- Being a dance teacher I am often analyzing dance, breaking down steps, creating new patterns, learning new steps... I love it, but I also like to take time every week to put on some music and dance, just to dance, no strings attached. Feeling the music, not worrying about form, quality, just being in the moment, expressing who I am in that moment and how I am feeling the music.
These are clips of such moments, me putting on a playlist late at night and just dancing for myself. Since this month my blog is about musicality, I decided to share these clips of me improvising to different songs to show how even using many of the same steps you can express the different feelings of each song by how you use each step.
It's good to forget everything and just dance at the level that you are today and give yourself the freedom to be and express yourself. What you do doesn't matter, you are dancing for you, it's
doing it that counts. Fear use to get in my way (yes... I know hard to believe it, but I only started dancing at the age of 21 and I use to freeze when someone mentioned dance) and I have seen the
same in many of my students. You get where you want to go by taking steps to get there. What you see in the video is the result of 14 years of dancing. So, you may not look anything like me
the first day (I didn't look like that either my first day) but dance in your own way at your own level. Over time with practice and learning techniques, I promise you will be able to dance
exponentially better. Start with simple things like walking with feeling and musicality.
