All classic tracks. For me Highway Star embodies everything that was epic about Purple (MK2 especially). Also Space Truckin' is a classic track from Machine Head imo.

Fireball is my favourite one and it is on the list, so the first 'missed' song that comes to my mind is Fools - really great track and very underrated. The whole album was amazing actually. But it's absolutely impossible to choose only 10 songs, when Deep Purple is such a fantastic band.

Personally I love all DP songs and find very difficult to decide what is the best. But there is one thing I' m definitely sure: I can't stand David Coverdale. If he had been the only one singer of DP that would be ok, but not after Ian Gillan, the greatest rock singer together with Robert Plant!
All great indeed, however, Smoke on the Water will always remain their most recognized (and most requested) song of all. It has also introduced many a young aspiring guitarist to rock music. Therefore, deserving of the #1 slot. Good to see you feature Steve live on Perfect Strangers. My favorite contribution of his is Ted the Mechanic. It introduced his style to the Purple and takes it to another height!

The great thing about listening to music with my kids is that I often like songs for nostalgic reasons and they'll go straight for the ones they like best. They both love deep purple and will tell you that both of their fav songs by dp are the same: The Surprising, from Infinite.
Influencial and greatest are different things and putting the two together creates confusion. Top most influencial are 1- Smoke on the Water, 2- Highway Star, and 3- Child in Time, 4- Speed King Greatest is a lot more difficult to tell. Highly a matter of taste and feeling. I would put 1- Lazy, with No, no, no, The Mule and Fools in the top 10 but that is just me ;) Hush as nothing to do in neither.

Great recognition to the severely underrated Mark 3 songs! Burn at no. 2 is deserving though they should have put the cal jam concert clip instead. Mistreated is another underrated classic, should be higher, its easily one of deep purples most covered songs of all time.

I dont know i think more i listen to deep purple more my favourite tracks start to contain the less known songs from them. For example the album what i listen the most from the dp is fireball and i consider it to be one of their best albums.
And it consider one of thier greatest with In rock, Machine head and Burn

Influencial and greatest are different things and putting the two together creates confusion.
Top most influencial are 1- Smoke on the Water, 2- Highway Star, and 3- Child in Time, 4- Speed King
Greatest is a lot more difficult to tell. Highly a matter of taste and feeling. I would put 1- Lazy, with No, no, no, The Mule and Fools in the top 10 but that is just me ;)

Great recognition to the severely underrated Mark 3 songs! Burn at no. 2 is deserving though they should have put the cal jam concert clip instead. Mistreated is another underrated classic, should be higher, its easily one of deep purples most covered songs of all time.
