    I have a TP Link Archer C7 v4. I tried OpenWRT, it slowed down my Internet speed. It went from my stock TP Link firmware at 680MBPS to the OpenWRT installation 280MBPS. I since flashed my stock firmware back. Good video though, it worked like a charm, I did not brick my router.

      @@Behfor i want send you a diagram to make it easier to understand my problem with my asus router just like you are doing with your videos. Hehe. But anyway here is my question.
      I cannot figure out why is my wifi DOWNLOAD speed goes down drastically compared to my wired LAN via Asus RT-AC88U (Average download/upload are 402-483Mbps wired LAN). But my UPLOAD speed stays the same even through wired LAN or WIFI connection. Why is that happening? My internet speed is 500Mbps and I can reach that easily through wired LAN from the asus router but when I use my WIFI the DOWNLOAD speed goes down like 92-140Mbps tops however my UPLOAD speeds stays the same at 402-483Mbps through wired LAN or wifi. Hopefully someone can explain to me how to fix this problem. Thanks in advance!

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  4 года назад +1

      That's kinda weird but wireless is weird so no worries ;-)
      I would try to pinpoint the issue first:
      1- Is it the router?
      2- Is it the wireless connection?
      3- Or maybe it is the client itself?
      I would start with these troubleshooting steps and see what happens:
      1- I would do the speed test on a different device, a device that I know it's wireless speed can reach 500 Mbps for sure and see what happens.
      2- I would make sure I'm using 5 GHz network and not 2.4 GHz
      3- I would also try different channels of 5 GHz network, because maybe there is something weird going on on the channel I'm using.
      4- I would make sure the device that I'm running the speed test on, is the only device connected to the WiFi during the test because wireless (unlike wired) is a shared medium and if another device is also using the network it'll impact the test results.
      Good luck ...

      @renzbasilabaca 4 года назад

      @@Behfor These are my answers to your questions and I did test everything. I hope you can help me.
      I would try to pinpoint the issue first:
      1- Is it the router?
      I am using Asus RT AC88U, brand new, default settings when I tested the speed for 3 days straight and get the average speed that I gave you recently
      2- Is it the wireless connection?
      I connected each device alone on the 5GHz band of the router and did speed test 3x
      3- Or maybe it is the client itself?
      The devices or clients I used to connect to the router are the Macbook Pro 13in retina 2014, Galaxy Note 10 Plus and iPad 6th gen.
      I would start with these troubleshooting steps and see what happens:
      1- I would do the speed test on a different device, a device that I know it's wireless speed can reach 500 Mbps for sure and see what happens.
      Ans.: I tested the Galaxy Note 10 plus since it has the wifi 6 capability via wifi connection on the 5GHz band of the router alone and I got an average of 90-150Mbps on DOWNLOAD speed but 400Mbps+ on the UPLOAD speed (and testing all 3 devices resulted on the same speed)
      2- I would make sure I'm using 5 GHz network and not 2.4 GHz
      Ans.: I connected each device alone via wifi on the 5GHz band of the router
      3- I would also try different channels of 5 GHz network, because maybe there is something weird going on on the channel I'm using.
      Ans.: I tried using wifi analyzer for this and there is no signal or frequency traffic in our area. And no other 5GHz bands are available detected except our wifi router's signal. So I only tried two channels 100 and 149 for the 5Ghz band but no difference in speed. And still DOWNLOAD speed is low and UPLOAD speed is consistently high (its speed is like connected via LAN)
      4- I would make sure the device that I'm running the speed test on, is the only device connected to the WiFi during the test because wireless (unlike wired) is a shared medium and if another device is also using the network it'll impact the test results.
      Ans.: I tested the 3 device alone and only connected alone every test I did for 3 days. Hahaha! And still same result. DOWNLOAD speed is low (wifi) and UPLOAD speed is consistenly high (either wifi or LAN connection) :(

    Is Solar Winds TFTP Server your preferred File Server, or can you recommend another?
    I've been considering hosting a FTP Server, trying to read-up on them, to determine my options.. both hardware & software. I welcome your input.

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  4 года назад

      SolarWinds SFTP is alright but it is more of a simple FTP server for normal administrator jobs, so is FileZila actually! But if you are looking for a more professional FTP server maybe Cerebus or Serv-U would be better options, because as far as I remember they let can transfer files through a web browser or mobile device without using a FTP client, which makes it much more convenient for the users. That being said, some wireless routers also have built-in FTP servers that might worth noting. Thanks.

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  4 года назад +2

      This is my understanding of OpenWRT factory.bin and sysupgrade.bin files (I could be wrong though):
      They have the same features (as long as they are the same version number, for example: 19.07.3), however, the factory.bin is meant to be installed when you are going from the stock firmware to OpenWRT and in some wireless routers you cannot go directly from stock to sysupgrade.bin. Now, when you are on a factory.bin (OpenWRT) firmware and want to upgrade to a newer version, you would install a sysupgrade.bin (OpenWRT) file. So in your case, you should be good, but when it's the time to upgrade to a newer version you can install a sysupgrade.bin.
