I'll always love how Rick KNEW what happened to Morty in the bathroom (you can see him eyeballing king jellybean as he comes out of the bathroom), but doesn't ask him about it because he knew it was traumatic for Morty and he didn't want Morty to know he knew because Morty might be ashamed or triggered by it, and he killed king Jellybean without Morty seeing.
Morty is Rick's to traumatize and no one else's.
Rick looking at him like: *whatever u did to my grandson, u'll pay for it btch*
That's true. Of course, Rick also buries the topic and never offers to talk about it with Morty even well-after the attack, so he's kinda selfish in his response. Not sure Morty's ever aware of Rick killing his attacker, although whether he'd want to be is an open question. It's a good example of a response centered around Rick's desires instead of Morty's, though Rick seems to have good intentions. Giving his winnings to the villagers was definitely all about Morty, though.
Given the airdate of Jan 2014, I think the Mr. Jelly Bean thing may be a direct reference to the unfolding Jimmy Savile scandal in Britain (as well as just underscoring that the universe and the beings in it can be both fantastic and monstrous, as Morty learned again at the beginning of the episode). Savile was a popular BBC TV host for decades, and was known for "helping" kids. After his death, hundreds of allegations of child molestation came to light, many of which had been raised years or decades earlier and covered up by people at the BBC and other institutions who, obviously, should have known better. It's possible some of them did so using the very logic employed by the box-burner at the end of the episode. Clearly, that was a terrible, self-serving decision.

This episode was a turning point for Morty. He starts to stand up for himself so much more and become more of Ricks partner rather than Ricks sidekick/victim. It's awesome.

The Meeseeks box is simultaneously the most useful and most dangerous invention on the show lol
I love how Jerry was the only one who actually listened to the rules of the meeseeks box and then he ends up being the only one who can't do it until the very last moment
Yeah, it's funny that he makes the request that sounds the simplest, but ends up being the hardest. Summer and Beth make what seem like difficult requests, but end up easy because of how vague they are. Jerry's is hard because it is skill-based and measurable, which is made worse by the fact that he is unremarkable and lazy.

She was having so much fun till Morty almost got raped in a bathroom by a jellybean man. But that's how this show goes.
for all the "rick is an emotionless evil person" people, I'd like to draw their attention to how rick immediately knew what has just happened when morty got out of the bathroom, and he did not "take the win and leave", but instead, gave morty the support he needed there, and in the end, killed the jelly bean, for what he did..
You're right, but the fact that Rick is capable of empathy and compassion and yet chooses to display it so infrequently might make him a worse character, morally, than if he were simply unable.
@@michaelccozens well you have to see it from ricks perspective. To him his real family is dead. Yet he still cares about them all.
@@slamyourheadin9449 Except he demonstrably doesn't, as exemplified by his treatment of the "Cronenberg" family. And, as Rick himself says, every family is equally "real". To him, that makes them meaningless, instead of infinitely meaningful, which is a choice on Rick's part. It's a rather cowardly decision, too, which doesn't say a lot for his commitment to anyone; he seemed to be looking for an excuse to check-out.
We also don't know the fate of Rick's "original" family.
For me it's never necessarily been that he's "evil," and he's certainly not emotionless, dude's way more layered than that. It's just that he's such a massive dick so much of the time to most of the people around him, makes him really easy for me to dislike.
Guys all of y'all are right. Rick is shitty and chooses to be so, but because he is suffering. However, while it certainly explains it, it doesn't excuse it. Bad past or emotional state doesn't justify being a dick to unrelated people, especially if you are able to CHOOSE not to be. Thankfully Rick does grow in this show, as does Morty

Late finding your R&M reacts, but I just want to say that I've always respected the way they portrayed rape in this episode.
Mainly because of how realistic it was.
It was sudden, it was frantic, it was a horrific experience.
Morty was instantly mentally defeated and desperately wanted to leave and go home.
This is rape and what it does to people. And then Rick's silent retribution to dish out what was deserved.
I can't help but applaud how seriously it was treated.
I knew this episode was going to freak her out, and I suspect this won't be the last time it happens lol
S1E6 is a complete mindfk at the end for anyone who is smoking the stickiest of the icky and watching it for the first time. At least an hour of silent contemplation occurs after the episode is over.

Don't blame us for that. lol The real take away is that Rick can see Morty is truly distressed and does what he can to help him. Showing that Rick does care.

I've noticed that too. Don't know if there's an established term for that particular animation quirk, but I always called it the "Ren mouth" because it's an expression that the character from Ren and Stimpy would often be drawn with, and I've never seen it utilized anywhere else but on these two shows.
I think Roiland has confirmed that the "droopy lip" thing is a direct ref to Kricfalusi's R&S. A shame John's a sexual predator and child molester, for many reasons, a very small one being that any further R&S stuff seems unlikely, although Kricfalusi wasn't involved past the first 2 seasons.
Edit: On further investigation, it appears there is an R&S revival in the works, sans Kricfalusi. Cool!
This was the first episode I watched of Rick and Morty and it’s what got me into it 😂 my friends specifically had me watch this episode and it’s still my favorite episode to this day

The creators said that they wanted that bathroom scene to be as real as they could make it, with no irony or comedy at all.

Funny that you should say that this show reminds you of back to the future, because This show started with shorts made called ‘the adventures of Doc and Marty.’ For copyright reasons this was changed to Rick and Morty :D

This episode starts to show how much Rick actually cares about his family...He killed that king and he will kill more to save his family...Jerry included. In a future episode he is even prepared to sacrifice himself to save Morty's life without hesitating.

Jerry asks for the simplest request, yet it causes all the trouble in the B story. This unpredictability makes the meeseeks a pretty dangerous form of genie.
About Rick's catchphrase, "wubba lubba dub dub," originally it was supposed to be "woob woob woob" like you often hear Curly yell out when Moe is chasing him, but Justin Roiland apparently didn't watch enough of The Three Stooges to get the reference, so he mispronounced it. Which is all for the best, anyway, since doing the "woob woob woob" thing is Dr. Zoidberg's shtick in Futurama.

I think the post-credits scene is the writers calling out that one cromulent SImpsons episode, "Lisa the Iconoclast", where in the end she somehow reasons that the Springfieldians' _false, unearned pride_ in their murdering, thieving town founder is much more important than _truth_ or any _justice_ for his many victims.
This is one if my favorite episodes of this season!! The title is a reference to the Metallica song called Seek and Destroy.

Okay, IMHO, Community should absolutely be at the top of that poll, and What We Do in the Shadows should be #2 (OMG it's hilarious). Then I"ll put Rick & Morty and for f**k's sake, nobody can react to every episode of IASIP, that would take a whole year! Haven't seen Cobra Kai but not really interested. Okay, now to watch this reaction!
