That combination of charisma, confidence, warmth and imagination makes Martin one of the most interesting pianists of his generation. He makes the pianistic part look easy and takes us on a journey from which we never want to return. He even managed to seduce the normally conservative jury into allowing him to the final. A deserved entry, Martin. You should get all the accolades you can get for showing us Chopin in a way that we were never aware of.
The competition is over. Garcia received Third prize! and best Concerto performance. But of all the contestants, I find myself coming back to his performances most. I also like his choice of selections best.
You are absolutely right. After month I come back over and over again . 😊
is that like an official title? best concerto performance? bc i rly enjoyed his concerto (:
今回のショパンコンクールで、こんなすばらしい逸材が見れてうれしい
He made me happy and seems he is enjoying himself very much as well. He probably forgot this is a competition, looks more like his recital^^
If Aimi Kobayashi representing the dark side of Chopin, Garcia Garcia must be the bright side. ❤️
Yes they are opposites indeed.
@@mareksobieraj8760 I felt the way you do, but he won me over. I never doubted his talent and musicality, but whether his playing was "true to Chopin". I stand by my chosen phrase for how I view this: "Big Tent." I'm appreciating Chopin in ways I never did before, and all I can do is say how thankful I am to the jury and most especially to Mr. Garcia for opening up a whole new dimension to my love of Chopin. It doesn't matter that I've always gravitated to the melancholy, dark view and approach, and maybe still do just as much. Mr. Garcia brings a light and charm and spontaneity and vitality that does nothing to diminish these other aspects, but rather *complement* and thus amazingly *enhance* them. This is POETRY, my friend!!!
@@mareksobieraj8760 SAME!!!!! I felt exactly as you did, then the concerto showed me how wrong I was!!! Isn’t it great to be wrong!
@@AnonYmous-ry2jn I generally appreciate darker, more introspective artists also. Maybe it is "the year and a half" we have had...but I felt the more joyful interpretations fared better this year. I was blown away by Aimi's Preludes, but for me the darkness and heaviness (emotional not touch) of her playing was almost suffocating. Bravo Garcia! Each round I thought he might not make it. I wondered what the judges would do with him - create a special prize?- but he got better and better throughout.
Martin Garcia Garcia's performance makes me happy🥰
When I am frustrated with my job, I always come here to listen to his performance because it brings me happiness and peace
Once in a blue moon a great pianist appears and enchants us with such complete and utter grasp of the music he plays and its entire construct, not just the feisty virtuoso bits but especially the enormous delicacy in it all. I'm just blown away by this man.
From the candidates I, ve heard so far, this guy has the most beautiful playing. For me this is the most Chopin sound, tone and approach. His tone is fresh, airy, romantic. His transitions are seemles. If you don, t look at what he does you might think he flows over the piano, rather then press it. Excellent phrasing! Bravo! Definitely a Chopin master! He could perfectly record a complete Chopin recordings for Deutche Gramophone. It would be a new benchmark for Chopin playing and romantic playing too.
The Chopin which makes everyone happy. His Chopin made me cry with joyful and hope. I’d like to listen to his performance all the time. Congratulations to be a finalist. So glad to meet the unforgettable pianist. I’m your fan.
Me too!
Ok
@@sakusaku-kx1pm.I met him personally here in Brazil.
Martin came along and snatched my heart right out of my chest, on the way to accompanying him on his joyful journey through his Chopin! Remarkable artist 💥💥💥
!!!MARTÍN GARCÍA GARCÍA ! Thank you! this is absolutely miraculous! your excellent sound , feeling technical perfection and facial and body expression! BRAVO! you gave to my heart joy and sensibility! this is an authentic fantastic Chopin's interpretation !Wish you to be one of the final participants ! but any way you will stay in our hearts forever!
Sweetest prelude I have ever listened in my life . His performance is something very special “ heal the world …” I truly feel joy and secure surrounded by his sound. He has something more than technique … I’d definitely love to see his performance in real sometimes 🤩thank you for your performance
Music is joy. This man embodies this simple thing.
So true. What if he plays the Funeral March Sonata though… now that would be a paradox. Can’t think of any other way to put it.
I guess it’s like the spirit of the blues: you can have extreme joy and sadness at the same time.
Love the brilliance and radiance of his playing. Martín García is a genius. 👍👍👍
Here’s a great artist! Even when one does not agree with whatever he’s doing, one feels compelled to hear him out. Amazing!
love his playing... he's got power and delicacy at the same time.
I'm coming back to his performance again and again. His beautiful clear sound is really smooth and comfortable to my mind. His music full of joy is a vitamin to my heart.
Beautiful harmony of the music and the pianist...a lot of feeling and the perfection , all the very best Martin
I love how someone actually used the preludes as.. preludes! Bravo for a fantastic performance across all rounds you have truly excelled and delivered your musical ideas with pleasure. Best of luck in the final.
This man always holds the spotlight firmly on the melodies even when the accompaniments demand virtuosity which often causes lesser pianists to lose focus. Also, his passionate interpretations are full of child-like wonder and innocence that I’m hearing Chopin’s music in a new, unique way.
This 'peculiar' guy has surprised us once again with his unconventional playing. Although his playing is not so flawless, he is the candidate with the strongest personality. His interpretations are characterized by great originality and freshness as well as emotional warmth. Especially his mazurkas and waltzes were full of humor and had a bell-like sound.
If you like Lang Lang’s overacting gesture, you’ll love this dude.
@@LC-ig2jm I believe that Lang Lang's mannerism during performance are a genuine and authentic part of who he is, and not an affectation.
It is commonly believed that the main reason why Ivo Pogorelic was eliminated in the third round of the controversial 1980 Chopin competition was because some of the judges thought that he was trying to mimic the unconventional mannerism that Glenn Gould exhibited during performances.
BTW, I don't recall there being much (if any) criticism of GG for that, with the notable exception of the late, great harpsichordist Scott Ross, who said that Gould was a nut (or words to that effect) who didn't understand Bach at all. Ross was a Professor of Music and an acknowledged authority on Baroque music. He made two outstanding recordings of the Goldberg Variations on the harpsichord, and without utilizing what we would now call the Cut & Paste method of cobbling together the best parts of several takes that GG did to produce his recordings of the GV that Columbia Masterworks released to the public, for which he garnered so much acclaim, justifiably or not.
The must win is so beautiful his music
@@LC-ig2jm for some reason I can't stand Lang Lang's mannerisms at all (although I think he's a good pianist) but this guy's mannerisms don't bother me, they feel natural
His unique playing combined with the sound of the Fazioli almost has an “on period instrument” sound to it
my sixth time listening to this performance
You can tell how much he loves music, he makes the piano sing and his music touches people’s hearts and brings joy to all. He is so special!
What a surprise and superb waltz Op. 34 Nr. 3 !! Very unique playing style, very happy!
His performance reminds me of a simple truth- a piano is a song. Que maravilloso. Mucha suerte en el final.
I like your playing very much. Listening to your performance brings back various memories of my childhood. The finest performance is not only the beauty of the tone and the outstanding technique, but also something that moves people's hearts. Your playing has it.
From Japan.
My daughter said, " he will become a pianist like Cyprien Katsuaris, don't you think so ?" Absolutely!!
I'm looking forward to listening to his piano here in Japan, in the near future🎶
He played the Op. 28 No. 17 Prelude to open -- the right piece at the right time. The best way to open. I don't understand why other competitors in this competition (past and present) shy away from this piece.
He has one and only.
I love this performance.
Listened to many of the competitors but for some reason Martin makes me want to keep listening.
Mesmerising.
Watching this reminded me of the videos of Glenn Gould singing along to Bach.
Remember too that Chopin was a 90lb weakling and played a Pleyel which did not have the power of a modern piano.
Hope this guy is the eventual winner
I do hope so. I just love this whole his performance. Makes us laugh and happy!!
WoW The Fazioli sounds like, how Chopin would want his compositions should sound . It sounds almost like, its made for this kind of interpretations and transforms us to that time period . So happy to see the Fazioli's on main stages these days . By the way Martin does make his instrument sing :-) .
Simply Amazing!! He is unique
Absolutely phenomenal and masterful Pianist ! Never heard the last movement of the sonata b-minor in such an emotional flow ! BRAVO MARTIN !
Just beatiful! and feel like being in the heaven
Yes!!!!he is happy!!! That is the soul.
I've gotta say after the concerto performance today he must definitely be a contender for grande prize .....mesmerising 🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸
According to the source of twitter, as the round progresses, the classmate is worried about his throat.
I love him and this episode.
Oh, I really like like this. For me, he is somehow adding an extra dimension, I am experiencing these pieces in a deeper way. Remember his name.
Despite not being able to buy a "tie" and frequent minor stumbles, the 3rd Sonata was his strongest performance in the competition, and he rose to the occasion to express each movement with maturity, beauty, passion and excitement where needed, while avoiding unnecessary romanticism in the slow parts. The voicing and tempo in the 3rd movement was really exquisite.
do the competitors need to buy a tie?
@@vivianrfjblaw He is not into knots, he is a butterfly 🦋
@@vivianrfjblaw it was a musical pun 😉. He's actually wearing a bow tie!
20:37 - is simply amazing! No words can describe it.
Thank you! Frankly, you deserve a prize for catching that and telling us! What a confirmation for what we’ve all been thinking about this man’s artistry. It’s just so pure.
Everything about him is different. Whether you like his interpretations or not, he does bring a breath of fresh air to this competition. People like him, and that matters. It matters a lot. 😎🎹
A lovely program and the playing seemed really authentic.
So original and fresh, that Op. 45 Prelude was just beautiful.
Beautiful singing tone and emotional warmth ,great pleasure to listen to you , Congratulations !
Superb sound ! He makes the Fazioli really singing ! A pity though that he seems sometimes to search his notes ! But he has one of the best Chopin vibe of the competition I think ! The mazurkas were just brilliant ! Bravo Martin ! Will from France
Vaya, todas tus interpretaciones me maravillan!
Eres grande, Martín! Enhorabuena 💐
What a pianist!!!
Verdadero arte
Un Chopin con alma española
Браво
Wonderful! Great pianist!!
yesss hes on the final!!!
Hats off gentlemen,, a Genius!
Praying while playing. It works! Forget scales.
Music is his life~~
Me encanta!
MARTÍN GARCÍA GARCÍA -Huge Respect!
He is very unique. Will he be in the next round? In my humble opinion, no because his playing is not traditional and as spotless as a competition should. The judges might not like his interpretation. But at least, he's not forgetable and his career might blossom more outside the competition.
I like how humorous his Watlz is. A very fun and up lifting ending.
He already has been selected for the finals actually
Well guess what : he passed to the finals
@@pianomilan8863 That's suprisingly good then. Maybe, this year, the judges want to look for some fresh idea of how Chopin should be interpreted.
I find his style not suited for lyrical Chopin.
He's more suited for Rachmaninoff.
@@annettefallon1652 We can all have different opinions. I also don't find his intepretation of lyrical Chopin my cup of tea. But I appreciate his freshness and new approach to something very timeless like Chopin music.
A very good rendition of the first prelude (no. 17), which I think is one of the most successful compositions by Chopin, alongside many of the Mazurkas, Barcarolle, and some of the etudes.
He has the bel canto voice- on the piano! Really nice!
Chopin in the style of Granados - Charming!
Absolutnie fenomenalny artysta🎶
Maravilloso.Gracias🌹
Congratulation to Martin for winning Gold Medal at Cleveland international competition , for winning Bronze medal , and Special Prize for The Best Performance of Chopin Concerto at Chopin international Competition .

Pan Fryderyk Chopin jest dumą Polski! Cały naród jest z niego dumny! 🇵🇱
WOW!
Garcia jest najlepszy
ravissant! sublime! passion - poésie - structure!!
I thought that this performance was the best in the third round.
Your piano concerto is very beautiful. I heard it many times. You've been a genius since you were little.
Best Sonata ever
Absolutely. I think I have heard it more than 40 times now. Love it. 😇
@@kerstinl8519 same! I keep coming back to this video and his playing! Mr. Garcia is such a special artist. I can't stop myself from smiling when I listen to his music lol.
Grande
It is Tom Hanks in What About Bob? at the piano! I think he is the most musically-inspired of the finalists, but I do think he needs to work on his singing... Wish he'd played the entire set of 24 Preludes. The taste was better than what the others brought in their totality.
Bill Murray? 😉
@@paulmetdebbie447 yeah, that’s the one!!!
