While I was watching "The Shining," my 6-year-old daughter, who was just playing with toys and listening to the sound of the movie next to me, fell in love with this song. Since then, she has been asking me, ``Mom, search for the Shining's Midnight song on RUclips!'' This is a really nice song. (I'm not an English speaker, so please excuse me if I write incorrect English)
Beautiful memories with more memories in the making. Long after you're gone your daughter will think of the memories Midnight, the stars and YOU. May she have as many sweet memories at 81 as I have of Mom and Papa with Alice Fays rendition of You'll Never Know Just How Much I Miss You. The version from the film Hellow Frisco Hello. Incidentally I fell in love with this song, the singer and the Ray Noble Orchestra while visiting are old gone but not forgotten TOWER RECORDS store.

I was in NYC in 2018 and saw Vince Giordano live. It was nothing short of spectacular. I got to speak with Vince after the show; I just couldn't find the words to tell him how perfect, how wonderful his music was!

Beautiful! Who decided that music shouldn't sound like this anymore? Who decided that we shouldn't dress like this anymore? I want the roaring twenties experience
I was taking care of an old friend with Alzheimer's for a few months. A couple of decades earlier, she was a friend of mine who was an intelligent and seemingly, very Christian woman, but, by now, had no short-term memory. As a matter of fact, she made a goldfish seem like Rain Man. You'd think this might be hard to deal with, but I found ways to entertain her for hours by playing the same songs she loved, many times over, like "Dancing Cheek to Cheek", each time seeming like a new experience for her that might have taken her back to a more meaningful time. Unfortunately for her, she kept on thinking her house she lived in for over 50 years was MY house, and, if I didn't watch her, she'd be out the door looking for the that non-existent house. Since she had no short - term memory, I felt that, if I didn't stop her, she MIGHT have ended up in the Pacific, for she was ALWAYS heading West when she got out the door. Anyway, because she kept on thinking her house my house, taking the "mi casa, su casa" to an extreme, I couldn't help but think of that scene in the movie, "The Shining", where the Jack Nicholson character was told by the character, Grady, that he was ALWAYS the caretaker, something the Nicholson character had no memory of. Because of that, I'd think of this song played at the very end of "The Shining", and I'd play it for my old friend. She loved it, and I'd play it over and over for her. As the song played, if she wasn't saying, "I'm thinking about this house", she'd ask me about MY house, which, again, was hers, and, I'd say with a with a British accent as I impersonated the Grady character from "The Shining", "You're the caretaker of this house, Miss Potter. You've ALWAYS been the caretaker, if I may be so bold." When I asked her where she thought her "REAL" house was, she would always point West. Believe it or not, there was a graveyard just some yards WEST of her house, and, she'd point to it. Looking back on it all, I'm thinking she might have been right... all that time.
Beautiful rendition. From a time when music and lyrics were pleasant to listen to. Modern music, with its AI generated patterns and vocoders, turning a screaming banshee into a singer - falls flat. This song is a thing of beauty. All of these musicians done a grand job - contributing to some light in the world. Thanks.
I think we all have the same heart for this song. I too fell in love with it the first time I heard it on the shining. It doesn’t matter how old it is, it has a magical rhythm about it. This is an awesome version of it. Vince has the perfect voice for this song. Thank you so much for posting.
Can't believe it took me this long to find this cover, but hey. And in case Richard, Vince or any of the Nighthawks finds this comment, I wanted to let all of you know that you did AMAZINGLY with this cover, you are all really talented!
You're version was special as well and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you Michael. Vince was kind enough to give us a rendition in New York 10 years ago of this beautiful song. I think they copied your piano player's solo in this one a tad ;)

Became an Al Bowlly fan with this song from the Shining.
Me too.
Ahhahaa what a coincidence, me too.
It’s beyond Al Bowlly....the composer and his band
im a bitch because i discovered al bowlly from everywhere at the end of time

Such a romantic and beautiful song they don't make music like this anymore.

So this is what it would sound like to be in the same room as the actual 30s recordings, I love it!
Fun fact. People could see in colour back then too!
i wonder if they covered other 30s music as well, i don't really like how the old recordings sounded
That's for sure 😊
That guy at the back with the guitar is having a blast playing this. His smile and overall positive vibe is giving me life!
That was actually one of the first things I noticed too! The second one was the girl playing the violin ... ;-)

Old songs appropriate to the film .just like rock, roll songs in Christine. These songs never fade out of fashion.
