The version from the Disasterpieces DVD in London is wayyyyyyyy better in my opinion. You get Iowa era pissed off Slipknot. Corey sounds way more raw and brutal, conveys the emotion of the song better. I feel download only gets requested because of the crowd size, which is dope too, but the band's performance is more seasoned. That raw Slipknot should be what they react to 🙂🙏🙏🙏

You listen to Killpop and you think wow he really feels for this girl, but the girl is his emotions towards the music industry. There's always some meaning you don't expect in these lyrics and figuring out what they actually meant to him is so interesting.

Corey Taylor is an amazing songwriter. He makes you feel what he’s feeling. The drums on Slipknot songs are unmatched.
My take on it is that Nero was the one who let Rome burn, and forte being good at something (as in something is your forte), i read it as the object of the song is someone whose greatest skill, i.e. thier forte, is burning things down, a la Nero.

My take is that Nero Forte refers to the depression of the lead singer this album was written after, as nero translates to “darkness or black” and forte translates to “strong or strength”. So in all it means strong darkness
Also, out loud it sounds like "narrow forte", which would be like their greatest skill (the burning things down) is also their only skill
This is actually not a song about breakup, even though it’s easily interpreted as that. It’s a song about Corey Taylor’s (the main singers,) depression. he struggled with depression and presumably still is.

Alot of his lyrics are centered around his relationship with the music industry or fellow bandmates but he writes in such away that it becomes relatable to more people. Hes actually been happily married for years.
You guys NEED to check out Spit It Out (live at download 2009) by them. Don't worry about the lyrics as much, its more of the actual stage show and the way Cory handles the crowd.

Finally getting into some slipknot lyrics are pretty deep. Also this genre of metal is called nu-metal so there are some aspects of rapping in nu-metal.
Yeah I think people who enjoy rap and want to check out harder music should definitely listen to nu metal. It blends the two genres so well.
I absolutely love her reaction to the power and flow of slipknot. It's actually fun to watch her rock out to Slipknot. I wish my girl would rock out with me when I'm playing guitar and jamming Slipknot.

Lex, I think you nailed it! I always believed that people were wrong when they said that people who listen to metal are angry and aggressive. I listen to a a LOT of metal and I think it is what keeps me rooted. I can release the anger that the world causes by vicariously listening to these songs that speak to things like this without being angry and aggressive in my day to day. And Slipknot is a great band to cross from Hip Hop to Metal. They were part of the Nu Metal genre and cross that line between rap and rock a lot.

Slipknot has a way to put tuff subjects into lyrics that allow fans, to dump the emotions that are brought out from the hands of otherS that isolate and demeans u as a human.
Majority of that album is about one of the long time band members betraying and leaving the band, then suing them for money. The lead singer took it personally.

I believe this song is completely internally directed. Not a break up song, more of an anger at yourself.
While it could be interpreted that way, the singer ,Corey Taylor, had just gone through a divorce before making this album so it's definitely about a relationship.
Heavy music has the most intelligent lyrics of all genres. This music is raw and true emotions are spilled through the music .
Metal is often a journey. You don't understand an entire song in one sitting. It is a lot like a game with a lot of replay value because you can play it many times and experience different things. Often this is how us metal heads learn the lyrics... we listen, and listen, and listen and then we are singing... When I was young I'd sometimes read the inserts to get the lyrics but most of the time I'd approach first listen like an overview and then each subsequent listen new layers would become clear. Then I discovered good Progressive Metal and it takes this process to an insane level.
This is such a good reaction video! It's really refreshing to see you both break down the lyrics & their meaning as well as tapping in to the energy of the music rather than just being put off by the bands dark imagery & harsher vocals...
As for the line about "A home like yours is upside down" I get the feeling that its more than just a bad break-up as I feel he's calling her a home-wrecker - She's not just cheated on him, she's broken a home/family as he can't forgive her transgressions - "Too much animosity".
