I am so glad I found this channel. I think it is a really good channel, and here is my reason why. I believe that for something to be preferred or not preferred (or good or bad if you want) it has to be compared to something. I just started learning recording and mixing at home using RUclips as my teacher. I was overwhelmed by all the channels and people sharing their knowledge, opinions and even secrets. It took me a while to understand that most of these creators were, in my opinion, very driven by their personal taste. So every time I was trying to implement what I saw they do, it just sounded strange. It was like asking a cook specialising in pasta to teach me how to make a juicy hamburger. World class cook, but in the wrong field. I really know what I like, and of course in my head my taste is the best, so I really do not need anyone to tell me what sounds good or not. I am a strong believer of that art does not have any rules or boundaries. So things like “always do this, and never do that” does not fit well with me at all. Alexander presents and shares his knowledge as suggestions and methods (He called it tricks in a video, but corrected himself 😁), not like a do or die thing. He is calm and he really guides you through his content by suggesting what to listen for, by repeating the steps and talking slowly and clear. I would say that most of his suggestions suits a wide array of genres/styles of music production. I also really enjoys that he does not suddenly appears in different clothing interrupting his own video because he begs you to buy his drum samples (Anyone wants to take a guess at how many drum samples there are out there on the internet?😂) PROS: Calm, thorough, clear, not shouting, not too affected by taste and personal opinions. And best of all; I can see that he is passionate about what he explains and talks about. That makes me “believe” him. It really motivates me, and gives me a kind of bonus to the general methods and suggestion made. I really want to try his suggestions. He inspires and motivates me to keep on learning and making more music. My favourite compliment. CONS: The haircut 😅😂😉 So many words just to say thank you, but I really want to express my gratitude. Of course I subscribed, watched all the videos except the auto tune one (A rather unknown part of my mental system refuses to use any kind of auto correction tools. Might be an age related thing) Thank you, Alexander White for being you. Please do keep up the good work. (I just realised that I talk about you in 3rd person. So hello Mr. White, well met) ________ BA (1977) Norway
@Zarumato I am SO grateful and happy to read all of this, and extremely happy that my videos have helped you! I am completely on the same page as you regarding musical taste being a personal thing and there is no such thing as correct! I’ve always noticed that any time someone makes a bold claim about always/never do this/that - it doesn’t take long to find a musical artist who has done it quite in the “wrong” way and made a hit record! I hugely appreciate you hanging out here watching the videos and commenting, and please let me know if you would like me to address anything in particular in future videos. Lovely to meet you too!
Another great video. And yet, Another of your videos that makes me want more. I'm not sure if this is a critique as much as an observation, so make of it what you will: You're doing such Amazing work explaining individual techniques that it's impossible to criticize anything. However the way they're presented Feels like they're comprehensive, yet lack context maybe. That said, you do provide the missing context in other Prior videos, so if someone watched All of them, they'd get a more complete picture (as I have). But again, I'm often left feeling like I need to go Back and find your prior videos to see complete the picture. Again this is not really criticism, or at least it's intended to be Constructive Criticism. If I were attempting to do what you are, I'd wanna know how its being received by the end- viewers. Keep up the good work regardless!
This is exactly the kind of comment I absolutely love! ❤️ thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It’s just the kind of thing that’ll help me improve my videos for everyone! I think you’re correct that at the moment there’s lots of individual tips and tricks, but perhaps I could do with showing some of this happening in a full mix situation? Is that the kind of thing you were thinking? Again, I so appreciate your input!!
