I've been on mesalazine, azathioprine and infliximab for about 15 months and they have just found out that I've developed antibodies to infliximab so that has had to stop now unfortunately. So back to the drawing board.
Excellent presentation! I hope lots of ulcerative colitis patients watch this video! It's also important to recognize that UC patients are more vulnerable to unhealthy lifestyles, and that's why consistency is so important. So when there are social pressures, especially during the Christmas holidays, to eat unhealthy foods and stay out late, we must politely say no. -But this is a good thing in the long run!
I agree. I was diagnosed with UC in 2010 and I had one minor flare in 2013. I have been sign and symptom free ever since with normal twice yearly blood work. My last colonoscopy in 2013 was normal and I haven't needed one since. I think it's important to acknowledge that frequent flares are not inevitable with this disease!
Infliximab is what rescued me from my most intense flare. In the past I used mesalasine enemas and steroid enemas and that helped me get out of flares.
