I just started reading Meditations, I’ve always had a deep fascination with Alec Guinness’s version of Obi-Wan and I could not be more happy to discover this.
In his autobiography, Blessing in Disguise, he said that he watched no more than 20 minutes of the film, he never liked the screenplay. Is not a bad film, specially know, when is very easy watch bad films, but is a comercial film, acomercial film of the 60's.
I think Mr Guinness used his Marcus aurelius character to express obi wan. And thus make a private joke of star wars. An emperor in the skin of a fugitive.
I find the screenplay very good. It has, of course, many historical goofs, although far less than "Gladiator", which is a plagiarized version of this movie.

marcus aurelius was probibly the best guy to ever be in a powerful position
Well he did pick his retarded son to be the emperor.
@@markb8426 Well, Augustus also left the empire to Tiberius who left it to Caligula.. you can't blame him.
No,he wasn't.He was actually quite weak.

@@cristhianramirez6939 True, Claudius was good though.
Marc was the dude. As quotable as Cicero. "Pursuit of the unattainable is insane."
He does bear quite a resemblance to the official statues of Marcus.
I was fortunate enough to discover an 1895 edition of Meditations in mint condition. I paid only $4.95 for it.
Lucky
A great emperor portrayed by a great actor.
Hello there

This is not Alec Guiness as Marcus Aurelius! This is Marcus Aurelius himself!
and Kenobi
In fact, if this one is right, Marcus Aurelius indeed had some similarities with Alec Guinnes:

Trust me, Obi-Wan was the least remarkable of his performances.
I find the screenplay very good. It has, of course, many historical goofs, although far less than "Gladiator", which is a plagiarized version of this movie.

Why not? It's one of his greatest!
But for me is one of his best works, of course, and he looked very much as the real emperor Marcus Aurelius.
I like very much his performance as Marcus Aurelius, but Guinness never liked this film.
It is.
@histatimaniples:- The emperor Nero had blonde hair and Caligula had red hair. They were not Latins.
The Byzantine Empire chugged on for another thousand years. 😔
Sure. And as Edward Gibbon put it " in a permanent state of mediocrity".Or words to that effect.
