OK - FINALLY - someone actually used the Lens guards and tested their durability - its good to see that they will at least protect the lens - they do mess up the image in some cases - but if you are going extreme with something - you probably dont care anyway. I REALLY wish others out there would talk about this and show it. These cameras are good - and I am very interested in getting one - but I have had terrible experiences with the lenses getting scratched and their horrible customer service getting it repaired - IDK - I might take the plunge.
Thanks for the test! I expected the premium lens guard to break right away due to the fact they're glass, and the standard ones to be vastly more durable since they're plastic but this is not at all how it played out. Really unexpected. Insta360 did really well with the design of the premium, I guess that's why they're almost a half sphere: it must increase the strength a lot (at the expense of some reflections) However, disappointed by the standard ones, they made them too thin it seems. But optically they're surprisingly good.
I used the standard lens guards that worked just fine on my field X4 on a tripod. The X4 on my helmet I mounted horizontal with an L bracket. I could see distortion in the video quality as I move my head back and forth fixed on a single object like they are not perfectly consistent in shape. The lens flare is really strong if viewing towards the sun on a clear summer day. Unlike road sports I believe, I will just run the helmet camera without guards to minimize that distortion and sun flare. I probably will try out a pair of the premium guards just to see.
For content creation, clicks and such. The $ he makes from drawing in viewers more than makes up for the cost to send it back under the care warranty and have it repaired. But of course you know this.
@@michaelvarney.I disagree. You drop a lens, which weighs nothing at head height, barely will get scratched. Now with the camera, it wil have a bigger impact and cause more damage and a more realistic situation
@@Mr.E.us.69 let's take longboarding use, or any sport. It's waaay more probably that the whole camera gets slammed or dropped and not just the lens dropping from your hands while changing it... still, I find "original" this method of crash testing the camera 😅 obviously for entratainment purpouses 😂
I have the X4 with premium lens guard and the glare isn’t as noticeable, however my issue is how much the premium lens guard attract lints causing horrible footage during low light recording. When I saw this same issue from other YT videos, I thought they were exaggerating and not cleaning their lens protector, until I encountered it. I find it best to remove the lens guard when recording in low light environment and be extra careful with the camera.
In the premium lens guards bundle they have included the lens cap. Does the cap fit the thicker lens guards or do you have to keep removing them to fit the cap. Imagine removing the lens guards to fit the cap and dropping the camera - no protection lol
I mean, if it falls once its over. No need to test it 1+ time. Scratch will be made. That is why i prefer the cheapest there is, because they will protect the camera from falling once.
Question about the x4 cheat sheet. The title says it’s for the x4 but the content paragraphs show x3. Considering purchasing, I just need some clarification. Thank you.
Hi. For a motorbike, would you recommend premium lenses? I suppose the image quality will be worse using lenses than without, right? Also, maybe if it's cold outside, the lenses could fog up.
@@RobHKok thanks. Anyway I already ordered it for my X4 as I guess it’s better to have this lens guard and also I don’t think insta360 care or the most expensive ones are worth it for normal use.
Horrible, I go back to the standards whenever I can......a of sunshine on the side of the lens and you have reflections in your image. Standards are better in that sense., but yes less strong.
Thanks for doing this! Got my X4 yesterday and I’m waiting for the silicone case and OEM silicone lens cap to come today. I wanted to get the X4 utility frame but I don’t do vlogs or need to attach things for now, so I just went with a silicone case. I also see a lens guard product that clips over and on top of the X4, I wonder if that’s any good too. But since that’s clips over the top of the X4, you won’t be able to put a cage or case on the body
I saw another review on youtube where they compare the standaard vs premium lensguards from Insta360 on quality in daylight and lowlight. The Premium ones where clearky more visible and attracted way more dust. Since I am not planning to crash an RC car to my X4, I think I am gonna keep the Standard Lensguards.
I am more interested in the quality of the footage with both lenses rather than if one protects more. Is their a noticeable difference between the two?
i have to say sometimes you dont need the crash those cameras mines happend in my backpack after schrasch your camera useless they say you have to send us and pay 120 dollars every time lens guard maybe helop if glassnot schrach the actualy the lens
The reason this video really hits hard (pun intended) is because people consumed with the QUALITY of video they'll produce despite the lens guards, but the real issue is what you are displaying here, the damage your camera can survive. I've had to replace the lens of my One RS 1inch and that was NOT FUN, and had I damaged the other side's lens, it would have been $500 to replace- but they don't' have protective lenses for it that can produce quality anything. It forced me to then go get this camera for fun activities. However, premium lenses create more glare from sun though, it can be REALY BAD results filming/photographing when sun is strong because of the bulbous design, so I just remove them when I'm in handheld control and put them back on in transit or when I put it on monopod/self stick with base-- which with my luck's been the only other times I damaged another camera lens (gusting winds blew the damn things down).
i can tell in my back pack schrached the lens ..you dont need crashes like this videos now they send it x4 with lens guard while to many peole make it those cameras useless i can tell x4 mde it cheap too while they send with those lens guards

Yes, but why would you damage the camera too if you just want to test the lenses? It really hurts to see it.

Does it produce glares in low light just like the sticky lens in x3?

@@FirmRoot maybe that's the reason why they made it easily changeable so you can remove it quickly in lowlight situations.
Great video, QUESTION: Did you plan on this review or did it happen on accident and you decided to take advantage of the situation? Cheers.
A test worth doing so u can see what you pay for 👌
What about using dive case vs premium lens guard or std lens guard? Will dive case offer better protection?
The dive case offers quite a bit of overall protection but traps in a lot of heat out of water.
In the premium lens guards bundle they have included the lens cap. Does the cap fit the thicker lens guards or do you have to keep removing them to fit the cap. Imagine removing the lens guards to fit the cap and dropping the camera - no protection lol
I have both and can say that both standard and premium fit in the lens cap. Although it's tighter with premium one.

Its almost the same as the one for x3, differences are settings for different scenarios 😊
Do the lens fill up with water like the standard lens
both lenses will full up, there´s small wholes in them to provide airflow and minimize the risk of fogging

There are a lot of videos on that, and the premium seem to be slightly worse... but if they are sturdier, then they make sense!
Hi do you have any coupon codes for free items when you buy an insta360 x4? I’ve never owned one and you’ve convinced me I need one. 😉
Did the lens get damaged under the broken premium lens protector?
Only when it cracked on 9th attempt

very painful to watch this but your son was so happy looking at your RC car trying to crash that x4 lol
mahalos for doing the test, just got an extra set, just in case.
So what happens if you have the lens guard on and you drop it into the pool or the ocean?
It will slowly decent to the bottom😅
@@RobHK how will it affect the lenses? Damage? Or only require a mild rinse and wiping.
Did the screen get damaged on that testing ?
Answer is in the video 👌🫡
Did you use screen protector?
No
Why does your x4 look different then normal? Theres no ridges on the back and the sides have no texture on them, is it a knock off or something?
Beta
Do you think the standard lens guard will take a hit from an Airsoft BB or Paintball?
I can’t see that being a problem. Definitely not as hard as a rock and it splatts on impact

Mais pourquoi abîmer une si belle caméra ? :(

Is this a sponsored video?
Naah
I guess a drop-to-the-ground test is more relevant than hitting the camera on the floor with something. Anyway, thanks very much for your sharing.

Why do they call this action cams when the lens are fragile. I hope gopro will come out for a real 360 action cam.
Ouch!
