Tbh, a therapists employed by an institution (university, company, even military) are usually pretty bad at their job, so it's realistic. They have a conveyor belt of students/employees to go through, so any individual care is out of the window. Most of the time, their job is just to 'motivate' people to continue their pursuits and to screen them for obvious red flags.
Yep. As a public healthcare worker who needed therapy and was given the prefecture therapist, I can guarantee it's not even realistic enough. He could be WAY worse and still be realistic
@@xenato Oh yeah, I know. I remember a few years back, my friend went to the equivalent of Veterans Affairs therapist for depressive episodes, and the therapist told her, I kid you not, that the simplest solution is to get married. My jaw dropped
One thing I really really love about Naoki Urasawa's works (Monster, 20th Century Boy, Billy the Bat) is how he created various side characters/random strangers that the main character often bump into in his long arduous journey, that would at first hesitate but eventually willingly to go for an extra miles for the main character. As if it is part of his philosophy, that kindness is everywhere to be found. Herrrn Maurer is just one such character. There will be more to come.
OH NO "I'LL QUIT SMOKING" IS 100% A DEATH FLAG AAAAAAAAAAH
あなたがこのリアリティAnimeに夢中になっている事が、私は嬉しく思います。
今後ももっとリアリティあるドラマが展開されます。😊
Your reaction to the cliffhanger is so real😭
I know! Reliving this vicariously through his reactions.
The characters in this anime were so real, and the fact that there are more of them and my favorite character is not yet introduced
I know we here are a few episodes behind, but I can promise that you will love this series more and more as you go on. As you said, this is the most realistic show you ever watched, and that makes in more real, more scary than anything!
I agree, every character is or will be so good that will keep you interested in them or rooting for them. And there is still more, this is just the beginning, you’ll see.
6:50 comparing a nuclear weapon to a 10y old child is wild lol
The duty of a doctor is to save the life of their patient. There may be question as to who Doctor Tenma's patient should have been, but no question on whether that patient should be saved. We probably also ought not create a world where doctors have to consider the fringe chance that the patient they save turns out to be a serial killer.
The chase begins... As you think you know more about him, you realise you have more questions than before. The plot thickens with every episode ✨️
"Johan hunting" is my favorite hobby.
Great reaction and analysis of this episode. Honestly, I don't know how you can resist the urge to immediately watch the next episode (if I remember correctly, the first time I saw this masterpiece, I watched 6-8 episodes a day, although it helped that this series is one of the two anime series that have a dub in my native language (Spanish) with a quality comparable to the original Japanese).
I can't wait to watch your next Monster reactions.
He is loving it!
This is the highlight of my week now!
I believe he would have been responsible either way, at least on an Ethical way, if not on a Legal one. Being a part of an organization should not make your conscience feel free of ethical responsibility. I bet you are familiar with the concept of "The Banality of Evil". The take you defend on this video regarding individual responsibility vs organizational responsibility is exactly the one that led Eichmann to follow through with the orders he was given. One should ALWAYS listen to his conscience first and foremost. I'm not saying one should always act according to it, but if you do choose to compromise your conscience you should at least acknowledge the responsibility of going against it.
That's at least my take. It's interesting to notice we see this issue from completely opposite perspectives. Guess it's the D&D dilemma of Chaotic Good (my take) vs Lawful Good (your take)
I'm thankful as always for your insights and reactions btw! Keep up the good work!
I can't wait for you to finish this show! I'm so excited to see your reactions
didn't know Germany had their own uniformity phone booth too, always thought it was an English thing.
Even if we thought we should go back we just can't.
You never step into the same river twice.
The Internet Archive has an upscale of Monster that I've been watching, I recommend it
Dont you need to manually add subs to every one ? Dont want to make it more annoying for him to watch a show than it is. His choice tho ofc
@AdderallFiend Nope the subs are already included in the file.
@@0ptriX I just read the description lol theyre soft-coded into the file my bad, i just saw no subs playin the first time I checked and forgot about it
I think you might perhaps be a bit too harsh on the psychologists on the show. People who are in their 40s and 50s in the show got their education 20-30 years ago, in the 60s and 70s. The field was much different then and it has come a long way in the past 60 years or so.
Might be, but I am not commenting "in universe" in that moment, nowadays he should be sacked :D
Subjective morality doesn't allow for a true absolute evil (in this case: something everyone agrees on), there'll always be the possibility (and probability) that someone will be different in opinion (even if that's a niche minority). - I also would note that subjective morality cannot truly be taken seriously, because even those who agree on something can be made to change their minds, it's a rocky foundation that crumbles easily.
It's really only something that exists in an Objective Morality framework, one in which the morals are from outside our reasoning, ability to change, feelings, etc.
Something that's 'Absolutely' true regardless.
He's a standard liberal that upholds post WW2 liberal consensus. And he understands liberalism intellectually - it's not like he's a normie that's just regurgitating the talking points. So even though you're correct there's no point trying to convince this guy. I'm fairly certain he knows it's contradictory. Liberalism is radical immorality, it is forced to recognize as valid and orthodox any belief that springs from the exercise of private judgment. Therefore does it finally arrive, by force of its own premises, at the conclusion that one creed is as good as another. They usually hide behind a vague utilitarianism they can always variably interject and data points to support it. For someone as intelligent as him, it is intentional. There's no way he doesn't know what you're saying here. There is a correct answer; that's just obvious. You cannot uphold P and its negation in conjunction. But of course that postulates an intended design , hierarchy, and therefore order; and people fear that because of the conclusions it draws.
@@TheGreatDetectiveKnows Whether or not that's true about our reactor, I definitely wanted to say this (what I said) since the subject was brought up both in the anime and his reaction.
The ball is in his court, as it were, to react to the comment however he wishes.
You know, with saving Johan Tenma worked himself into trolley problem.
Ironically it was one of tests to spot out people with psychopathic tendencies, because they most likely pull lever, unbothered by scenario, or even gloating at thought of being one, who kill one person, over saving 5 other. We can say, ironically, Tenma by being morality poster, even if his intentions were opposite, did same - pulled lever. But unlike person without moral compass, he now is dealing with consequences of it. 😊
Ps. I fully agree with You about responsibility of upper positions. I refused promotion two times, as I exactly prefered less money, less responsibility scenario, over constantly thinking about how each small decission can come back bite me in a ass. 💯😅
Dead by daylight mentioned! I love that game
