I have a 140bhp version on 78k and while it isn't very quick in the straight lines, it is still fun in the corners without really risking my license - mine's lowered 30mm which helps a lot with handling. I only paid £900 for mine 5 years ago and I've spent nothing on it except a couple of tyres, a new backbox and lowering it. Really simple to work on and one thing that gets overlooked is they're properly practical with a massive boot once you put the seats down since the hatch opens up fully. Deffo underrated cars - they're not fast but they're fun and cheap (and reliable). Headlights are shit though, lol

open the air box, take the butterfly valve out of it and plug the air pipe with a screw, costs nothing and transforms the car, and gets more power, makes it sound meaty
@@alistairmacgregor1456 bad idea tbh to remove the valve..first of all you lose low end torque. secondly because of heatsoak during low rpm cruise eg city driving you have higher intake temperature without the valve. thirdly higher fuel consumption where u mostly need fuel economy aka outside vvtli. 4th you lose break pressure coming from a stop, not sure about it but u can google it. pros 1hp gain unoticable {dyno} and a bit more noise.
@@leviathanan6698 you really don't know what your talking about, you dont get higher temps, its an external air feed, the butterfly valve is in the box, its better and similar to fitting a cold air intake but this actually is cold air not from the engine bay, fuel economy actually improves as more air fuel, and you dont loose tourq at all, i have done this it is fine and most people do this upgrade, if your worried about fuel ecconomy you bourght the wrong car mate, were talking about making it faster not fuel ecconomy your in the wrong room mate, this car is not designed for fuel ecconomy lmao, bad idea you dont know what your talking about for get google mate, and forget the dyno, you can tell driving it there is a vast improvment.
Have the GT TRD one in Thunder Grey. Lowered 35mm to standard. Always change oil in these every 2500/3000 miles. Clean OCV filters and always check lift bolts periodically. But brilliant cars and handle like go-karts through twisty roads and can embarrass many higher HP/Torque cars in country lanes. I use Denso IK20TT spark plugs. Seem to suit it over standard plugs. For performance upgrades always check out Monkey Wrench Racing. Se7en Motorsports here in the UK also offer a Rotrex Supercharger kit that takes it to 300+ BHP and improves torque (which sadly are low in these). Great car though. Reliable and fun and still look great in today's jelly-mould look all the same modern cars.

This smokes an EP3, and a wrx sti on country lanes, and focus rs, Ive done it personally if you keep it in lift it will smoke most cars, and if your on a country lane and drive right it will leave a subaru wrx sti littrary leave it, i did it against a mate who had a classic subaru the older one, sti wrx, 4x4 and this little 1.8 screamer smoked it, and he is a very good driver, we would do corners at 100mph, he wasnt laughing after the run, first he tried with a audi a3 turbo, no chance, then he bourght a subaru and was laughing at me saying 2 liter turbo 4x4 rally car against your FWD 1.8 non turbo, I smoked him several times, in a straight line through it will win up to around 100mph then scooby flys by, and EP3 wouldnt stand a chance if you drive this car right,

@@hoodstig its just a de-butterfly mod, its basically de-restrcting the car, make sure you use a screw thats a tight fit, u can use a zip tie aswell if you want, its the cheepest mod, and probably the best mod for the gains and mostly for the sound transformation, takes the ecu about 10 miles to calobrate, use 99 octain fuel aswell makes big difference, de-butterfly, NGK superfire irridium spark plugs, and K&N air pannel filter, cheep good mods that will take you above 200BHP
@@samcharles1166 only by a couple of hp, they make a bigger spark, if your after good gain N/A, I surgest port and polish the head, or a PPE redline merged race header, or a ddpr long runner intake manifold, the best way to make these go faster really is a port and polish head, double valve springs and retainers upgrade, a piggy ecu (apexi fc) or (AEM ems4) raise the rev limiter to 10,000 rpm, lower lift to kik in at 5500, and fit kazz final gear ration or the C-ONE 3 and 4th gear kit, go to monkey wrench racing they do it all. this will only get you 30BHP but the gears will knock a second of ya 60 time, you can get to around 350NHP natural asperated but it will cost you over 10,000, best best really is turbo or superchrger, there is a bolt on super charger there around 2500 3000,
It doesn’t effect the HP at all. The ECU is completely locked on the Gen 7s, any mod at all big or small won’t give you any more horsepower. You need an Apexi for example.

@@dannybooth1325 Thats where the celica excells, one reason they get bad press is coz the USA one only has 180bhp,and they like tourqe and straight line speed, not only that but depending on the year model you get makes the difference, the 1999/2000 model and the 2003 model are the quickest, lift doesn't kick in until 6300rpm and all the other years the rev limiter is 7800, some its 8200, but the 03 plate is 8700rpm limiter, so with 2400rpm of lift you can keep it in lift from 1st to 6th with quick shifts, the country lane is what it was made for, they may be front wheel drive and only 192bhp, but they only weight 1100kg if you take the spare out, they offically beat a gen6 GT4 on country lanes, the 7th gen is the quickest one, my mate used to drive with me all the time, WV bora v6, then he had an audi A3 turbo he couldnt keep up, then he got a subaru impreza classic wrx sti, he turned up laughing 4wheel drive turbo you got no chance, I smoked it on country lanes, he couldn't keep up, and he is a very good driver, the celica is a magical car if you drive it right, most people get in it and don't rev it to the limit, its what its made for, it lacks tourqe so low ends slow, but you can push the accelerator full power on mid bends and the low tourqe is an advantage it's so low it will never spin you out, the lift was designed for corner exiting speeds, to equal the car really you need near 300BHP in a normal car just because of the weight difference, most cars are aorund 1500kg also it does depend on how you drive it, it has a learning ECU it adapts to the driver, so if you are always in lift, and I was addicted to it, the car will be faster than a normal drivers celica, I loved it, its a screamer, if you rev the tits of it, it will beat most cars on a country lane, its claimed 7.2 seconds to 60, but I only had the airbox de butterflyed, and a exeady carbon race clutch and used 99 octaine fuel and I could do it in 5 seconds, I miss it so much, there is so much you can do to them as well, piggy back ecu and doubble valve springs and you can put the rev limiter up to 10,000 to 12,000 RPM, ive seen rotrex supercharger builds pushing 500BHP, se7en sport does the rotrex super charger builds, monkey wrench racing is a great place for mods probably the worlds best for the 2zz ge engine,. body kit on them makes them look sweet as well.
