    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  3 года назад +2

      I don’t know your exact system, but generally during the flush part you leave the plug off. Fluid is supposed to come out during the flush. Once the lines and cylinders are clear of most of the air, then the final part is fill the reservoir to the max fill. The whole process is very similar to bleeding brakes.

    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  3 года назад +1

      Try PB plaster and an impact screwdriver, but the chances are the fill screw will be damaged. Heat can sometimes work, but there should be a rubber gasket. So if you do use heat you’ll want to replace the screw and gasket.

    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  2 года назад

      Yes, that hydraulic system was actually from a another boat of the same year. Before it was just a manual trim tilt system. I had to wire everything from scratch from relays and fuses.
      It’s funny you mention lower gear unit. My next video is on lower gear unit maintenance. I typically use 80w-90 gear oil and change it once a year unless your noticing water getting into it.

    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  2 года назад

      I’d start with checking/adding fluid. If that doesn’t work you may have a problem with your pump, but I’d start with the oil because it’s cheaper.

    It looks like you have an orange strap around the lower end while you have the engine up. Is that for extra safety? What do you strap it to?

    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  Год назад +1

      I only did that to remove the pin to the center hydraulic. It was attached to a beam on the exterior over hang of the house. It allowed me to raise and lower the motor without a second hand and get fine adjustments to reinsert the pin. If you are not replacing seals you don’t need to remove the pin or detach the hydraulic from the motor mount the standard safety catch on the motor is all you need. When you have to remove the pin, the motor has to raise past the safety catch. I just didn’t want it slamming back down on the safety catch when the pin get removed. When you are just checking and refilling fluid the motor needs to raise and lower freely.

      Yes, it’s possible the system is not holding pressure. It’s also possible that your pump is trying to pump, but not actually working.

    If the caps are corroded to no end what’s the best way to remove them. Holes on the caps are shallow and brittle when I use that specific tool

    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  2 года назад

      Well, I would start with a wire brush and good soaking of PB Blaster, let it sit for a while then try again with the tool. If the holes are stripped you could try drilling 3 new holes for the pins of the tool or even possibly hitting it counterclockwise with punch and hammer. Either way you will most likely destroy the old caps and seals. So prepare for that...

    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  2 года назад

      Hmm, seems to be an electrical issue rather than a pump or hydraulic issue. I’d start with checking relays and fuses, then move on to the switch to make sure a connection isn’t sticking after the button is released. You could try jumping the switch to see if it stops when the jump wire is disconnected. If it does then you know it’s the switch. I also know some units have a max stop switch that shuts the pump off when it reaches maximum up or down tilt. Possibly that lever is broken or the wiring is corroded. Sorry I can’t be more help. I am by no means an electrical wizard, either way I’d start with the easiest and move to the harder eliminating one thing at a time.

    • @ProjectComplete
      @ProjectComplete  2 года назад

      Are you referring to mine or yours? If we were talking about mine. It could be a couple of different things. The portion of the engine moving up and down was edited in fast forward. Which can make things look a like jumpy. Also the trim hydraulics move faster than the tilt hydraulics. So you’ll see it’s slow to move and then much faster once the tilt hydraulic kicks in. The trim hydraulics move slowly for fine tune while boating and the tilt hydraulic moves fast to raise the motor. Kind of like a second gear on a car. But really in person it wasn’t jumpy.

      Can you manually raise and lower the motor. If not the pistons may be seized and/or the rebuild/gaskets were done wrong. If you can manually raise and lower. The pistons aren’t seized and the hinge point may be. I’d try disconnecting the piston from the motor and see if they move. If the do and your motor hinge point is not seized. Your pump may be acting up and not providing enough power to get the motors weight up and down. I’d start with check oil and going from the top of this message through the rest.
