For some of the people here that are stuck with a server poll timeout, you may be like me and be trying to connect to your vpn server while already on the network the vpn serves. Try using your phone, disconnect from wifi and use data, and then connect using the phone client. It will hopefully work. Your other machines should also be able to connect successfully once off the home network.

For me it goes in connection timeout. I can't connect and I tried using a different wifi and mobile data.

this may be a silly question, but where is this vpn server? how is it hosted? is it managed by tp link in a different country? does jt have no logs etc? or is it us creating our own server within the router but it is all coming from this router? how are speeds, traffic, logs all managed if this is the case compared to vpn providers like nord, cyberghost and express vpn? really confused as to how the vpn server on tp link works. i have got my head around the vpn client feature but not server.

@Beh4, great video. @Behfor - ummm, guess you deserve some credit too. Jokes apart, this was great. Thanks. A question. What's the difference between setting up such a VPN in the router, and using an external paid vpn service? Will the openVPN setup on the router be able to access geo-restricted content (i.e. hulu etc)? Additionally would it protect from IP snooping etc.?

    From Canada:
Hi Behfor, your networking videos are very good.
As a native English speaker (there are really not so many of us, but many more ESL (English Second Language)..
It sounds to me that you had quite a struggle learning English from a very different native language.
But being a language buff (even fewer of those in North America compared with older countries), I am wondering if you are of Lebanese origin (a wild guess).
You might yourself like Paul and his "The Langfocus Channel".
If there was a language spake, he will speak! (a bit of different English! He comes from Vancouver, which for me is "The other side of the Great divide" (i.e. The Canadian Rockies, as I am in the greater Montreal area).
    Now back to the Networking:
    I recently have purchased a TP-Link Archer a7 V5.
That's when I ran into the one mesh thing. However on your video that compares one mesh with Ai mesh, I think I will wait until I have a use for a decent mesh then look into Ai Mesh.
But I am working to get my equipment ready to start a VPN, so I saved all the videos.
So much for now (and keep that ghost of yours under control!!)
    (Guffaw!)

      Dear R.E. Bruce Martin,
I am writing to let you know that how glad I am that you liked the networking videos! That is indeed fantastic!
I also would like to wish you luck in your upcoming networking projects.
Furthermore, I should thank you for introducing "The Langfocus Channel" to me, I sure will pay a visit to that channel.
      Yours truly,
      Behfor

@@Behfor Good St5uff all round! Now I am curious:
      1) What is your native language? (I am trilingual, English, French a strong second, and spanish 3rd.). Unlike Europe. North americans are not so often polyglots, but I am a start in that field.
Also what city are you in, or are you in a rural area?

Hi Prathamesh, have the same issue. DId you find a soln?

    • @BurpSuiteEnterprise
      @BurpSuiteEnterprise 3 года назад

@@broganjosh4729 This is usually the result of:
A perimeter firewall on the server's network is filtering out incoming OpenVPN packets (by default OpenVPN uses UDP or TCP port number 1194).
A software firewall running on the OpenVPN server machine itself is filtering incoming connections on port 1194. Be aware that many OSes will block incoming connections by default, unless configured otherwise.
A NAT gateway on the server's network does not have a port forward rule for TCP/UDP 1194 to the internal address of the OpenVPN server machine.
The OpenVPN client config does not have the correct server address in its config file. The remote directive in the client config file must point to either the server itself or the public IP address of the server network's gateway.
Another possible cause is that the windows firewall is blocking access for the openvpn.exe binary. You may need to whitelist (add it to the "Exceptions" list) it for OpenVPN to work.

Using VPN app on a google phone is stupid. The very reason to use VPN is to avoid google spying on you.
IS there a way to setup VPN on android without google play store or google app at all ? Is there a APK file to download ?

Point to point tunneling protocol. It uses weak authentication and encryption technology (MS-CHAP v1/2 , RC4) which can be cracked and are vulnerable to different attacks.

All's good... But why doesn't it hide my IP even after setting client access to 'Internet and Home Network' in the openvpn settings?
