Fantastic - single mum here in Australia trying to get some shade whilst camping with my son. Thankyou so much for your inventive idea! It's set me off on a massive ideas journey for camping DIYs. Thanks so much!
Jay just finished hiking the whole AT. Napa still has their tarp for under $100. Sucks napa doesn't carry the maxi trac anymore. Well it's out of stock.
Agreed!! The Maxitrac awning was the one I was looking to get too. There's a couple on Amazon from Vevor brand that look similar and are $130. I haven't pulled the trigger yet though. Keep hoping for a 270 degree awning to just show up on the truck one morning haha
A very informative video, thanks Ryan! I plan on doing almost the same tarp setup but with a much lighter/more versatile tarp(want to use it on hikes etc.). How are those suction cups holding up for you? I've read some reviews they undo themself under some time in the sun.
I'm glad it helped. I have since upgraded to a more permanent tarp, but I still used this for a while before that so I'll tell you what I did. I think the suction cups worked perfectly fine for what we are using them for. I did try to clean (with a wipe or at least water) then dry (with a paper towel) the area I would be putting the suction cups on. The suction cups didn't work perfectly 100% of the time. Somtimes I would have the awning setup for about 5 minutes and then one side would just come crashing down. BUT, I will say whenever I set it back up after that I would stay up until my camping trip was done. I can't really speak about them in the sun too much. I'm usually camping in pretty wooded areas and mostly would use an awning for the rain, not necessarily for shade. Send a picture if you end up trying it on your car! I'd like to know how it works with the lighter tarp.
@@AccidentalOverlander I bet it's more convenient to have something more permanent and rugged. Probably easier/faster to setup as well :) Thanks again. Will definitely send you pictures once I figure the rest of a setup out. Waiting for a bit better weather and will send you pictures once it's out in nature :)

Simple but very effective, works for me, thanks for sharing 😃👍
Agreed! Not the best awning, but it definitely works and you can't beat the price
