Great insight again. I should add that we should video ourselves playing matches too. I was shocked to find out how our court movement are so different from what we thought we are doing

I've just bought a ball machine and started filming myself - both essential if, like me, you're rubbish. The machine is a tireless hitting partner that will let you practice and practice and the filming will highlight everything you think you're doing correctly but actually are not. By filming yourself regularly you should see a progression from being a stiff plank (me, today) to a Roger Nadal (me, next year)

Thanks Ian! This really hit my problem. 10 years of hitting wrong, much like your example, and a coach that said I probably need about 10 lessons to correct my forehand.... 2 YEARS later and I am still falling back to my old habits because I mainly play matches and only once a week coached. There is definitely an improvement BUT yes, it could have gone much faster if I would have followed your advice. 🙂

Hi Ian, have you ever done any videos with any experts about people with permanent specific permanent injuries trying to work around them and enjoy tennis at similar levels before?
In case I’ve lost complete use of right eye (was dominant) as a righty playing with a single handed backhand at maybe 3.0-3.5).
A lot of online information seems almost anecdotal as opposed to specific when I’m trying to find how to manage expectations and create a path of improvement.
Thanks in advance. Probably not an easy question to answer lol.

I use YT videos to learn not to do in tennis and also who not listen too! The best thing players can do is record themselves and watch the videos of themselves. But the key thing is to actually get out on the courts and practice and play.

I need to learn the maximum ranges of my shots............so that then I will understand how much speed & direction can I cut down on so that I can hit "in" shots.

I have zero connection to Essential Tennis (in fact, I live in Japan). If your coach is not interested in using video--find a coach who is! I have used video on several occasions and have been shocked every time. I couldn't believe how the image in my head and the image caught on camera were so polar-opposite. It was astounding!
