I enjoyed listening to your patches here :-) JX-3P… my 1st poly synth, purchased in the fall of '83. God i loved that thing! I've got 45 synths now (52 if you count the TX-816 as 8 synths)… and of those I have some favorites for sure, but none enriched my life the way the 1st 3 years with the JX-3P did. I haven't had my original JX-3P since '89, but i have an MKS-30… so I've got that sound covered.
Thanks, I forgot how nice the organ patches on this were. Crazy thing, I forget how this was possible, but somehow, through midi input and perhaps some type of mod I purchased (many, many) years ago, the JX I once had, long since sold, could respond to incoming velocity! It was a next level experience hearing the JX with velocity influencing its filters, resonance, etc. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Just picked up a JX-3P with the Kiwi 3P mod a few months ago and a Retroaktiv controller and having a ton of fun with it. My Juno-60 needs a rebuild, so this was the cheaper alternative and I love how fat the sounds are. Still kicking myself for selling my Jupiter 8 in 1996, but this synth has so much potential I'm just starting to discover that is finally making up for that decision. Thanks for sharing your patches. They sound great!
Yesterday I was comparing the rolandcloud JX3P vs my hardware and was shocked how good the plugin is. Ronald nailed that one. You can make them indistinguishable
This thing is seriously underrated. It's only downside is editing but I got Midi Quest 13 Pro yesterday because the Kiwi update is too complex; It does the job. Never selling this thing. A noteworthy remark is the filter resonance mod. Google for it. It comes down to turn some screws on the boards to get more resonance. I felt the filter had too little of it. I love it now.
The synth strings on this are great. I did the detune between the 2 oscillators to create a chorus effect, then added chorus on the controller , and ran it through a Roland delay in stereo for even a thicker chorus. Nothing sounds like it.
The 80s Fan ... that's awesome...you must have been living the rockstar life to even own those two back then. I was drooling over a 150.00 casio then!! lol
synthartist69 Not really, my band mostly played cheesy ballads so my sound pallette was mostly soft pads. I bought the Juno in 1985 for about FF6500 (£650) and the JX a year later for about FF4000 (I never liked it much). At the time, everybody wanted a DX7 and fairly recent analog polysynths were appearing on the second-hand market. I later replaced them both with a JX8P+PG800 and a Korg DW8000. When I moved to England in 1990, I let them both go for a (partly broken) Korg M1. I still can't forgive myself!
I know that feeling! I remember in the late 80's everyone wanted the next best piano sound with a digital lcd. That was state of the art..... people were almost throwing away analogs.... unreal
My first synth was the Juno 106! It was delivered to my local music store on a Friday afternoon (brand new) and I made the commitment that afternoon to buy it. They offered it for $1500 with a Peavey guitar amp to plug it into. My mom co-signed on a loan so I could get it and then I spent two years working a part-time job to pay it off. I was 15 at the time. I had to trade it for a Casino CZ101 a few years later when I joined the Navy due to a lack of space on my ship. Now, I have a JX3P, JX8P and a Fantom G6, but still haven't been able to replace my 106....YET! I sure miss her.
Nicely done!! I'm a newbie to analog patch creation, so it's cool to hear all you've done here! (With a recent update to my System-8, I suddenly find myself with a JX-3P emulator in hand, so I need to put in some serious time to see what I can extract from it!)
Nice patches. I've tried the VST version. I was surprised to hear stepping during the "1984" sweep patch. I've heard that can happen with analog synths, but I generally wouldn't expect it.
My only gripe with this synth is the poor midi implementation and the not having velocity. I tried the jx3p plugin and being able to affect the filter with velocity is sooooo nice. But it is really unique, and very underrated for bass
@synthartist69 Wow! My JX-3P never sounded so good! I really need to dig in and edit my patches like that. I just struggle to find the time. I need to do the same with my JX-8P!! :D Great video and patches!!
Shame there is no way to get these patches, I'd love to try them on my jx-3p. I was going to sell mine but now I don't think I can possibly do it, especially after the tom sawyer part and the supertramp patch.
I had one of these for a short time my Prophet 08 can get all the same sounds and more with the extra mod routings , dual arpeggio's , sequencer , stack/split mode and I can recreate chorus with many modulation routings.
From your patches, would you say that the jx3p is not thin compared to the Juno as many people say on forums, provided you know what you're doing with the programming?
It's thinner than the Juno 60, not thinner than the 106. But understand that the 60 is Super Fatt with the chorus engaged! Nonetheless, the JX3p can be a great sounding synth.
sequence of 3:40 reminds me on some song, cant remember which one....sequence after that, from 4:00 sounds almost like one of Scarface movie themes when Tony Montana killed Manny
The part I am playing at 3:40 is the intro synth lead to ABACAB by Genesis. If you have never heard it you should check it out..great song with great synth parts. Thanks for watching!
I don't mind the tiny knobs too much. I don't mind it being VA because it sounds really good for a digital emulation. Not perfect, but better than nothing.
The only issue in getting the original is that you will need the editor as well. But I believe you cant use it over midi at the same time as editing the sounds when using the editor. The original sounds better but I think if you ran the boutique through a guitar pedal and maybe an analogue chorus it would sound very close.
I have both. Dreamy 😀 the boutique sounds exactly the same. Its nice to have the original synth tho, If you can afford it get both. You will need a PG-200 to get the most fun out of the original and those are hard to get and pricey. I have one and it is way more fun to program with one. The boutique is basically an updated PG-200 with JX sound engine built in 😀 with a few extra features.
Which external FX are you using? IMHO the JX-3P really begins to shine when you add a good delay, a reverb when the sound calls for it. or even another chorus. With a good phaser, it can also act as substitute for a Jarre-ish string machine. Here are demos of some of my custom patches: soundcloud.com/spotlightkid/sets/roland-jx-3p-sound-demos
Thanks! "SpotlightKid" is my account name, though, there's no patch with that name. I should recreate those patches and get them down on (virtual) paper. I had no luck with the tape interface so far.
Fantastic! Love the sounds... Thanks 👍
The first synth I laid my hands on in 1988
and still own one to this day. I modded mine a couple of years ago with the Kiwi 3P kit. Well worth it.

Espectacular demostración .
Thank you!
Great patches. Great playing. It's surprising how well it makes organ sounds.
I'm telling you, it is a huge bang for the buck synthesizer... you just have to program your own sounds :)
I watched Part 2 first. Even more enormous sounds here. Excellent sound design.
Thank you sir :) I will have a Behringer Deepmind 12 here Monday... will post some vids
synthartist69 , Behringer is going to have a OBXa clone coming out called UBXa.

Sweet sounds on the JX3P!

Thank you David. I have not experienced the JX3p plug out but in the videos I see it sounds really good!
I agree!
Good sounds
very nice patches!
Thank you!
Good Job!! A very underrated synth. Or it used to be. It can do some thick killer bass too. Mine sits above my Juno 60 too! ;-)
Thank you Patrick! Most definitely underrated :)
Same combo here. Juno 60 and Jx-3P are a great team
Absolutely!
Wow, just wow.
Thanks David!
hi i can upload this pachs if it s for sale thanks
Love it
Thank you!
Awesome
These are the real synths! Nice job.
Thank you Dennis!
I just bought a Korg KingKorg just to get those old school sounds. I used to owna Yamaha DX-27 & a Kawaii SX240.
KingKorg is a good digital synthesizer. I have one myself
That's what I hear. Is it better than the Studiologic Sledge 2.0 Polyphonic Synthesizer?
Smiled when I heard Tom Sawyer 😊
Браво...
Nice!!
Thank you!
Awesome. Just scored one and a Dtronics controller together, for half the cost of a Juno 106.
Nice patches. I've tried the VST version.
I was surprised to hear stepping during the "1984" sweep patch. I've heard that can happen with analog synths, but I generally wouldn't expect it.
I suspect there is a fast random LFO being routed to the filter cutoff on that patch.
Nice playing!
Thanks a lot!

Thank you Matthew! Of course, you will need to add a little external delay as well :)
These ARE phat! Nice patches man, I was wondering if these are up for sale? I’d love to purchase to use in my music.
awesome played....seeing this I regret selling my ex JX-3P
Thank you! Yes..I think all of us regret selling our older synths...if only we knew then what we know now!
bardzo fajne video :) pozdrawiam serdecznie
Thank you!
Shame there is no way to get these patches, I'd love to try them on my jx-3p. I was going to sell mine but now I don't think I can possibly do it, especially after the tom sawyer part and the supertramp patch.
Great patches! Available to buy/download?
Do you remember the FX you were running it through? Sounds great and PHAT, warm, and OBESE even!
Hi.... I am using a delay from my Yamaha digital recorder... Any delay with a slight slap back will work.
Can you PLEASE share how you did your Tom sawyer sound
I had one of these for a short time my Prophet 08 can get all the same sounds and more with the extra mod routings , dual arpeggio's , sequencer , stack/split mode and I can recreate chorus with many modulation routings.
These are amazing synths!! Need to find one! I don’t know why no one cares about the Super JX-10. I’m only 14 and I have a JX-10 and a DX7
I was about to sell mine... now, I think I will not! ;)
Got one of these at a swap meet. I am going to restore it.
You probably got a great deal on it!
Varynicccce
0:40 the intro to '1984'....yeah, i caught that. lol
Good catch.. thanks for stopping by!
@@synthartist69 i really enjoy your vids. have been watching them for years.
Did I hear Keep it Dark in there?

Wow so cool sound. Is it possible to purchase this presets from you? Regards
Thank you! So sorry, I no longer have the jx3p and forgot to save the sound data.
You wouldn't happen to have a Sysex file of those patches that you'd share, would you?
Man I sure don't...
what was that last song and you should make golden sun song
last song... Super Tramp... goodbye stranger
Debating whether I should by the original JX3P or the JX-03. I would get the JX-03 for its small size, but the original JX3P is fairly cheap.
I like the sound of the JX-03 to a certain extent but those tiny knobs and not being analog kill it for me.
I don't mind the tiny knobs too much. I don't mind it being VA because it sounds really good for a digital emulation. Not perfect, but better than nothing.
Well and it will be more dependable than a true JX3p
The only issue in getting the original is that you will need the editor as well. But I believe you cant use it over midi at the same time as editing the sounds when using the editor.

Hi strogon42. I typically use a stereo delay from my Yamaha AW4416 digital recorder with all my analogs....
Just visited your Soundcloud.... man, your patches sound great! I especially like Anticipation and Spotlight kid!

could you upload your tape memory? :D
I wish I could guys but I sold the JX3p..... sorry
Sorry, I not longer have the JX3p.. I should have saved those patches!!
So why did you sell the Jx3p?
Not that I didn't like it, just to buy and try out other gear.. hopefully I can grab one again someday!
Which one you prefer,106 or JX3p?
106
@@synthartist69 Why?
@@Miicrowahvei easier to control..i think it sounds slightly better. But what I really like better than both is the Juno 60
Are these patches available?
I'm sorry, no. I no longer have the JX3p.
Very sci-fi at 00:41. What do you think about JX-8p's?
I love the JX8p and JX10.. especially the synthbrass, polysynth and string patches.
Der 3P ist der Hammer klingt in machen Belangen besser als der Jupiter
Delay sold separately
