker ....and they will all get a quite good result when it comes to pronouncing. For English speakers....it's a nope..... It is rather annoying that everybody must adapt ......and explain .....and spoon feed these helpless English speakers ...who mostly know no other language....
      You have access to correct pronounciation on YT ....and still you can't make it....well ...then there isn't much I can do about it....
