2021 is the year of the minimalist strategy game. First landlord, then SNKRX, and soon to be Mini Motorways. Can't wait to play that when it comes out!
So… I’ve had this game for awhile and thought I did ok. But finding out you can pause the game and then rearrange the lines is probably an important game mechanic i definitely should have been abusing
Love Mini Metro! Loops can be quite effective. My head cannon has always been that squares are urban business centers, triangles are shopping, circles are residential, and the weird symbols are various unique attractions. 😊
It's something along those lines, and passenger density reflects that. Circle stations will have a lot of Passengers coming out of them on weekday mornings, and lots of Passengers going to them weekday evenings. Meanwhile the special shapes see more traffic on the weekends.
@@mistergoldminer7764 LOL I didn't notice till you said something. Though, I never even knew you could manually re-route tracks in the first place. Maybe that wasn't even a feature when I played it, way back when it was new?
When you want to delete a line, rather than removing one station at a time, you can click the corresponding color on the bottom bar and click the X that appears on the top right of it to clear the entire thing at once. Also, there's a strategy that I've seen referred to as a "jump line" where you hold on to one line & train (and maybe a bridge or 2) and use that to get yourself out of a pinch when stations start getting crowded by connecting the overcrowded station directly to whichever station the majority of passengers want to go to
Wow, I used to play Mini Metro all the time. Just a little tip - connect almost all of your lines to squares. That way it won't get messy that quickly. I found out the best way to 'stay alive' is to have at least one circle, one square and one triangle on each of your lines. Or maybe that's just me. Also, you can delete your lines quicker by hitting on those little coloured buttons on the UI (bottom of the screen).
Interesting, I've always been solving this game by looking at it through drop-off locations, while Tyler seems to be solving it through pickup and train efficiency. (also, tracks that cross it terrible, like the Olympic rings 9:17 parallel is fine, but when they intersect like that, the trains slow down dramatically when they cross.)
Loops are great because it means that all stations are visited consistently and the train balances pickup and dropoff well. If you have a line you have a long time going out with mostly dropoff and a long time going back in with mostly pickup before the train makes it out to the other end. You also want to avoid sharp turns at stations, and that way the train will go straight through if it isn't planning to make a dropoff or pickup
Just a few tips: it is better to have unique stations in as most lines as possible. Also, having a few of the same shape at the end of a line is to be avoided (the passengers will only get in the train while it is going directly in the direction of the station they want to go)
The train doesn't pick up the angry passengers because they're waiting to go in the other direction. Look at their shapes. You don't have any stops of that shape in the direction the train is going. It's SUPER useful to build your lines to hit a variety of shapes and -when you have the odd shape here and there - make sure that either multiple lines intersect them or that you have an almost dedicated shuttle line because the passengers will collect and collect and your poor one-car train making a loop through 5 shapes won't have capacity to pick up all the leftover pluses from the three feeder lines
I literally just started playing this game again yesterday out of the blue as I was bored in the airport. o-O Very fun game, but I'm still not too good at it lol. Excited to see Tyler try to work out some strats!
What I really like about minimetro is, that the placement of the stations seems random, while it is not. Everytime you play a level it gets the same. 😁
I can’t believe I’ve been playing this game instead of doing my homework for years and I’m just now learning that the shapes of the people relate to which station they want to go to.
Always always always always make sure every line has a station of every basic shape, otherwise that line will be dumping passengers onto other lines. See it as completely essential. Also, if at all possible, make every effort to share clusters of the same station type between different lines
A good trick to deal with the angry stations is to have more than one train go to a lot more stations, specially the distant circles and unique shapes. Also, you can end your lines with triangles and squares so that empty trains will pick up everything they can from any angry station (also try to have them end at or close to where other lines meet it
I'm a huge fan of the underground map design so this is a very fascinating game for me 😅 I was like "yeah that's certainly London because that is the Thames"
I really like loops, when I get two trains on one loop I place the going in opposite directions, that is really helpful. I try to get every line to touch at least one triangle circle and square. I try not to hit too many circle (or triangles) in a row, tho sometimes you have to be pretty inventive with routing to avoid 3 circles in a row like his light blue region. I like to get one train line to connect all the train lines. So if I have 3 loops arranged like so: 000 in my city, I might strategically connect stations from each loop with one line, cutting thru the city, it might look like _|\_ to hit the rare stations, but it should decrease the number of trains needed to get from the start to the destination.
Excellent work after a year away. I'm impressed. Mostly your ability to break down lines you had and completely redraw them. I wish you would have gone further with that effort. Higher scores are certainly achievable in London with a bit more management. My high score on that map is 3677. Great job, and consider playing a few more cities. I'll be watching.
me before watching: wow cool, Aliensrock is playing one of my favorite games! me midway through: WHYY DID YOU HOOK IT IN THERE JFSLKDFJSKLDFJSLKDFJSL THATS SO UNOPTIMAL WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
You should try Wilmot’s Warehouse if you havent already! Feels like your style. Stick with it through the slightly boring first few shifts. It gets really hectic and fun.
On the first try you needed to take the red line because it wasn’t struggling and extend it to where the yellow and light blue cross to completely relieve stress on both lines trying to hit that one spot
I've played this game and Mini Motorways, and I can't wait to see you play mini motorways cause I find it A lot more fun. Don't know what you mean by the game coming out this month though cause I've played it months ago
10:09 maybe thinking about it as "crowded" rather than "angry" might help? It's not about how long they were waiting, it's about how many pips there are. :-B
Tyler, I love the video, I just finished playing The Spectrum Retreat which is a 3d puzzle game with a very interesting story attached to it. It is on steam and I would really recommend checking it out. I think it should only take you no more than 3 videos depending on how you structure it to complete the game. I am excited if you are up to it to see you play it...and I hope you enjoy it. P.S. - It is a bit scary but I get scared pretty easily so be warned.
I remember playing this on Coolmathgames during class time, since it was a simple yet complex game. I had no Idea that the creators of this game was going to come out with a new game, I'm looking forward to it!
Hi Tyler idk if you’ll see this but the Cairo map on this is actually pretty hard and was curious to see u have a go at the new updates w endless mode and what not with this game, even if not a video it could be a cool short casual patreon episode

Mini moterways has been out for a while on Apple Arcade, you should really enjoy it if you like this game aswell

Wait what
OH MY GOD that would have helped wtf
Yeah, but more often than not you end up fucking shit up
I think if you click and swipe the little circles up or on mobile to the left you get an x button and you can destroy a whole line at once
ive played the game for awhile and that wouldve been SUCH a good thing to use if i realized it
Love Mini Metro!
Loops can be quite effective. My head cannon has always been that squares are urban business centers, triangles are shopping, circles are residential, and the weird symbols are various unique attractions. 😊
Circles do appear ~2x as often as other stations so that totally makes sense

Exactly
Oh my gosh, thats exactly what I thought too!
crosses are hospitals, footballs are stadiums, diamonds are jewelers, stars are observatories, pentagons are gyms, teardrops are cemeteries
_has a nice line set up that covers all three basic shape so it doesn't dump passengers on other lines_
