    And one more thing - you can play E chord also as [0x645x] with exactly the same right hand pattern and incorporate melody notes on 4th fret of the 1st string and 7th fret of the 2nd string. Both versions was used in the song and are perfectly legitimate.

    Thank you thank you thank you for this tutorial! I played it with a capo on the second fret but played it in a way to make it sound like the way you played it without the capo.

    Thank you, this is a wonderful lesson!
    I'm not so familiar with finger picking styles and using my left thumb for the bass notes was a struggle at first as well, but thanks to this tutorial (as I really want to learn this song) it's starting to come more naturally. I've checked some other videos of yours and it seems I'll have you to thank for a lot of progress in my guitar playing, so thank you!

  • @johngibson9463

    The key to your playing is the thumb being like a metronome, never ceasing. It's the Travis picking issue again, you can either do it or you can't.

    Hi Pavel, first I will congratulate for your good tutorial. Can I make some suggestions?
    1.) It would be easyer to learn, if some passages would be played a little bit SLOWER.
    2.) why don't you accompany certain passages singing for a longer time? If you prefer
    not to sing, you can sing talking, but it helps. Thank you.

  • @dadduorp
    @dadduorp 3 года назад +1

    You must have large hands as I can’t quite wrap my thumb around the 2nd fret (E string) to play the F# root. I have an Epiphone EJ-160E but thinking of buying an acoustic with a smaller nut width instead.

    • @johngibson9463
      @johngibson9463 3 года назад +1

      Same here - I have to barre the chord at the second fret, momentarily lifting it off to play the 'variation' open top E note.

    Hi Pavel,
    I've been a Mark Knopfler fan since 1978, when Sultans of Swing came out. Obviously, I've not followed him as closely as you have!!
    QUESTION: on your MK_SONGBOOK page, is there any TABS written? Also, you must have heard NECK & NECK with Chet Atkins...?
    I have a friend who has met Chet several times in the 90's before his untimely death. A real LEGEND...!
    Best regards,
    Dennis Wilson

    Сейчас, кстати, прочитал твою статейку в жж на счет музыки в компьютерных играх - "взгляд зануды-старпёра".
    Почему я не удивлен, что и игровой и музыкальный вкус отменный (себя не похвалишь, никто не похвалит, ха-ха, ну тут заодно и еще другого). Я даже гонялся по разным странам и встречался с композиторами к играм, например, с Фрэком Клепаки (Dune, Command & Command & Conquer), Джошем Рэнделлом aka Robotkid (System Shock, Thief), Александром Брэнденом и Михилем ван дэн Босом (Deus Ex, Age of Wonders и так далее, это боги трекерной музыки, с которыми вот уже 20 лет общаемся), да и со многими камрадами по Демосцене... Хотя ладно, не буду перечислять, я тут не ради боастинга. В общем-то тоже не играл почти как 10 лет, а тут стримить начал, да и новые игры нередко сейчас выбираю чисто по саундртекам. Начал опять поигрывать, да и стримить заодно, в основном в любимейшие шедевры типа Балдура и Плейнскейпа... Ну и без стримов музыки Марка и Dire Straits никуда, конечно ;) ruclips.net/video/Z0fTfR5bTaI/видео.html - вот рарные первые записи Dire Straits застримил месяцы 2 назад, кстати. Хотя что-то мне подсказывает, что ты их слышал. Тоже тот еще коллекционер и знаток, похоже... На счет Героев II-III полностью согласен, шедевр. Как игры, так и отдельно музыка. В IV, кстати, тоже великолепный ОСТ, но вот игра сама не удалась, на мой взгляд. По крайней мере это уже не те любимые Герои, что мы знали. Хотя есть некий "холивар", но на самом деле никакого "холивара" нет, 3 обективно лучшие (если отбросить субъективность человеческих мнений, ну а тут факты от perfect immortal machine xD). Так что я тот еще олдскульный зануда-старпер.
    Там в конце, правда, можно покритиковать "Поп / Кантри / Всё подряд", - не все подряд, а там почти чистый New Wave и синтипоп, который сейчас возрождается и очень сильно в тренде: NewRetroWave, DreamWave, vaporwave, все такое (делал даже стрим с лучшим за 10 последних лет - ruclips.net/video/9eZ19pnWETo/видео.html)... Ну ладно, если хочешь, это можно будет обсудить как-нибудь. В целом хорошая статья, прочитал с большим удовольствием.

    • @PavelFomenkov
      @PavelFomenkov  8 лет назад

      Ухты! Да, это лучше конечно обсудить в другому месте, а не в каментах на ютюбе. Здорово встретить активного ценителя хорошей игровой музыки!

    •  8 лет назад

      На самом деле мы уже как-то общались в прошлом в группах по Марку и Dire Straits ;)
      Я тебе сейчас позвоню, если ты не против и не слишком поздно.

    How are you playing that f-sharp minor with 7th on top and added 11th?!?!? I cant even get my hand to hold all those strings down

    • @PavelFomenkov
      @PavelFomenkov  2 года назад

      That's only possible with the thumb hitting the bass note. So the chord is [2x442x]. Bass is with the thumb, then ring finger, little finger, and index. The 5th string is muted. If you can't play bass note with the thumb, this chord is ridiculously hard to play.

      @@PavelFomenkov really appreciate the response. Getting back into guitar at 40, always hate when I fall in love with a song I think I can play, and then can’t physically play the chord. But I am going to try with the capo. Starting to come together. Grateful for the time you spent making this video and others.

    • @PavelFomenkov
      @PavelFomenkov  2 года назад +1

      David, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised that all Mark's rhythm guitar players always played this song with a capo on the 2nd fret! No capo version is some mighty fingerpicking right there. So nothing wrong with this version, I just figured since on the record Mark played it with no capo, I should teach it that way. But every method is legit and sounds great. Feel free to ask further questions, I'll be glad to answer them.

  • @EnzoIaia
