    Epic. The future of surf design meets the future of surf media. This interview was an important milestone in surf history the moment it was released. Daniel is so humble and chill it's awesome.
    Quality production. Awesome questions. Awesome answers.
    Thanks Chris

    I really like the direction this episode takes the show... Not only does your show speak about shapes and how they work, but now we can hear from the creator of these shapes and how they developed the shapes we ride!
    If I lived in San Diego, I would sooooo apply for a job at your studio.... You guys rock!

    This is an exciting development in your show. I look forward to future interviews of substance, especially if you can get your shapers to reveal a few secrets now and then. It is refreshing to listen to someone speak honestly and simply about how it all works. Relying upon yourself for field testing is crucial. I think most if not all really good shapers do this, at least to start. In this way they teach themselves what works for their designs and what doesn't. Excellent!

    • @SurfboardShredShow
      @SurfboardShredShow  9 лет назад +2

      Gary Niblock Working towards that. I think its very hard as a shaper/designer to share groundbreaking insights without being prompted or inspired. For example "So tell me about the board..." is not an inspiring question. In this episode I tried to make it easy for Tomo to share new details and insights, and I'm excited to get better at it.

    Love the new video and deviation from studio shred! Please keep the Shred Talks going!. One small recommendation, Tomos microphone is "hot" (sensitivity is too high and the volume is "clipping"). In post production you can always turn up low audio but never turn off clipped audio ; )

    Great stuff man. As a video guy and shaper I love what your doing. One bit of feedback- The audio kicks back and forth between the on-camera mic and LAV mics (causes that weird hollow sound between cuts). It sounds kinda funky but the interview is awesome and I enjoyed the camera work!! Great stuff I just shaped an Evo style board and can't wait to see how it goes after his explanation. KEEP IT GOING.

    • @SurfboardShredShow
      @SurfboardShredShow  9 лет назад +2

      Thanks for the feedback Clint Runyon we're making changes to get it right next time. I've learned the same thing repeatedly - you can hack lighting, camera work and video editing to a serviceable level fairly easy (shred show as an example), but audio is a beast to tame.

    I love how Dan talks about the kiteboard! Shape of the vader/vanguard, I ride a shortboard more with a kite than I do just surfing on. Kiteboard constructions tend to be lighter and stronger as well. Also the bamboo tech deck constructs really reduce pressure dings on boards which could poss translate well into shortboards for surfing possibly, although how this relates to flex im not sure. Will link a Sky Solbach video in next post - Siurf shaper for North kiteboards for those interested.

    The thing that I find most thought-provoking about this video is the fact that the current issue of Surfer Magazine's FEATURE ARTICLE is about the digression and regression of all things surf.
    "Surfers have seen the future and are fleeing from what it's becoming, fleeing back to surfing values from another time, eschewing their Darwinist obligation to surf faster, bigger, better, instead of surfing cooler - impossibly cooler, in some cases."
    I wonder what Tomo's reaction might be to this article...
    Nonetheless, cheers to another rad vid.

    + shred show
    Hey I recently got a stock 5'8 Sci fi and really liked the feel of the board. I've ridden epoxy boards a couple times over the last couple years but this is the first I've actually bought and ridden more than a session on and I really liked it. That being said I was extremely let down in the materials, specifically the rails. The deck and bottom have no dings or any damage but the rails are spider cracked and have actual foam cracks by the nose and I only rode the board 3 times in small surf. I typically ride PU merricks but figured I'd switch it up and try a EPS and the new slater designs. Is that a typical thing for EPS boards to have happen? The deck is solid and the bottom seems solid but the rails seem to be made of aluminum foil. I've surfed my entire life and surf a decent amount and have never had a board deteriorate so fast. The first session was tiny cocoa beach and I noticed tiny spider cracks and a slight cloth tint coming through the rails and then a couple sessions later I surfed Sebastian inlet on a stomach high day and the nose busted on both sides on the rail, the surf was only stomach high. I was just wondering if that's normal for these style of boards or if I just got a dud :/. Got it for small wave grovelling and durability and so far I've just had nothing but bad luck. The design, flex etc feels really good but I can't go for a surf without a new ding or 3 in the rails. I really don't know why this board is doing it, I've had dozens of boards and for some reason this one is just falling apart. Any advice or feedback would be awesome because I'm kinda stuck on what to do with it.
