The answer to why almost none of the cars sound accurate from a sound designer's perspective - car guys relate the sounds to the car, the general audience relates the sound to the character. If you have 2 distinct characters revving their engines in a race, you need to be able to tell them apart and a lot of engine sounds just don't stand out. Brian's sound ended up being the skyline engine, so you sometimes hear it when you're not supposed to
Still love the fact Mitsubishi 3000GT was featured in the Prelude cut. Even if considering a cut car before production. I would have that in heart beat because of the rarity.
My estimated guess when Brian bought the R34 skyline it was roughly $46.5 Thousand they knew when the older gentleman was selling the car it was exotic but if it were much more well conditioned it could've went more higher possibly in the realm of $60k or above but that's my theory on how much he would've spent
Around 03 an r34 gtr was around $120000 aud (I remember a local import dealer we used to go to all the time got 2 in around that time and sold them for that much)
You could get an R34 GTT here in Ireland for around 3/4 grand back in the late naughties, early 2010's. I'm sure you could get a GTR for under 10 grand in the UK. I knew a lad who was selling his S14 Silvia asking price €1500.
The spacing of the cars and people at the finish line of the second race always bothered me bc it was reduced down to the width of only one car which makes it really stupid and dangerous to park & stand there as two guys are barreling towards you at full throttle trying to squeeze between you and another lost soul.
3000gt vr4 aka awd exists. Even the dodge stealth had an awd edition (the one with twin turbos) In 2fast2furious Brian did a 4 man race where everyone put in "35 large" aka 3,500 if im not mistaken. Thats a net profit 10,500 on top of his own 3500 he put in the pot. Do a few races and you could easily get the money for a r34 skyline, if you find one for sale. I think the point of that r34 was that it was beat up and trashed. Thus the cheaper price. You can find 2004/2005 sti's in great condition still over 20 grand but find that one thrashed beat up one and pay less than 10k for it.
When this mini movie was made the r34 was still in production, it only came out in 1998 and the forst Fast and Furious film came out in 99, the prelude takes place right afterwards. That bit with the motorbikes is a middle finger to that film Torque. F&F on bikes. As they made a big deal about bikes being faster than modified cars.
Totally out of context but when I first bought my car the exterior and a lot of near engine parts were total shit - the car was a wreck besides the engine, it had a lot of soul, I gave life to a car that was once forgotten and I've fallen in love with it.. a lot of money were thrown on parts also but yeah, she's like double the price for what I bought her.

How many times do you see the lead actor in a car movie driving a hero car that might be to expensive for their character to afford in real life
My theory is that if the car it self wasn't damaged and impounded by cops, Brian would have kept the same c west body kit for the R34, all he had to do was convert the car from house of kolor and get rid of the vinyls to Bayside blue and reuse the car from 2f2f to fast 4, I think by when the fast & furious timeline for fast 5 comes around he would have sold it by then in exchange for the R35.

Brian finding a beat down r34 in a used car dealership in 2003 is the most unrealistic thing in the entire franchise
Edit: seems like some of guys didn’t get the joke🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
And having an Evo 7 was straight up impossible XD dispense of disbelief is a powerful thing and essential to these movies
@@TheRacingJoker the evo7 has an interesting story, im sure your familiar with it.
They couldn't get actual evo parts because nobody believed they actually had one, so the tail lights notably were for the base Lancer and the shop had to do some body work to close the gap in the rear quarter. And that's why the evo looks like it has aftermarket box flairs from behind.
Idk launching cars out of an airplane to have it tumble down a mountain and still drivable is unbelievable. Also not to mention the 50 mile airplane runway.

What's more unrealistic than the R34 in the short, is the police catching those "Busa's"

I just realized Minka Kelly is the girl he sees at the dinner and who later picks him up with Eclipse
I worked at Motorex and met Paul Walker for a second in the warehouse. He was there picking up his R34 or Checking up import status. It’s been a while so don’t recall which. I do recall dropping off his white R34 to his Huntington Beach house 2 blocks from the beach.
the only white one I remember was toshi car? that was car no. 2
craigs was no.5 pauls was no. 9 his was white originally but got repainted bayside blue but unpainted Toshi is the only one that is all original as far as I know.
The eclipse that picks up Brian was arrested by the police because of helping a fugitive, thus is why the police had one ready for Brian or Roman.
Never thought of it like that but how would they know that she picked him up
@@xoxxxooxx they could of interviewed everyone in the motel where his car was being checked by the police and then interviewed the woman with the eclipse and then used track my phone app because you know Brian and the girl traded numbers to find Brian on Google maps n that's how Monica knew he was going to be at the race in miami

I swear this coulda been a whole movie in itself fr nd wouldve been hella good too just a movie about brian on the run and trading up from different tuner cars getting his cash leading up to the events of the second movie
I think it was implied that he used the race winnings. (I’m sure in “real life” he could’ve taken out his savings knowing he’s gonna be wanted at the end of FF1) so I guess winnings and savings? But what I really want to know is where he got enough money to work on the car let alone find a place to let him work on it with tools and all lol

Back in 2000 I had a friend in Tampa Florida that went to Motorex and got a V Spec 2 if I remember right. Legally registered. At that time people knew what that was. At the performance shop is a Gen 1 NSX alll motor about 600 hp Mugen engine. I had the 500hp SR20 powered Miata
I've seen both cars, may or may not have seen the miata at some point idk.
Brian's sound ended up being the skyline engine, so you sometimes hear it when you're not supposed to
thats still stupid though
@@Gelato41_ by that logic 90% of all sound in movies is stupid. Because guess what, you're not hearing what's on screen
I still like the prelude to this day seeing that skyline driving around.
Around 03 an r34 gtr was around $120000 aud (I remember a local import dealer we used to go to all the time got 2 in around that time and sold them for that much)
If you look closely.. You see the paint booth owner hand Brian his money back as a good will gesture.
The prelude is great! I love they gave us a transition, and more movies should do this.
It’s a fun extra feature, they can’t definitely afford to do it lol. It’s like a long running after credits scene

Yeah, and people try to imitate that irl too
3000gt vr4 aka awd exists. Even the dodge stealth had an awd edition (the one with twin turbos)
In 2fast2furious Brian did a 4 man race where everyone put in "35 large" aka 3,500 if im not mistaken.
R/T?
When this mini movie was made the r34 was still in production, it only came out in 1998 and the forst Fast and Furious film came out in 99, the prelude takes place right afterwards.
Are you telling me this kid had a basically brand new gtr...... beater? That's like six months from now the new twin turbo Nissan Z starts showing up clapped out in desert car lots lol.
@@DrewLSsix you are severely confused. 2 fast 2 furious came out in 2003. Leaving your whole comment null and void. Went and bought another the next day.
Besides the "real life" time of things, the fast movies dont talk about dates. Therefore dates don't apply in the real life sense.
I remember the special edition fast and furious dvd which included the teaser about how brain got his gtr, it also came with two movie ticket vouchers to see 2fast2furious in theaters. I know because my cousin gave my other cousin the vouchers and he took me to go see it. This idea of 98 and 99 is wrong
35 large is $35,000 not $3,500
The first gen Hayabusas are pretty sweet tho.
That first run has a very “born 2 Race” vibe
The prelude was filmed after 2f2f. The skyline was a leftover and was covered in a paint that could be washed off.
Also they were probably careful to not show the license plates cuz the whole thing was filmed in California
I think I'm the only one that watched it disappointed there was never a turbocharged Prelude in it?

Where was Brian living? He was staying at Harry's during the first movie. I guess that was his undercover crib?
Hypothesis: Brian got the Skyline for stupid cheap because he told the lot owner that the car was illegal and that he was a cop and he could have the place shut down over it.
No way... brian would accidently leak that
The only way to get it for cheap would be impound lot/pretend he raced and won it
That bit with the motorbikes is a middle finger to that film Torque. F&F on bikes. As they made a big deal about bikes being faster than modified cars.
Can you commentate on the Herbie movies? Maybe fully loaded? Your commentary is very entertaining and that is kinda a forgotten car movie.
This looks awfully a lot like NFS MW cutscenes
NFS Underground 2
I always think this means an actual turbo Honda prelude lol
Totally out of context but when I first bought my car the exterior and a lot of near engine parts were total shit - the car was a wreck besides the engine, it had a lot of soul, I gave life to a car that was once forgotten and I've fallen in love with it.. a lot of money were thrown on parts also but yeah, she's like double the price for what I bought her.
But where is the Prelude that a lot of us were hoping to see ?
Funny you mention Houston. Born and raised in between there and Galveston. Ran around in an old Fox Body not long after these movies came out. Everyone was so preoccupied with chrome and lights that rarely I'd find someone on the street that wasn't stock with a muffler cut lol.
I feel that this short film highlights the era sort of change slightly from late 90s-early 00s into the mid 00s, style of things were a little more extravagant compared to a couple years before
The lady in the Prelude was gorgeous and mysterious. It's a shame she wasn't back in 2F2F.

On the house topic, remember he was undercover so his entire lifestyle in the first movie was a front to gain access to Dom and his crew.
It doesnt have a GTR badge when he bought it though. So was it a base model GTT that he transitioned into a GTR? That would explain why he touched the badge like you mentioned.
