      The logical choice to replace Jon was Tony Carey, by far the better musician when compared with Don Airey.

    • @ASoundofThunderBand
      @ASoundofThunderBand 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@lilylaw1517 Tony himself will tell you he doesn't do that much prog rock any more and has some arthritis that interferes with his fast lead playing. But more importantly TC is not a sideman or just a keyboard player. He's been a lead vocalist and captain of his own ship since the early '80s. I don't think he'd want this job.

    • @lilylaw1517
      @lilylaw1517 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@ASoundofThunderBand I'm not taklking of the situation now but at the time of Jon's retirement. I'm fully aware of Tony's solo career having seen him live many times and when he works with Peter Maffay.

    • @ASoundofThunderBand
      @ASoundofThunderBand 7 месяцев назад

      @@lilylaw1517 Fair enough. TC was probably physically more up to shredding some lead organ solos back then, but on the other hand wasn't that around the time he had cancer? Anyway, TC is certainly a much better songwriter than Don, but I still don't see him actually wanting this job. Too much of a time commitment for a project where he would be creatively stifled.

    At the Plymouth Pavillions, they had no barriers and Gillan told the security guys to let us come right up to the stage as soon as Jon popped up behind the Hammond. It was the last leg of the tour, I was able to shake hands with Jon at the edge of the stage and when I left for a last drink at the bar, Don Airey was sitting there and we had a quick chat. It was a very memorable evening!

    In 2010 Deep Purple came to Armenia to give a concert for the first time. It was very special event because they're very famous in Armenia and there are thousands of fans who wished to see the them. During 2 weeks before the concert organizers told that there will be something special in the show. Don't know why, but I imagined that something like this might happen. Such a brilliant move to have Don Airey play around and have Jon Lord come out of thin air and play what I consider to be one of Jon Lord best contributions to the band. Damn, I wish he (Jon Lord) beats his health problems and do more guest visits like this! The band might be the grand fathers of Hardrock but I'd still prefer a heavy dose of grandpa over any of today's grand children :)

    Don added classic intro. It's great trick :) He inserted mistery and enigma into the rock show :)

    When I remember Jon I remember him like this - playing the growling B3ast together with his good friends, weaving classic, rock, film music etc into one big euvre that drives the fans nuts. Apart from his later classic compositions Perfect Strangers is one of my favourites, and the symbiosis between Don & Jon is perfect !

    Beautiful. i have always said aloud, you cannot go wrong with Deep Purple. our most memorable babysitter for us kids in the early 70's would bring his guitar & play Smoke... ya never saw more enthralled & best-behaved-kids as we!

    OMG... watching/ listening to this incredible video today, some 2 or 3 fays after attending to DP's show here in São Paulo, Brazil, I really understand the much Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Steve Morse really made the difference back in those fortunate days... now the band just seems to have lost that pulsation, heaviness, this uncompromising, unique sound... these guys should never have left us! No comparison with the current DP lineup, sorry

    Wow, there is nothing like that 'GGGRRROOWWWLL' that Jon Lord produced with the the B-3, through the Marshall amps.. amazing, unique sound... proves once again that having a classical background is a major advantage to becoming a proficient/great piano/KB player ...He is truly a KB icon

    To this day, I keep DP close to my heart. They were amazing❣️❣️❣️ every configuration was gorgeous timely and meant to be at the time. Gillan being back full time until today is a gift (to me❣️). Doubtless they influenced Seattle bands BIG TIME bc I hear ALL of them ALL over the place within DP’s music. So THERE 🤷‍♀️🤪🙏❣️
