When I rewatched the movie again recently I never acknowledge how much the mom is not around Damien, so her abortion comment later on makes no sense. I don’t remember if she had a job in the movie but I remember her being home a lot and the nanny was always taking care of Damien. Great review.

Jason, I liked your comments concerning how much (actually how little) focus there is on Damien in the film. I think this was intentional as his true character depends on the projections people in the film put on him. Thorn is the most important as he has to go from loving (adoptive) father to child killer. The question in the film is what does it take to turn a rational and decent person into a murderer. The answer: religion. Regarding the 666 on the thigh of Father Brennan, he was a Satanist. He was involved in the murder and substitution of Thorn's child for Damien. He eventually repented and sought forgiveness. That's why he went to warn Thorn.
Fun Fact:The child actors in the first two films(Harvey Stephens and Jonathan Scott-Taylor)were naturally strawberry blond and in Taylor`s case he`d actually played Jesus in a school play not long before getting cast as Damien ironically enough.The crew and cast said that Stephens in particular was irritable as fuck from the dyeing process and it made him extremely uncooperative and aggressive on set!Also, the shots of the animals freaking out in the zoo, that shit was not fake!
Good stuff the Omen 1-III -Final Revelation. Sam Neil creeped me out. I do maybe disagree about horror in the 80's losing ground. Ive always attributed it to Psycho & Halloween being big successes on small budgets. Add drive in craze followed by exploitation era of ultra cheap movies with international distribution for VCR markets. Lets not forget the 70's were the era of great director's films all before Hollywood became corporate and to me the 80's slasher genre was just a shock based money grab. There were good horror movies in those years just the volume of "cheap slashers"was much higher and anytime volume jumps quality tends to drop. IMO Siskel & Ebert were the voices and faces of horror bashing as Chainsaw 1, Friday the 13th 1, Nightmare on Elm Street 1, Halloween 1, were all good horror movies that birthed many lesser knockoffs that sold tickets, videotapes, and created legends. Smart horror just became less in vogue until we forgot what it looked like. Hannibal Lecter, Christine, IT, Pet Sematary, all were horror from books which also came to be in the 80's. Please share your thoughts and opinions if Im right or wrong. To be slasher was born in the early eighties but it was just another form of horror compared to The Omen and Exorcist.

I think it was a good move to have Damien not say much, because once he grows up, we know the deal, & the audience doesn't need him to be a mystery, since the tempo & anticipation is ratcheting up in the events & kills reach the fina conflict, where Jesus does show up, never before nor since shown in a movie.
