  • I make a Campfire Tripod - Heating Steel Rebar with a Handheld Propane LPG Gas Burner Torch.
Because I was using 5/8 inch (16mm) Rebar I needed to use a gas burner torch to heat the steel so I could bend it. I enjoy doing blacksmithing-type jobs, it was a very peaceful DIY project, with nowhere near the amount of noise I normally make.
We do quite a bit of outdoor campfire or fireplace cooking and this tripod is a good solid addition to our outdoor kitchen gear.
All the rebar was 5/8 inch (16mm) Except the Hook which was made with 1/2 inch (13mm) Rebar. The height of the campfire tripod, when it is set up, is 43 1/2 inches (110mm).
The main tools used, were a Handheld Propane LPG Gas Burner Torch, MIG welder, angle grinder, and bench vise.
Tools / Supplies, I often use are.
    Marking out Tools
Markal Silver-Streak Metal Marker Round: amzn.to/3mTJDHt
Milwaukee 4pk Inkzall Black Ultra Fine Point Pens: amzn.to/2WKKpeE

MILWAUKEE 10” Locking Pliers, Curved Jaw: amzn.to/3zzJH2u
Milwaukee 6" Long Nose Locking Pliers: amzn.to/3jyVLeS
Milwaukee 6” Locking Clamp Regular Jaws: amzn.to/3jB94eI
KNIPEX Tools Long Nose Grip Pliers: amzn.to/3ByD1SP
    Magnets
Magnetic V-Pads Kit, Magnets On Both Pad Face & Bottom: amzn.to/3DCya4W
    Mini Magnetic Fabrication Square Magnets Angles: 30°, 60°, 45°, 90°: amzn.to/2WN9Fkr
    “L” shape Corner Square Magnets 12°, 90° & 60° Angle Setting: amzn.to/2YaZXsU
    My camera set-up.

I have two forges, two powerhammers, and a hydraulic forging press. I can make this is moments. BUT. You do it with brains and finesse. As opposed to brute strength. Brilliant use of strategic heat and pressure. As always? You Sir are an effing Beast of a Madman!! Your skills always amaze me.

That you were able to make the "eye" bend in the rebar without using a mandrel is VERY impressive. That's some metal-working skill right there.

I heard there's a lot of big construction in your area that's fallen behind schedule because of a shortage of rebar.
Great build. I like how you introduced heat to this project. Anyone with a gas BBQ can get a torch for under a hundred and do the same.

Hahaha, I have my special contacts to get me the rebar, big construction can wait, hahaha. Thank you very much, I am glad you liked it, yes I try to keep the tools simple, and in most cases quite cheap. Thank you for your comment.

I like your content. Reminds me of my hobby when I was MUCH younger. I have, since, given my blast furnace, crucibles, forge, green sand flasks, green sand mixer and two of my transfer hammers to my old partner. I got too old and decrepid to do that hobby.

Was thinking of making one .
The idea of bending the spike and welding it to a cut chain . solved a problem for me.
    Thank you.
