Norwegian Spirit Full HD Tour - First look after $100M REFIT!!

  • Norwegian Cruise Line spent an eye watering $100 million on Norwegian Spirit just before the global cruise shutdown. With cruising now back in full swing, the 75,000 ton Leo class ship has made her return to service debut and… WOW… NCL has pulled off something AMAZING with this ship.
    As you’d imagine with a $100 million price tag, this refit wasn’t just touching up the interior spaces - it has been totally reimagined. They stripped the insides back to the bare metal and rebuilt nearly all of the internal spaces. I can think of only a handful of 20-year-old ships that have had such a significant mid-life investment.
    But having cruised on Norwegian Spirit, I think it was money well spent… to see for yourself… keep watching. I sailed aboard Norwegian Spirit from Lautoka, Fiji to Sydney as a guest of NCL. While NCL provided the cruise and travel free of charge, I have not been paid to make this video. That said, I want to send a huge thanks to the team at Norwegian Cruise Line for providing the opportunity for me to share this tour with you.
    Ok let’s go aboard Norwegian Spirit!

    Very good overview, thanks, and also a beautiful ship. Note to self: try NCL next, it's to my taste. In extended reviews I always look for detailed reviews of the gym and fitness areas, whether or not they're included as in the old days, and what exactly. These usually get skipped over save a quick cardio machine photo sweep. I'll stay tuned :)

    • @ChrisFrameOfficial
      @ChrisFrameOfficial  Год назад +3

      Hey Ed. There was a pretty good sized cardio area. Weights machines were Technogym brand and situated to the aft of the gym. There was only one rowing machine and it was a technogym not my preferred Concept 2. The jogging track was better than the treadmills and I liked the basketball court.

      I hope they preserved the bridge viewing room. I was on the Spirit in 2008. I stumbled into it from the Spinnaker Observation Lounge, going down the staircase in the middle of the lounge.
      I really enjoyed learning the history of the ship and paraphernalia of the ship through its history, displayed in that room, and be able to see inside the bridge.

      Hello! There was a heap to do - multiple pools, jogging track, lots of trivia, bingo, gym, aerobics classes, morning yoga, Q&A with the captain, live music, dancing, casino tournaments, the taste session with the cool cocktails, karaoke, digital games on the big screens.. She’s not got the water parks or go kart tracks of the newer ships but there was plenty to do.

    Back in the 1980s, I worked for the short-lived Bermuda Star Line. And I’ve been on many sailings before and since. I always felt that they were all basically the same, depending on what you’re looking for. HAL, Cunard,Princess, probably the best for the price. Celebrity, very good. Carnival runs a good show if you have young children, although mine are adults now. The one cruise line I detested was NCL. I didn’t like the open times, the open seating, the waiters scrambling to keep up with the ever-changing faces, the disarray of the shore excursions, the tiny beds (when they shifted at short notice one of their ships from Asia to New York). So NCL can gussy up their ship any way they want; I will never return.

    • @ChrisFrameOfficial
      @ChrisFrameOfficial  Год назад +2

      Thanks Dave. I wasn’t really aiming for a “full review” with this one, rather a ship tour - but I thought mentions of the compact cabin, wrong dish being served at Onda and views of the closed pool etc. were balancing factors to what was an exceptionally good cruise. I’ll definitely take your feedback on board for next time though. I also mention more about the onboard experience on the long form podcast that is due to go live later today. Thanks again 😊

    • @ChrisFrameOfficial

      I appreciate the feedback and I probably could have mentioned a few other pointers - such as only one rowing machine in what was otherwise a very well stocked gym (and it was a Technogym not Concept 2 😏) and why is it that all cruise ship gyms have such low ceilings? Spirit’s was better than some (I’m looking at you QE/QV) but when you’re tall like me, treadmills and cross trainers become daunting with the head height being so low on cruise ships 😫

    I'm so tired of ship interiors that look just like what's found on land. I'd just stay in a nice hotel or resort if I wanted that. Are there any ships that feel like a true ship or ocean liner any more????

    • @ChrisFrameOfficial
      @ChrisFrameOfficial  Год назад +1

      Hi John! I hear you - it’s so nice to find a shippy-ship that really feels different to anything on land. To answer your question, Queen Mary 2 certainly feels like an ocean liner (given she is the only one left). I would say that there are lots of nice and unique features on Spirit tho. The observation lounge was amazing and the big windows in the dining room gave a perspective you can’t get on land and the ship’s stern open deck gives the impression of a sheer which was interesting. The bow of Deck 4 has watertight doors (you won’t find these on land hehe) and the forward corridors zig-zag inward to counter the curve of the hull. I also liked the top deck which had a very “ship” feel to it and the terraced aft decks are a delight and very reminiscent of Oriana, Aurora and even the old QE2.

    • @johndoe-vf4un
      @johndoe-vf4un Год назад

      @@ChrisFrameOfficial I'm glad I got to travel on the QE2 back in 1996. I guess I'm just an old soul longing for the golden age of ocean liners. I do feel that I got to experience the excitement of anticipation for new info when the QM2 was being built and I had high hopes for her with the artists renderings of public rooms, but I think she fell a bit short. To me just a little tweaking and she would've been more ocean liner-like. I too also noticed they don't do aft decks like they used to. In fact, open deck space seems to be disappearing with each passing year. Oh well, I'm happy to have my ocean liner books and deck plans. (I also miss ships having that classic interior layout - symmetry. And where has the enclosed promenade deck gone!!)
