    I’m a tennis coach and I was very curious how you were gonna teach the serve. You know most of the beginners will struggle with that Continental grip lol but I appreciate your effort to inform everyone the correct grip. I’m just gonna send this video to all my students. Venus said so!

    • @melinakerifan
      @melinakerifan 2 года назад +3

      I recently tried continental grip as a beginner and the ball goes crazy to the left 😭😭😭 will it get easier with experience even for a casual player?

      Do you seriously think anyone's going to listen to you? LOL

    • @TennisComplete
      @TennisComplete 2 года назад +2

      @@melinakerifan that's perfectly normal and probably happens to every other beginner that tries the continental grip for their serve. You're on the right track though! If the serve is going crazy to the left then make sure at impact your strings are facing the front. To do that with a continental grip you must pronate. (research that in the tennis serve) It takes from practice but we all start with that frying pan grip and learn to serve correctly! Good luck and enjoy the game.

    • @sfowler1100
      @sfowler1100 2 года назад +3

      this is very debatable... A the club level there isn't that much difference using the continental compared to the eastern grip. More over, most players are weekend warriors and do not feel comfortable using the continental grip. It does produce a bit more of a slice serve on the Eastern grip then Continental so that adds control. If you're just out having fun playing once a week and not striving for anything over 3.5 The Eastern Grip is just fine. At this level getting the ball in is the biggest priority and consistently. Most beginner players pancake the serve, so they don't hit on edge anyways. :)

    • @TennisComplete
      @TennisComplete 2 года назад

      @@sfowler1100 I agree! that's why I was curious to see how Venus was gonna teach this audience. I'm assuming it was geared towards beginners. Using the correct grip and technique is very hard for beginners to get. Sometimes the pancake grip serve is the best way to gain confidence getting the serve in and playing tennis. Teaching tennis is not easy! So many factors come into play! lol

    My daughter and I are just signing up for tennis lessons this week. I took lessons for 3 summers as a kid, so I basically remember nothing LOL. This was extremely helpful!!! Wasn't sure about the feet and the baseline. I didn't think your feet were allowed to cross the baseline at all until after the serve when you get ready to receive (rather than having your feet end up crossing the baseline at the end of your serve). Also, sooooo helpful talking about the grip, definitely didn't remember to be using an eastern grip. I absolutely love you Venus!!! I remember watching you play when I was growing up! You're 5 years older than me, so I remember talking about how I wanted your confidence as an athlete while I was at tennis lessons (I was actually a gymnast growing up, and I was confident for the most part, but I hated the uneven bars. So I tried to channel your confidence whenever I got to the uneven bars!!!). My daughter is 15 by the way, so we're really just wanting to learn tennis as a fun hobby to do together and to make new friends. She was big-time into softball from 6-14, and now volleyball is her main love (been playing for 4.5 years now). ANYWAYS - We adore you, Venus! Much love from Knoxville, TN!

    I logged on to my computer to find a video on removing the electrical housing from my motorcycle and much to my surprise I see Venus teaching serving. I decided to watch and I actually learned something. I can't wait to apply this to my game. I am going to watch a few more tutorials from you as well. Thank you

    Hello Venus. I am writing from Turkey. I was happy to watch your video. I am 37 years old and I started tennis very late, but my goal is just to be an example for my children for this sport and to play and spend time with them. I hope I can keep up with them with the things I have learned by watching your videos. regards

    In one take, Venus covers all the basics clearly and precisely, explaining the reasoning for everything she does. That’s not easy to do. I’m sure she’s gotten a lot of coaching, but hasn’t done much teaching herself, so she’s a natural at it. What a nice person she is.

      Yeah, and she doesn't joke around but also tries to appeal to all skill levels. She made an ice cream simile/metaphor, but it wasn't some joke to get popular. Everything was just smooth all the way through just like her serve.

    You are exactly like my coach in Legion Baseball (more years ago than I'm going to admit here). When he'd work with us individually, he's spend about a 1/3 of the time telling us what to do and 2/3 of the time telling us WHY we needed to do what he was demonstrating.
    I don't know if that works for everybody, but he was the best baseball coach I'd ever had. If I were at an age where I might consider taking up tennis (I'm not), I would definitely go for your whole set of tutorials.

I'm in my 50s and have been playing since I was about 8 years old, and I had never been taught the basics of serving in such a complete, step-by-step manner from beginning to end.
