This was terrific! I knew that the Michelin Star was created to encourage driving, but there were a lot of other pieces that were fascinating. And I love the long form videos - you may have had some cuts for multiple takes but you kept the energy and feel of your short videos.
Doug, you’ve nailed it with longer format. I knew about the Michelin guide’s initial purpose before, but I’ve never knew that their maps ware used in WWII by allies. You are like Wikipedia in a video format! Thank you
you could hide the cuts with broll. Like when you cut, you are not in the frame. There is a picture on screen instead of you jumping from cut to cut. To all the people who will say "who asked?": He did. He literally asked in the end 😁 Keep up the good work! Your fun facts are truly rare ❤
Yeah I agree. I think he should look at other RUclipsrs for inspiration on editing such as half as interesting or scishow. Doug's videos have good content; however, it sometimes feels he is just extending his youtube short format, which does not work imo because it feels like info dumping. I really hope to see Doug succeed and think he can if he spends a lot of time studying how he can just reformat what he is already doing!
+1 The use of pictures is well placed and enhances the learning experience. Given how everyone knows the shorts style, creating the illusion of a single cut gives the same energy while allowing you to create a better overall experience through editing.
Didn't catch this until today. I love it! This whole map history intertwined with restaurants ratings! So cool! Good job! Do a long one every couple of weeks, it's just right. 😊
Great job!! If you’re worried about your cuts, you can time them up with when you show or hide photos, since there’s already a transition happening then anyway. Honestly though, i love your content!
This format is brilliant and I love these longer fun facts. His is straight good stuff and honestly more educational than what schools are crapping out. Because you have curiosity and integrity, and those 2 things matter more than we realize.
Adore the format, It's highly detailed, just like the Michelin maps. Knew some of the facts in this video but it's the outstanding distance you go to tell the entire story so concisely is what i enjoyed. Thank you, great video imo.
Love these videos, they get better every time! I would say don't be afraid to cut them up a little to make it easier to produce. you should talk about the chefs who have turned in their stars because they don't like the Michelin stars!
Using, effectively, the “vlog brothers” style of editing suits you well! Cutting out little breaths or swallows VASTLY improves the final video IMO. It may be annoying to edit, but it is greatly appreciated.
really wonderful video... excellent information and great presentation (glad you broke it up, hope was less stressful)! enjoyed the "Ha-za-zah" with finger guns. keep up the fantastic work kiddo.
I loved the format! I enjoyed the story you chose and the level of detail you carried throughout. I only really noticed one cut where you faded to a different take and the fade took too long, but yeah great work. I've been watching your shorts for a little while now and I like them a lot, I hope the long format goes well for you, it looks like your working hard and succeeding!
Huh. This was so cool! Genuinely a fun fact - I had no idea about most of the stuff in this video 👏 well done on another great piece! Your decision to go more in on your videos continues to prove to be a great one, Doug ❤️❤
I love both formats, and think cutting the longer ones is a non-issue. In fact, I didn't really notice the cuts, the flow was consistent. I suspect if you were to try to do every long format video in one take, you'd burn yourself out. We don't want that :) Keep it up - these videos make my day!
I enjoy it, and the longer format of fun facts because there’s an explanation and history behind it rather than only fun fact explanation without history. I personally would prefer you to take breathes rather than losing your voice from non stop talking lmao, don’t hurt your throat
Hey Doug, I love and appreciate the hard work you've put on all this. That being said, this way of delivery, which is your signature of course, your brand, does not work the same in long form as it does in short form videos. I think a fun fact is just that, A(!) fact. When going into long form videos it becomes something else, a story if you may, and a story needs a more divesified way of delivering it. I think that figuring out different ways to deliver your lines would benefit you more if you want to, for example branch out in the future and do different kinds of videos. This slightly high pitched, punctuated voice that's a little fast and done in what feels like a single breath, might be good to draw the attention of the viewer in a short form video but can be overwhelming in a long one. I'm a foreigner and that might play a role. Ok, I have to also say that I really like these videos and all your videos despite of all that I said, keep up the good work if that's what's good for your physical and mental health! bye ❤
I think there's a good core here, but the pacing/tempo could use a little change-up or two to break it up a little bit. Your delivery is really good, I think it's just more geared towards like, a 5 minute video tops, so a change-up or two would help a lot
I absolutely loved this video, and would encourage you to occasionally make content you enjoy even if the algorithm doesn't treat it as kindly. It's an important part of avoiding burnout and improving your experience as a creator!
Revised format was great and not noticeable that you were cutting unless you actively look for it. Lots of fascinating detail. I hiring you next time I need research done!
I really enjoy these typed of longer fun facts. Have you considered starting a Patreon for additional funding to help these types of videos? There are definitely a few people (including me) out there that would chip in!
I'm hoping I won't have to go the Patreon route. There's a couple things in the works so people can support without having to donate. It's a patience game of just letting things unfold as they should
Love your enthusiasm! And the fun facts! Have you done one about Wojtek the bear? (Might be spelled Woytek) if not it is fun to look into! Keep on good work!
In truth, the segmentation doesn't show, it all still feels like a one and done so if this style of production is better for you and has no downside for the viewer, awesome!
Doug, I'm huge fan of your work, and more recently, your story. I love forgotten bits of history and fun facts. I often regale friends and coworkers with the fun tidbits of knowledge I pick up along the way. I'd encourage you to reach out to other content creators in similar but distinct groups, such as The History Guy. Maybe you and other creators could team up to cover multiple facets of unique moments in history. Keep up the great work!!
Great stuff Doug. I like listening to these longer vids in the background so I can't say much about the visuals but the cuts definitely make it sound more cohesive. Keep up the great work 👍
Gordon Ramsay managed to outwit the Michelin Guide inspectors, when he noticed a French phone number making a reservation for his restaurant in London. He asked his French sous-chef if he knew the number, and he said "sure, that's the Michelin office in Paris, it's on the back cover of every guide." When the inspector arrived, Gordon made sure to double the portions of every dish he ordered, and ended up with a very good rating.

Love this!!! I didn't even notice your cuts! ~~ You opened my eyes to the idea that Michelin might actually be a cool company, at least it definitely was considering the brother's dedication to quality! Very Fun! Thanks!
You're doing well. It's fascinating to watch the birth of a youtuber. I hope you make millions... Or at least make this a very comfortable living for yourself. Good luck.
1:42 - here's a fun fact - this photo of "Frisby the Vulcanizer" was taken in Ottawa, at one of the first locations run by the Frisby family (known today in Ottawa for their eponymous "Frisby Tires" chain, which has operated in Ottawa for over 100 years. According to Don Frisby, this is the oldest photo of the company known.
Always enjoy your fun fact videos. The long form ones are definitely my faves. Really enjoy the greater depth. This FF brought a whole new perspective and interest to the Michelin guide for me.
Great job! Love this format of long fun fact. I already knew about the Michelin brothers but you found some extra new facts I didn’t know. Love your work
Cool 🎉 I like short and long, but have to admit for longer facts you really need to dedicate time that I don’t always have 😌 luckily today is Sunday 😅 but every day I wake up and watch one short fact 😅❤❤❤ lots of love 💕
I feel the fact that this was a French tire company, and not a German or English or American tire company, probably helped with catapulting this guide and its rating to the top of the gastronomic industry. First, the guide was printed in French, which helped make it classy to its non-French audience. Second, I'm quite sure the Michelin company was so intent on publishing the finest guide that they hired the best "mystery diners" in the industry to rate restaurants. And that just made the guide even more prestigious. I bet only an Italian tire company could've pulled off something similar, especially if this guide had been published in Italian.
I love these longer fun facts; it feels so comprehensive and the segmentation works very well
So agree!! ❤
Well done - great research, fun presentation, great topic, ect... Keep them coming 🎥😎🥇
Yup, really a great channel

amazing job, so cool how much history is behind something as simple as restaurant rating. thanks Doug
I think you're doing great! I seriously didn't notice there was a cut until you mentioned it and I have to look for it myself. Keep up that grind ✊
Awesome video. 😊 🇨🇦
I didn't even realize there were cuts tbh!! Great video
I do enjoy the more in-depth information about certain topics in these long form videos.
really wonderful video... excellent information and great presentation (glad you broke it up, hope was less stressful)!

Great Fun Fact and flow in the video. Definitely getting a rhythm established that I hope everyone will enjoy. Thank you.!
You are among the very best content creators on youtube. Your concise well thought storytelling is always a joy. Thank you.
Appreciated the cuts in this video - tempo and flow was easier to watch than the previous long-form. You're doing great Doug!
Thanks! Glad there's noticeable improvements

That's fascinating actually. Love these long form videos. Personally I don't mind the cuts
Nailed it!
The little quick fades work really well for cutting up long form content like this. Great work!!
Love your enthusiasm! And the fun facts! Have you done one about Wojtek the bear? (Might be spelled Woytek) if not it is fun to look into! Keep on good work!
Please make this everyday, it is like a modern day encyclopedia, like I get facts whenever I like
I often wondered why the tire company rated restaurants. Thank you for the information 😺
Gotta say i already knew about the michelin star origin, but didnt about all the extra info you talked about. Great vid btw
LOVED this one. GREAT work.
damn im early lol
This helped stimulate my brain at work and got me through my day thank you so much
You did good. It was wonderfully informative
Awesome fun fact, the war part was particularly interesting.

Great video bud
good job on the video...im here for whichever random fun fact you decide tell us about ....long or short ..cut or not .. 👍
I am a simple man, I see a Doug Sharpe post and I watch it. Keep up the great work!
Cutting works great! This was smooth as butter, Doug :)
"It's perfect" if you know you know.
Great vid. Love the longer format. You are very good at telling a story.
Well done.
I like the longer form videos, i usually have the attention span of a chicken nugget, and i actually pay attention to these lol
Really like your longer form videos!
You are such a badass! That was amazing! I love your stuff. Very difficult and you absolutely make it look easy!

This was wonderful!!
I knew it had something to do with the tire company but no one was listening to me smh
Ciao! Greetings from "les pays du soleil" 😅
I love your content and pretty like the editing. Also the duration is perfect. Very bravo!🤌
Thanks Eroi!
Really nice video Doug 👍
This format is great. Very informative with good context. Thanks!
I liked this one a LOT more than the last one. The "cut up" version flowed better. The "single breath" ones still work well for the 60 second ones.
I have always wondered about this...
Good job
I think you’re doing wonderful Doug. ❤ I am looking forward to watching you continue to grow as a creator.
Longer than a Short. I love it!
Great stuff Doug. I like listening to these longer vids in the background so I can't say much about the visuals but the cuts definitely make it sound more cohesive. Keep up the great work 👍

MORE!!! MORE!!! Long vids… super informative. Great Job as always.
great content

BON APETIT!
THIS WAS AWESOME! I make sure to watch and like all of your videos! This was a huge improvement!
Good 😊
I like both. I always enjoy your videos. Always interesting content.
Fascinating. Thanks for sharing this. I like what you’re doing.
This was absolutely fascinating. I take the Michelin Guide for granted. It was great learning about its evolution and its history with the war. ❤
Very much enjoyed the longer form. So much info and it was all fascinating. Didn't mind the cuts.
