Hard Reset (30/30/30) should only be done if it is appropriate for your router! For example it should NOT be done on ARM routers.
Please check out the DD-WRT Wiki pages below for more information before performing a hard reset and make sure you follow their instructions because otherwise you might permanently damage and brick your wireless router.

I was aware of how to use and configure DD-WRT and setting up a Repeater Bridge, but I learned it the hard way. This video is perfect for beginners and the instructions are very clear. Great job.
Glad it helped! Thanks :-)
I started watching this with my Room1 router and by the time I finished, I was connected via my Room2 repeater, on which I am now writing this comment (I had to pause/repeat many sections of the video)! Very nice!
That's awesome! I'm glad you could successfully set up a repeater bridge, thanks so much for sharing your experience :-)
This type of tutorials is that they should appear on the internet. After almost a full day trying to configure a router I could do it with this tutorial on the first try.
Thank you very much...
Thank you so much for your comment. I'm very happy that this video was useful for you :-) This will definitely inspires me to male more videos.
Thank you!
You saved me the trouble of laying down a 30 foot Ethernet cable and drilling through my wall!
Now my tv with broken wireless connects to the network!
You're very welcome! I'm very glad this video was useful for you and saved you some trouble! Thanks for letting me know :-)
:-D
Never saw any tutorial like this on youtube, simple and easy to understand, thank you !
Thank you very much! I'm happy this was helpful for you :-)
Your method of explanation is the best I've seen. I hope that you're making a good living with your technical and teaching skills.
Thank you :-)
Great tutorial. All steps worked. I have the exact same router as shown in the video. However would like to point out that I tried to do it initially with a different version of firmware but it didn't seem to work. Then I downloaded the exact same build as shown on your screen and installed it in the flash. That made it work as expected.
This was the best tutorial to get DD-WRT up and running. Thanks for this video
That's awesome! I'm very glad this video was useful for you. thanks :-)
Thanks man! The one video on youtube with clear cut instructions on how to do this. Much appreciated.
Your'e very welcome! I'm glad this video was useful for you! :-)
This is one of the best tutorials I have seen on the internet. My hats off to you. I got the DD-WRT on my old Linksys but was not sure what to do next. THANKS
I'm glad you liked it. Thanks so much 😀👍
@@Behfor , I downloaded one version of the firmware. It was not the OLSRD. Should I go ahead and download it and upgrade this version to it ? I just clicked on the second line without the OLSRD. I really didn't care if I bricked it as I have several older routers that have not been used in years. I seem to save everything lol
Thank you for this tutorial! This is the simplest yet best tutorial I’ve seen on this. I got my repeater set up in just a few minutes. Thank you!
You bet! I'm very glad this was helpful for you! Cheers :-)
THIS is the exact setup I've been searching for! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you found it useful :-)
DUUDE!!!!This is exactly what I needed. THANK YOU!! i have been trying to do this for a few days now and with you mentioning DDWRT i have been able to start the process. DD-WRT is down right now but i will check back later.
Cool man! I'm glad this was helpful :-)
I was able to set up a repeater bridge with the help of this video in my parent's house for a pc. Works WAY better than that crappy wifi adapter previously
It didn't work on my try with tomato (after trying many things), but with DD-WRT, it worked on my first try. We appreciate you helping out solely for the sake of helping other people! Keep it up
That's great! I'm very happy this video was useful for you :-) thanks for sharing your experience!
I watched this video last summer and was very reluctant to upgrade firmware. But now I tried and it worked smoothly. Thank you for explaining it in detail👍
Glad to hear that! Thanks for letting me know 😀👍
Thank you very much. Very clear, well explained and finally I have my old wireless router working as a wireless bridge as I wanted for a long time.
Great! I'm glad this was helpful for you :-) Thanks for letting me know!
I had converted my LinkSys Router to a wireless bridge years ago and did a reset the other day and was unable to get back Internet. Your video did the trick. Great work!
I'm very happy this video was useful for you! Thanks so much for letting me know :-)
Great video, even better than the instructions on the DD-WRT wiki. With your help I finally got my repeater bridge working. Thank you!
Awesome!! I'm very happy you found this video helpful and could successfully setup your repeater bridge! Thanks! :-)
Thank you so very much! I've been trying to get this accomplished with no luck until I watched your video!
you're very welcome! I'm very happy this video was useful for you! Thanks :-)
You saved my day. I have tried several tutorials in the internet. I have being trying for arounf 4 hours and now it works like magic! We really need to do all the steps very precisely. The Lan part must come first, and the wifi part has to come afterwards. I tried to do both at the same time and it did not work. So your instructions are really good. Just one small tricky part is the IP of the Router and the IP of the Router 2 (repeater) that must be in the same mask. You posted a video called (UPDATED) showing this tricky part. So you are the best, you saved me some bucks because now I dont need a new repeater.
Thanks so much! I'm very glad this video was useful for you! Cheers :-)
Awesome video! I already knew how to set up my extra router as a client bridge but didn't know why it didn't rebroadcast the signal, this creates new possibilities, thank you!
Joshua Hammer II Thanks man! I'm glad you found it useful! Yup, in the client bridge mode you can't add a virtual interface whereas is the repeater bridge you have that option.
This is the best tutorial for this set up I have found. Thank you SO much for this. You have helped me out tremendously! I can't thank you enough!!
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm glad you like this video and found it useful :-)
Dudes video was a BIG Help. Had me up and running after watching it.
That's very good news! I'm very glad you was useful for you! Thanks! :-)
I had always hoped this was possible instead of using those really weak range extenders. Thanks to your shared knowledge and second-hand equipment that cost me less that 15 USD, I have just been able to practically *triple* my effective speed from 12 to 34 Mbps and more importantly stabilize the connection (wired and wireless) throughout. Top man!
(PS I would second the experience of others here. Upgrade the DD-WRT firmware once you have gone from factory. I had to before it would work)
Thanks, I'm glad this was useful for you 👍
Nicely done. Followed instructions you presented and it's working perfectly! Thank you for taking the time to post this.
Great! Thanks for letting me know! I'm glad this video was helpful for you :)
Thanks man. Read some sites on how to do this, couldn't get it to work. Followed your video, works perfect.
This tutorial actually worked! The other ones didn't work for me. The important thing is not to apply any settings till the last change.
Great! I'm glad this worked fine! You're right, you should only click Apply Settings at the very end.
I used the first half of this video to give my FireTV a cable to the bridge. Linksys WiFi works better than the WiFi built into the TV. Thanks!
At long last I've found that good tutorial. Thank you for your work !
Glad you liked it, thanks 👍
Well done Behfor. Another practical piece.
Thanks 👍😌
Your channel has everything I needed in the past months.
Glad if I could help, thanks
Really appreciated this video, had to do some minor tweaking on my end to get this working. But I now have a working extender ready to connect the CCTV network to! Thanks
You're very welcome! Glad this was useful!
I've been sitting on doing this for a few years and finally someone that explains it perfectly. I finally got a repeater and extender with my old Linksys. This is fantastic!!! Thank so very much!!!
I'm glad to hear you got it to work! That's awesome 😀👍
Hi Behfor, I have an issue that has come up after following your instructions. I guess this worked for a little while but then it stopped connecting to the internet.
I can access the Linksys WRT54G router with the dd-wrt firmware on it at the prescribed 192.168.1.220 (new address I assigned) even through my Spectrum wireless connection? However, there is no internet connection wired or through Wi-Fi on the Linksys WRT54G router with the dd-wrt firmware on it?
I can connect to the Linksys WRT54G router wired or wireless but it has no Internet Access?
When applying changes to the repeater router I do get this warning:
"Please check the followings before connecting again:
If you have changed your router's IP address, please note that you must release/renew your client(s) address(s) on the network.
If you are connected via WLAN, please join the network and then click Continue."
Not sure what that means?
After going over and over it everything seems to be setup according to your instructions, so I’m not sure what is happening.
I did notice that your dd-wrt version on the video included more “Wireless Network Modes” on it than mine? Mine dd-wrt version only includes: Disabled, Mixed, B only and G only. My Spectrum router include: g, g/n, and n. It was configured for “g/n”. I changed it to just “g” and also changed the dd-wrt to just “g” so that they would match (after this issue happened). I still have the issue.
Is the router just broken? Or is it something else?
Would you have any ideas on what may be happening here and how to resolve it?
Thanks,
John
PS Should I just purchase something like the WIFI Ultraboost - wifi-booster.co/homepage/US/x-64/
PPS By the way I love your site!!!
I succeeded to configure my Linksys in Repeater bridge mode using your tutorial. Thanks.
You're very welcome, glad it was useful 👍
This video really helped me out.... I was up and running in just a few mins! ... Thanks for this video
Perfect! I'm glad this was helpful! Thanks for your letting me know! :-)
What a great video. Easy to follow, and it works... but for me, up to a point. I'm using an old Linksys Wrt320n. Whilst plugged in via ethernet everything works fine. As soon as I switch on the re-broadcasting, the 320n loses all ability to connect to the internet. I've done it 3 times, step by step, pausing on the iPad at every interval to make sure I have it the same. I think this must be a quirk in my kit or else the dd-wrt version running on it.
But the work done in this video is still great! So clear.
This was such a terrific tutorial. The drawings really explained it in ways that others have not been able to. I am happy to say that after hours of trying this on my own, I stepped through the process along with your video and you had me up and running in 10 minutes! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hey Kenneth, I'm glad this was helpful to you and you could successfully set up the repeater bridge :-) Thanks for letting me know too, it definitely motivates me to make more videos :-)
Thanks so much! Your tutorial did the trick for me. Wifi everywhere in my house!
You're very welcome! I'm very happy this video was useful for you! Thanks! :-)
A much better approach than at the DD-WRT forum. The "definitive" script I followed only did one [apply] after doing all the [saves]... so, when you end up with an non-communicating router, there's no knowing what went wrong. After multiple 30/30/30 resets and a few different scripts, I found this video. Your procedure of setting it up in stages makes it a little more clear where the issue is. In my case, I needed to install to an existing 10.0.0.x network. Default, of course, for the DD-WRT is 192.168.1.x. I'd lose communication at your first [apply] step. I added one step, before hitting that first [apply] .
I added [Status][Wireless] and hit the [Site Survey] button at the bottom, then joined my primary router from the survey list. More than one "authoritative" script claims that the only thing this does is set give you an exact copy of the primary router's SSID. I think it does more than that. Once I added that step, everything else worked as described. Just because I'm a masochist, I did a 30/30/30 and ran your script again without the [Status][Wireless][Site Survey][Join], and again, no communication. Adding that step I think not only copies the primary SSID, but may also handle some subnet or internal routing voodo that may not be needed if you're installing to a default 192.168.1.x network.
Thanks and Thumbs up.
P.S. I'd also suggest not using what is maybe the most castrated version of the WRT54G router - the V5 - a truly sad piece of equipment. And also the one I had to work with.
Your video was excellent. I watched a lot that were not, so thank you very much for taking the time to do this. This method worked perfectly for me.
Glad it helped! Thanks :-)
nicely explained, love your hand-drawn diagrams, and learned some new steps which id missed
great explanation. I could successfully set up my spare router as repeater with your video.
This is absolutely awesome! Your pictorial tutorial is A+++
Thanks so much! I'm very glad you liked this video :-)
Nice one man, best video so far! Thank you for your efforts!
great stuff. Thanks for the in depth DD-WRT tutorial!
I'm very happy you liked this video! Thanks for watching :-)
Thanks this save me hours of reading DD wrt instructions
I'm glad this was helpful! Good luck DD-WRTing :-)
spot on. same router same requirement (secondary router used to connect my tv via LAN). Followed the steps as shown in video and it works. Brilliant video and many thanks :)
Glad to hear that, thanks 😀👍
Thank you very much. This seems to have been tailor made for my requirements. Wishing you all the best.
You're very welcome! I'm glad this was helpful for you :-)
yooo thanks a million! Got to the Wired bridge step and got stuck! The virtual interface section brought it home for me. THANK YOUUUU
You're very welcome! I'm glad this was useful :-)
Very clear explanation... Thank you... precisely what I needed. Could not have asked for more.... Keep it up....cheers!!!
Awesome! I'm happy this was useful for you! please stay tuned for new videos!
Man you are real Professor. Thank you !
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm very glad you liked this video! You made my day! :-)
This was the best I've found. Thank you for your attention to detail.
I'm very happy you found this useful! Thanks :-)
Thank you so much! After my wireless NIC started dropping alot of packets i had to switch to a wired setup but it would have required drilling holes or laying a cable across the room. I had an old ddwrt router but i couldnt remember how to set it up as i havent done networking since i switched careers 4 years ago. It was driving me nuts. This video had be up and running and remembering how this stuff works again, all in just 10 minutes! Thx again
You're very welcome! I'm very happy you liked this video and found it useful! Thanks :-)
Thank you for your video it was helpful. I finally made my cisco E1000 a repeater appreciate your time to make this video.
You're very welcome! I'm very glad this video was useful for you :-)
Good job, the information is still accurate and working.
This is the best explanation.
Great tutorial video
You explained everything clearly in a simple words.
Thanks for the effort of described about the bridge.
Keep it up behfor. Two thumbs up !!!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind comment :-) I'm glad you enjoyed this video and this definitely inspires me to make more videos! Thanks again :-)
Works great. Got my old Linux system on the net (on the other side of the house) because of your tutorial. Many thanks
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful! Thanks :-)
Behor, thank you for your great tutorial: your instructions are clear and precise. Because of you I was able to reconfigure a Linksys WAP54G Wireless G Access Point to run in reverse and operate as a Repeater and a Bridge. This has enabled me to keep using a Sony Ray DVD player: it's internal WiFi modem has stopped working but now it is hard wired to the LAN output of the Linksys. I got great joy out of making something I would have thrown out, come back to life. Thanks again, from Australia.
You made my day buddy with your super nice comment :-)
I'm really really glad you found this video useful and you could set up a repeater and connect your Sony DVD player!!
Awesome! Thanks again and have fun in the beautiful Australia :-)
@@Behfor Hi again, Behfor. I forgot to mention that as well as the Bridge being able to supply a LAN to the DVD, the Repeater has increased the WiFi in the room from 75% to 100% and that will now run the set top box. If you ever come Down Under let me know and I'll have you around for a BBQ.
Excellent video.. going to follow your process to set up my old router
This is the video I was looking for. Very easy to understand. It was a great explanation. Thank you :)
You're very welcome! Glad you liked it 🙂
Best explanation I've found! Thanks for this.
Glad you liked it, thanks!
Thanks so much.....Did not understand it all, but followed directions and it worked....
You're very welcome! I'm glad it worked 😀👍
Good tutorial. I've been looking to put a second router in a far bedroom bridged wirelessly to the main router in the living room on the other side of the house which is connected directly to the cable modem. The step through and diagrams really helped.
Great! I'm glad this was helpful :-)
Thanks, Behfor. Your video was perfect! Following your instructions, I was able to connect my wife's pc in a new home office at a former spare bedroom in my house, while also extending the range of my wifi network to reach the outside garage for a new internet "smart" garage door opener. Again, thank you so much for this video. Warmest regards, -Terry
Hey Terry, thanks for the message! I'm very glad this video was useful for you! That's very good news! Thanks :-)
He dude thanks heaps! I got stuck for awhile until I got here, Bloody brilliant video!
Glad it helped! Thanks :-)
Thank you! Just a crystal clear explanation and demonstration.
You're very welcome, glad you liked it 👍
I only have to said!!!! Thank you my friend, i was able to setup all with your video..
Great!! I'm happy this video was useful for you :)
Very very instructive video, I was about to throw away my old router, but I will keep using it.
Glad it helped
excellent! you saved me potentially several days of dirty work by trial and error. thanks!
Glad it was helpful, thanks :-)
Best of the best tutorials ever. Your method is amazing man God bless you many more people RUclipsrs get inspired in your method.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video 🙂👍
Thanks a lot for well explain the serio.. though my old router could not succeed on broadcasting but bridge resolved my internet coverage issue. Thanks a ton.
Thank you for this video. I have been going nuts trying to figure out the Repeater Bridge mode and you have simplified it. Great job
Superb! Amazing Tutorial.
Thank you for detailed and step by step instructions............
Highly recommend this video
Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked this video :-)
Thanks for laying out that bag of snakes for me. I flashed my router years ago with dd-wrt but i never could get a repeater bridge to work. And the forums were mostly useless. This video made it very easy to do. well as long as you don't skip the final step of the wireless setup like i did. Anyway it works perfectly now with lan and wireless connections. I have the router setup in my barn, Which is about 125 feet from my modem, the signal has to pass through the walls of the house too, And then out to the barn. with a wifi adapter i couldnt even watch youtube on lowest settings. Now with the repeater bridge setup, I can literally watch anything, And download at up to 430 kbps. Which is about two thirds of my internet speed on dsl. Thank you so much, Now i can have some entertainment while i work on small engines, and woodworking.
That's very good new! I'm very glad this video was useful for you! Thanks for letting me know :-)
Hey buddy, thanks a lot for your help and BEST REGARDS from Croatia!!! :-)
Hi there! I'm glad you liked this video :-) hopefully one day I come and visit the beautiful Croatia! Thanks so much 🙂👍
Thank you very much mate. The explanation and diagram made it really easy to understand.
You're very welcome! I'm very happy you liked this video :-)
Very detailed and thorough explanation of how to turn an old DD WRT router into a bridge repeater!
Unfortunately it didn't work for me, although I can't figure out why. I tried to use an ancient (but known working) Linksys WRT160N V3 with DD WRT installed. I did a 30/30/30 reset each time and followed your instructions exactly each time but no joy. Very odd because I'm sure that I've used this very same router as a repeater before.
Ah well, still terrific detailed instructions even though they didn't work for my router.
Amazing! Well done and well explained...getting much better speeds now in my office!!
Awesome! Glad it helped! :-)
Router#2 produces a better signal than a laptop running wirelessly from Router#1?
In other words. If I am in Room2 and I have #2 Router bridged (connected) and I have my Laptop connected wirelessly to Router#1. Which signal (how many bars) would be stronger?
Tutorial worked great for Wi-Fi connection. Although I am not getting internet via Ethernet connection from bridge/repeater router
I'm happy to report that this works great on Linksys E2500 using dd-wrt v3.0-r33772 (11/16/17). Yeah!!!
I had to tweak the wireless network mode to "G-Only" through trial and error, but I found the right one eventually.
Thank you very much!!
Glad to hear that! Thanks 👍
Thank you for sharing Sir! Worked just as you showed.
Glad to hear that, thanks 😊👍
Thank you, this video really helps my frustation over making my old router into repeater
Hey just watched this, at 3.05, Callanis Standing Stones in The Isle of Lewis on your background! Been there many times. Guess I'll keep watching now!
6 years later: can confirm this still works, thank you!
Glad to hear that, thanks for sharing 🙂
you sir are a great teacher... brilliant
Thank you so much! Please stay tuned for more videos :-)
Best video about this topic, thanks!
Thanks, glad you liked it 👍
Excellent tutorial! The pictorial visualizations aided understanding alot. I struggled until I did a release/renew of the IP address, right after "Apply Settings". BINGO, it worked....
Great to hear! Thanks :-)
I mounted my repeater on the garage ceiling to be close to the client device. Had some network issues and did a factory reset on the parent router. What a PIA. I have bring the router down and repeat the programming of the repeater. Probably have to factory reset it too. Can’t connect to the VAP I created. Darn I won’t be so quick to do that again.
That's one is great 👍 ..nicely cover all the questions I have had in my mind . I am lurning a lot. God bless u and keep shining 🌟🌟🌟
Working good with d'link dir-600 for wired pc. Losing internet access when enabling virtual wireless.
I need to reset the router and repeat the process again.
Overall excellent video.
I
Thank you, excellent example. I'm going to try it soon. ❤
You're welcome and good luck 👍
Thank you Behfor for your tutorial. Actually your tutorial was the best to helped me setup my LINKSYS WRT54GS as Repeater Bridge. I'm trying to learn how to change the channel from your other videos to speedup the repeater that is much slower than the router. Thank you again. Wishing you best of luck!
Glad it helped and happy new year :-)
@@Behfor Happy New Year!
I watched your videos and I failed to change the channel in my DD-WRT. I'm wondering do you have any specific video on how to change the channel or suggestions? Thank you in advance.
Amazing video, I liked it for it's clear instruction and for understanding what was happening.
That's great to hear :-) I am really glad this video was useful for you and thanks for letting me know!
Beautifully explained.
Man, you rock! That's exactly I need. Thanks a lot!!!
Great video. Very concise and to the point.
My pleasure ! Thanks 🙏😀
Thanks for this tutorial! Did the same a long time ago but couldn't remember....thx again!
You're very welcome! I'm very glad you found it useful! :-)
Thanks for the video. Very helpful and exactly what i was looking for with out all the bull.
Thank you very much! This is exactly the scenario I had and your video was of a huge help. Thank you again! 🙏
Glad this was useful for you, thanks 👍
This is an outstanding video. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you so much for your comment :-) My absolute pleasure! I'm glad it was useful!
tu tutorial esta mucho mejor explicado que yo haya encontrado ya que estoy utilizando ese firmware DD-WRT por primera vez y quede un poco confuso de uso pero ya sali de ese problema por este video muchas gracias.
I'm glad this was helpful :-) Thanks!
