  • STK Alpha Tracker Survival Knife Field Testing my prototype! All upgrade issues for improvements listed below. Overall my Alpha Tracker performed well however I know it needs improvements and those will be addressed focused on my next subsequent build.
    Improvements to be addressed:
    1. Better heat treatment! I can do another differential heat treatment of course but I've got to make sure heat treatment is solid before one of my Alpha Trackers go's out. This 9260 steel is not as forgiving or I didn't nail the heat treat but the 5160 that I've used before heat treated solid its just finding the steel width I need of 2-1/2" I believe 1075 would shine with this big of blade at 1.2lbs.
    2. 9260 seems like softer steel to me so I'm going to use 1075 New Jersey steel baron for my next two builds.
    3. Going to up sweep the lower arched section slightly more on the blade profile, I'll make a new template.
    4. Going to do more aggressive saw teeth on the spine for notching
    5. Needs slightly wider handle tang at 1-1/8" wide.

All subsequent STK Alpha Tracker Survival Knife builds will be made with American made high carbon 1075 alloy steel, sand blasted then coated with silica ceramic black oxide finish.

That's a great choice for steel. Nice and strong. You won't have to sharpen it all weekend 👍🏻💯⚓🇺🇲🇺🇲

It is, I wasn't totally happy with the secondary cutting edge performance....I think 1075 build will perform better. Edge retention went to shit, didn't hold long enough wasn't bad but I strive for perfection. I can do better, they got to be better to pass or I won't let it go out.

I got you down for a Alpha Tracker in 1075 build. That steel will heat treat like I want also doing several design fixes listed above. Buyers get priority service I work on their knife everyday possible until completed. Thanks for your confidence, it will be built with attention to detail.

Beast knife Snow Man. It's going to be unstoppable when you work out the heat treat. O1 tool steel, maybe 1075? What ever steel you decide on will be awesome. Thanks for sharing. Keep on rock'n. You and family stay safe 👍🏻💯💪🏻⚓🇺🇲🇺🇲
