Update: in the video I say the Yamaha is same dimensions as a dreadnought, in fact the lower bout is a little wider than a standard dreadnought and the body is a little deeper too. It is true that the E3DE is a little narrower and shallower than a standard dreadnought.
I have both the LL16 and the LL16M. Both are very good guitars in my opinion. Rosewood sounds a little more detailed perhaps. The mahogany sounds a little warmer. Not much in it really. I used to favour the mahogany guitar over the rosewood guitar, but recently been playing them equally. I've owned quite a few acoustics over the years and can say that apart from a lovely Martin D18 that I no longer own that was truly wonderful, these L series Yamahas are excellent.
Really enjoyed that side-by-side comparison. Focusing mostly on the sound and not too much about the specs and just the right amount of commentary not to drown out the playing. Also, some sweet picking at the end. Thank you 👍
I agree, I wanted to like the newer Yamaha more, but the Eastman held up very well. They are both really good guitars and very affordable for being all solid wood.
Nice! Thanks for the shootout video! Indeed that Yamaha sounded so rounded... I have the Yamaha FG720 and sounds very similar but way cheaper in price ... And I have the Eastman E1D that has a lot more low end than the E3D and still very nice top end because of the Sapele
Thanks for your comment! Yamaha and Eastman are best value out there in my opinion. Yamaha especially when they changed their bracing and introduced the ARE aged tops. They are nice and loud as well as sweet sounding.
@@gorgiasxxhi , yes the e10d had the bridge reglued about 6 years ago, then it lifted again, as much to do with the top bellying out of shape. I then ran some wood glue into the crack. Dumb thing to do. So I took it to Ian Willis to fix, which he did. Ian features in a recent video. He is my go-to when the DIY becomes DDIY - don’t do it yourself 😂.
@@turrafirmaguitarchannel Ah ok. Hope it stays together this time then. I bought an E10 early this year. I really like it but it sometimes is a bit too loud when singing. I actually have looked at the LL16 as an alternative. Sounds and feel quite equal to the Eastman but is actually quite a lot cheaper right now. Hope you do a comparison with the Yamaha . 🙂
I should get the e10d into the action! Perhaps for a quieter guitar you could consider an OM or Grand Auditorium body size. The LL16 is a big cavernous beast like the e10d, though very refined with the Engelmann and rosewood.
Yamaha tiene un sonido brillante en las cuerdas medias y de màs proyecciòn a diferencia del Eastman de un sonido màs suave dominada por las cuerdas graves,,, Saludos !
Between these two, I would recommend the Yamaha. It is really well made, very refined sound but also very loud and powerful. If the body is too big for you, the LS16 I played at my local music shop was also outstanding and also only A$1000.
These two are similar price point here in Australia. I think the Yamaha has a bit more mid range presence which is surprising considering the body is deeper and wider. The Eastman E3 not at all bad, but a better comparison would be the Yamaha against the Eastman E8D, with the rosewood and sitka. And that Eastman is closer to A$2000, to your point.

Thanks for your comment. I am keeping an eye out for an LS16 with mahogany. I'd like to try that smaller body with the mahogany.
@@turrafirmaguitarchannel Those are really nice. I'd like one too.

If you are interested in the Yamaha in particular, check out my in depth review called ‘Is it love at first strum’. Spoiler alert, it was 😍
Both great guitars with different sounds, it is just wat your ears leke more. Thanks 👍

The Eastman is a bit harsh in the top end but I like both. Do you still have the E10?
Hi, yes I still have the E10D, but it is with a luthier getting the bridge reglued. While it is out of action my go to has been the Yamaha.
@@turrafirmaguitarchannel wasn't it reglued once before already? I think you mentioned something like that or was it some other problem?

@@turrafirmaguitarchannel thanks for the response. How does the LL16 compare to the Eastman e8D?
That's like comparing Apples to Pears. The e8d is about double the price @josephryan5396
The Yamaha surpasses the Eastman in every domain, from balance to tonal clarity. As if they are not guitars from the same price range.

Wow! The Yamaha wins!
That looks like mahogany. My LL16D is much darker. Can I see the label? You realise theres an LL16M, right?
It’s the rosewood LL16 for sure; the sunlight in the video makes the rosewood look lighter.
@@turrafirmaguitarchanneldoes the LL 16m sound significantly different?
@@austinriska6644 I haven't tried the mahogany one, I would like to try out the mahogany with the LS16.
