I don think I could ever give up my non-rev benefits, i've seen 42 countries and counting, and flown a little over 350 flights in the last 5 years working in the airline industry, for leisure travel, let alone the travel my family and companions have been able to do. I remember ID90'ing on BA to London just to get a flight on the Queen of the skies...also I remember doing countless trips to Hawaii....just because I could. As a 43 year old united pilot I can tell you that all of your information is very well spoken and right on the money. Also the production quality of this video is great just like the rest of your videos. Keep up the great work and fly safely.
What are your thoughts on the 757/767 retiring? I’m 18 right now and my plan is to hopefully fly the fleet for a long time, but I’ve been getting news about them getting replaced. Swayne isn’t really answering my question on this one so
@@anabilrahmangaming7622 The 757 should be retired by the end of the decade. The 767 united is not retiring anytime soon. I fly for the 777 and 787 and if I were you I would fly for those later in your career. Just a safer bet.
@@anabilrahmangaming7622 I'll be honest with you. It's not up to you. You are only 18, so by the time you are at a major, the 757 and 767 will be on their way to retirement (if they are not already retired). You can't choose a fleet that's no longer flying. However, you can apply to cargo airlines as the 757 and 767 will have at least another decade or two there. But at the end of the day, they will eventually be retired before you reach retirement age. By then, you can either fly the new generation of planes or quit. Your choice!
Hi Swayne, I am Justin Grotte, I am a huge fan of yours and I watch your videos faithfully. My Dad works at United Airlines as an aircraft mechanic. I want to be in aviation I took the FAA first-class medical exam and I didn't pass it. It was my dream to be a pilot. We travel a lot its hard now flying stand by and all we go to is El Paso Texas and Minneapolis St Paul.
Another great video. I'm a 40 year veteran of Southwest Airlines and we do not base the standby list by seniority but on a first come basis, like you describe. My dad worked for United for 50 years and like you said, they do it by seniority. There are perks to both systems, but since I am so senior, I kinda wish we would switch, haha.
I'm the "registered friend" with flight benefits from my dear friend, a 25 year United employee. Boy, is it a game. In the old days with 747s there was almost always space. Now, we're lucky to get the worst seat...any seat, and we're grateful to get it! I'm hoping to go to Buenos Aires next week! I'm still thrilled for this benefit.
I have a question, do you also pay the flights if your friend book for you. She don’t need to come or join with you but can she book a flight & you will just pay for that flight?
Great video. For grumpy old Aviators like me, the best place to travel is home. When loading up the whole tribe of hooligans, I buy regular tickets. With kids, efficient is key.
I found you on Sam's profiles, you are extremely young, 25. It's probably more twisted and stressful than it looks, but I'm definitely ready to tag along. Thanks for being so open and working into a RUclips career. Cool feller.
Great information Swayne! I am at a partner flight school and am seriously considering the Aviate program. Your videos are very helpful on getting information and I love the quality of them too!
Don't do aviate! We get a lot of their students because my flight school is 70% cheaper and we have quality CFI's. Those CFI's at aviate have zero care for any student and it shows.
@@Anirbansutubeid a school with no airline partnership, offers 61 and 141 with CFI’s that have been at the school for more than 2 years. Try Arizona Flight Training Center, the owner specifically will not hire moonlighters or airline focused CFI’s and their reputation shows. Look it up.
In the old days at United some Customer Service People would cheat and let their friends and family get priority over other employees with higher seniority until the company put their standby list on smart phones so every one can see who gets priority to board the flight but I am not saying technology is 100% foolproof I am quite sure there is still cheating going on
Thanks for making all of these im trying to figure out where to go and what to do to make it to an airline one day. I'm a still a teenager and am going to try to get my PPL in high school next year and your videos give me the hope and confidence i can do it.
I worked at ATA, we had a company credit card we’d use to buy Y-fare tickets to position around the world positive space. We’d pocket the Y-fare tickets and then non rev to get there for cheap. Some of us had a hundred fully transferable y-Fare tickets for nearly anywhere, positive space, many First Class. I never sold mine, others did, but it made holiday travel easy as. Crew tags on your carry on meant free bottles of champagne and wine, British Airways girls once gave me a whole box of Cadbury drinking chocolate when I said I love it.
I worked at twa and panam in the 80s and went to europe on many weekends ..living a grand life of living in manhattan and flying all over the world in my 20s
I retired from a major airline and non-rev'd many times. I wasn't flight ops or inflight so I didn't get the ability to jumpseat. It was a blast when I was younger but as I got older and my schedule was more rigid I started to buy my flights. However I did got to Ireland, Canada, the Caribbean, Vegas, Phoenix, and California multiple times. Can't tell you how many times I got amazing first class seats but also can't tell you how many nights I spent sleeping in an airport. Great memories of my youth and will give me stories to tell for years.
Always great to see your videos, Swayne. They are always informative and well done. I also enjoy seeing your smiling face and hearing of your accomplishments. I'm proud to be part of your RUclips family.
Swayne, That you for explaining the types of non-rev flying that you can do as an employee. That is neat that you as a pilot can ride in the jump seat in the cockpit, even on other airlines with the agreements. It must be neat to compare the cabins and cockpits of the different airlines and airplanes that you get to fly on. I have had the chance to sit in the the cockpit of one of the first Untied 737 Max 8 planes when it when into service and the pilots were telling me about some of the differences in the Max Cockpit from the NG Cockpit, like the Heads-up displays. They told me that they weren’t functional yet because they hadn’t rolled out the training yet to the pilots, but that they were going to become a standard feature of them going forward. Thank you for sharing. Ken
Wow this is crazy. I just tried my first standby flight being with the United Aviate program. There I was the only Standby to Orlando yesterday and now there’s 15 others on standby. I could’ve used this video 3 hours ago lol
I used to work for a major airline and I rarely used the non-rev benefit (maybe 1 time with employer airline & 1 time on zed fare out of my 3 year in B6). It is a challenge especially you see the flight have over 50 seats open but by the time you get to the gate the flight is full. When I had vacation I just purchased a flight just so I dont stress myself and not waste any time on my precious Vacation time.
Nonrev is a game, and not everyone is willing to be flexible to play that game... often going on vacation means not knowing where you are going until you get a seat!
I spent most of last week in London with my son and daughter-in-law. He is an airline employee (an FO) and we flew on ZED fares. Here’s the best part. We flew on three different airlines, picking our flights according to who had seats on the days we wanted to travel. An added perk, the employees of the other airlines treated us like family. One ops agent on a competitor made sure the three of us sat together, and the FO on that flight invited us into the cockpit for a look around when he found out my son flies a Boeing and we had just flown with this guy on an Airbus. Thank you for creating this outstanding video. I found it because I’m trying to explain to coworkers how I can fly so often and on absolutely no advance notice. This video sums it up perfectly and I’ll link it to them. By the way I’d love to know what video editor software you’re using😊.
Hi I have a question, I’m registered friend also from an employee. How much normally we have to pay for tickets? Just curious Thanks for any information
My aunt is a retired flight attendant for United and I've gotten to be her registered friend multiple times. My favorite trip was a 3 day trip to Amsterdam. I was able to get business class round-trip from Chicago. I'm not sure if I'll do it anymore because my wife doesn't like the stress and unpredictability of being a pass rider, which is fair haha
How much the tickets if your aunt book for you? I’m just curious coz we have a family friend works at airlines & we have to pay each person per tickets.
Man, I wish I had this video two months ago before I started my internship! As I write this I’m in the United Club at EWR, after non-revving from Geneva in Polaris. Each flight is a learning opportunity, and NRSA travel has been both the most amazing part of working for an airline and the most stressful/anxiety-invoking part! Love your videos as always and I hope to see you around the CPO!
Wow you're a handsome pilot lol. Also, thank you so much for that inside information because I just got hired for one of the airlines as a CSA and was curious as to how these things worked.
i flew standby for the first time this week and its awesome not having to pay for travel, but you really gotta see how many seats are there the day of to really make a good call on where you're going
Excellent content, as always. Been following you for a couple of years now, and you have been an inspiration to my own journey. You are having an impact!
All but non-existent seats available in/to canada since covid comeback. Hotel stays due to bumping pretty much burn up any savings, then you end up buying a last minute revenue ticket just to get home. All in all ends up costing way more than just buying a pos ticket in the first place.
I used to do airline employee travel back in the 80's - we called it Sub Load through Interline then. The biggest thing was getting back - I remember some very difficult journeys where load sheets changed at the last minute and I had to travel on other airlines to non-home ports and then make it over land to get back to work on time. Being late back from a sub load interilne trip was a huge no-no! I think on-line access will make seeing load factors in real time easier and hence offer more options than running from airline desk to airline desk to try to find someone to give you a lift! But HUGE fun always! I miss those happy carefree days (also because they were pre 9/11 jumpseat travel was pretty much an open affair).
I just got a job offer at Southwest. I didnt realize they were check-in based until i looked into it. Considering i checked in 24 hours on the dot on a buddy pass before, no wonder i had no problems getting on. Revived my airplane itch and thus i applied. Im am so excited to work on planes again and travel the country.
Oh for the good old days when planes weren't full. I worked PT for an AA regional partner and my home airport was SAV. Of course we were behind the mainline employees whenever listing. As a part timer, I worked a few hours 5 days a week with Monday and Tuesday off, terrible days for a short non rev trip. This is the perk for a low paying job that was kind of fun though and kept me in shape. I think I only really got one trip in the end.
Very well stated vid..yes, it’s a wonderful privilege..every day at work somebody was coming from somewhere…visited friends and family stateside and internationally so many times..mentally one never feels trapped or constricted which in itself is a great stress reliever, so God bless my airline and job 🙏🏻👏✈️
I non rev twice around the world twice in 7 weeks, and 6 weeks for each trip. All standby, and just carry on luggage, on the airline I work for, and ZED. Total cost was around $2000 including Airbnb lodging. Had a great time. Unfortunately, covid made me stop.
Keep in mind, this is a benefit specific to US airlines. What's common on many non US airlines, they are given a certain number of passes per year an no free non rev. And they usually don't get access to premium cabins. Economy only
Best decision ever from United to bring you in (earned by you, of course). Nice they're allowing you to keep similar editing style to what you've always had, but I assume "helping" maybe some with the production.
I actually do all of the shooting and editing solo! That said, they've been incredibly helpful getting approvals in place when needed. I'm really hopeful videos like this inspire more people to become pilots.
I am an SB3 on Delta.Although I flew around the world and US growing up,I gave up trying to non Rev in 2015 after it took me rearranging my itinerary to leave early to beat future flights overbooked with no chance for a dependent of a retiree. I managed to get to SLC but getting to New Orleans was not easy. I finally made it to ATL,which always has a few 757s flying to MSY every night. Even they filled up and I made it,first class to Gulfport,Mississippi. I got a ride home then picked my bags up in New Orleans the next day. Like an idiot I turned down the option of a redeye to Atl from SLC the night I got out of Montana. But I needed to sleep and I can't sleep on planes. I tried after the pandemic and was told it was really hard for nonrevs.since 2016 I fly delta and pay with the skymiles card.I know the network well and just go on Google flights a few months before I go on vacation and get good deals and build up miles. I will try to nonrev to Argentina or Chile in a year but I have a job I hav3 to be back for.and even giving me an xtra day for cancelations or whatever isn't always enough. I missed work because of weather as a paying passenger as well as being bumped as a non rever, including my last trip to Ireland in 1995. Non revving is an amazing perk and I think God my parents were Delta employees. I benefited so much by being able to travel and experience other cultures and being able to visit relatives in New York and Georgia like I was driving to a friend's house it was so easy to nonrev back in the 70s and 80s. It is much more difficult now but just plan ahead and have backup options and it is one hell of a perk!
I always enjoy watching your videos Swayne! I'm current in my first semester at UND, came in as a commercial aviation major but switching up to engineering and I'm gonna finish the rest of my ratings after I graduate college. Your videos give fantastic information on the job and industry. Keep it up!
I flew with my dad on Delta in 2007, back in the apparently-crappy wavy gravy days. We were stuck finding a flight from ATL to IND. Instead we *B A R E L Y* hopped on a flight to FWA(Ft Wayne) a couple hours drive away from Indianapolis. We were *RUSHING* through those Atlanta terminals. Stressful at the time but makes for good memories years later 😆
I really need your videos right now because your videos motivate me from inside because I didn`t do well in my examination.(not in mood to put more efforts)
Years ago when I worked for an ATL based airline, I had a friend work in RES who was my inside for letting me know if I was going to make a flight and on a couple occasions when I had to get home for work might have been bumped up to a S2A.
I used to fly on my mother's United buddy passes back in the day and this is what we used to do. When you get close to the day you want to travel start calling res and they will tell you how the flights look for that evening and the following day. If the evening flight was wide open you would then call the automated voice line and book that trip and make you way on over to the airport. Otherwise you would check back in the next morning and go from there. First and last flights are usually good as well as midweek flights and Saturday afternoons and evenings. Also, you always have to dress to impress as you might be placed in first class which includes a delicious meal and free wine. But once you get used to traveling this way it is a breeze and a huge perk, even for ground crews. The only place that everyone is told to be cautious about is Honolulu as it can be a huge challenge on getting out of there at any time. That might be different nowadays. As always Swayne, I love watching your videos and I cannot wait to some stories from the 75 or 76 when you are the pilot flying and how it feels on take off when you get to push that throttle all the way back. Thanks again
Back in the day with Delta in Boston we had to dress up and wear suits.....all changed now....we also got great deals on hotels/resorts, car rentals and other fun hospitality related things...great times!!
any tricks of the trade? i was thinking, I will search for international flights with the most business and first class seats available and fly there? i also love the lounges at aiports like centurion. are you able to enjoy the louinges before your initial flights or because you don't have a seated ticket yet, you cannnot enter the lounge, meaning that can you get your standby ticket early so you have enought time to enjoy the lounges or are you always the last one to get tickets?
@@mistyluv261 Well choose the destination based on the loads. That way you can get better seats but also keep in mind weather, IROPS, aircraft swaps, etc also come into play as well. It’s always constantly checking the loads and conditions. And there’s a certain group of people with higher seniority love to list 15 minutes prior to departure so you need to factor that in as well.
Where's your favorite place to travel?

@@ronanborus4067 eh I’m still gonna go for the 757/767. Not really a fan of the newer generation planes to be honest
@@anabilrahmangaming7622 Completely understand. Wish you the best of luck.
Very informative, glad to see United permits your videos; great for employee recruitment. 😎
This is stuff you never learn about, but always wondered. Thanks!
Love the videos! Can’t wait to become an airline pilot!
Great post my friend. I appreciate all the information you are sharing here.
Thanks for sharing your advice 😊
Do all Southwest employees have access to ZED fare travel?
@@rickyism1576 yes we do
I'm the "registered friend" with flight benefits from my dear friend, a 25 year United employee.
Awesome vid as always, Swayne!
Thanks Cole!
Your videos and content are always awesome enjoy seeing the world for virtual free
When i worked for Envoy as a Ramp Agent, I took a 787 from O'hare to Charlotte NC in Business Class as there was seats available! it was amazing.
I found you on Sam's profiles, you are extremely young, 25. It's probably more twisted and stressful than it looks, but I'm definitely ready to tag along. Thanks for being so open and working into a RUclips career. Cool feller.
You make good videos

Of course, think like a passenger is important. Best of luck and keep flying.
Your videos are my all time favorite
Great information Swayne! I am at a partner flight school and am seriously considering the Aviate program. Your videos are very helpful on getting information and I love the quality of them too!
Thanks Dillon! Glad it's helping you!
Don't do aviate! We get a lot of their students because my flight school is 70% cheaper and we have quality CFI's. Those CFI's at aviate have zero care for any student and it shows.
@@Stupidboi1 what flight school do you recommend then?!
That's the goal of these videos! Rooting for you :)
This is exhilerating to watch. Every Upload gets better and better!
I work for air Canada as a baggage handler as a part time job- pays not great but the benefits are unreal!
Thanks for another Great Video, Swayne! Traveling is my favorite thing to do, and traveling on a plane makes it 10x better!
Great content, impressed with your level of maturity !!.
@@brianbeach3024 Agree...it's more like North East, South East, Upper Midwest, Lower Midwest, etc.....lets just find out where our vacation is at...
Beautifully explained Swayne, Happy Landings
I’m at CTP training for SkyWest airlines now, and am SO excited to soon have these privileges!! Love the videos :)
Congratulations! Enjoy them!
I'm a big fan of Flight Diary too! I don't have the same flight map you do, but it's always cool to see someone else use it :)
I respect Swayne decisions to go to Poland. I have been to Poland and have family in Warsaw and outside Warsaw.
Glad you got a good seat on the 767! See you in the CPO 👏🏻

That's awesome, Justin! Thank you so much
Great info Swayne. Thanks for sharing.
All but non-existent seats available in/to canada since covid comeback. Hotel stays due to bumping pretty much burn up any savings, then you end up buying a last minute revenue ticket just to get home. All in all ends up costing way more than just buying a pos ticket in the first place.
I love these vids keep it up!
Thank you for your videos Next year I start at the United Aviate Academy!!!
Very exciting! Congratulations!
I'm now officially a Southwest CoHeart

Exciting. I recently started working for an airline (in Canada) that has a ZED agreement with United. Really looking forward to trying it out!
We'll be happy to have you!
This was super helpful especially for new FAs thank you !!!
The video quality stays consistent ❤
I non rev twice around the world twice in 7 weeks, and 6 weeks for each trip. All standby, and just carry on luggage, on the airline I work for, and ZED. Total cost was around $2000 including Airbnb lodging. Had a great time. Unfortunately, covid made me stop.
I love your videos! Very informative amazing quality!!! Been watching since you flew in Hawaii
Keep in mind, this is a benefit specific to US airlines. What's common on many non US airlines, they are given a certain number of passes per year an no free non rev. And they usually don't get access to premium cabins. Economy only
Good to see you in my home city of Kyoto. Love your vids, hopefully I can become a pilot do the same you are doing one day!

United lucky to have you as an ambassador
You explained this so well ! Thanks Swayne 💯
I always enjoy watching your videos Swayne! UND in Phoenix overcrowds the airspace.
I really need your videos right now because your videos motivate me from inside because I didn`t do well in my examination.(not in mood to put more efforts)
amazing video, as always ! So informative and I love it
Thank you!!

@@mistyluv261 Well choose the destination based on the loads. That way you can get better seats but also keep in mind weather, IROPS, aircraft swaps, etc also come into play as well.
