I spent a LONG time making this work for my TP Link Archer C7. Didn't have repeater or repeater bridge option available to me so I had to go to client bridge and use some other resources to learn how to do that. Through it all, though, I really enjoyed your videos. I watched them all over and over again as I taught myself how to do this. Thanks for the great work. I'm happy to report that I now have a 2nd router for both wired connections in another room (away from my main router) and as an access point for wifi. Amazing! Thank you.

After decades of being a computer user, I have concluded that they are terrible at doing anything consistently and correctly. Bluntly: computers suck. If you accept and embrace this as "Computers suck. I can change some things if I have the power and ability, but much of my time will be spent dealing with something not working correctly." then, you'll be OK. The things that work best on a computer are the power button and the gravity that pulls it toward the earth when I throw it into the air or trash pile. I commend you for helping others.
Hi, want to thank you so much for "power cycle multiple times" advice. I was losing my mind with my e2500 trying to make it run as repeater for WiFi range extender. Eventually had to settle for different name SSID and repeater bridge mode, although outside of having different SSID it all works as simple repeater should (wiki says repeater bridge shouldn't work as WiFi extender, only as a WiFi to LAN modem). And darn thing was refusing to work before 4 restarts.... Good advice. Cheers
If nothing else, and you're sure the settings are right, reset your HOST router to default and reset the basics like local IP, wifi ssid and password, upnp, etc. Then try your bridge again. Sometimes the settings get corrupted in the host and prevents successful bridging. Ive ran into this issue more than once.
Hello. Nice videos, well explained and illustrated. Very straight forward. When I change the IP address of the DD-WRT repeater (linksys), I was able to access the web interface for sometime. But just after a few minutes, browser was not able to access it anymore. Got any idea what's wrong? Cheers!
on the ddwrt firmware you would need to enable the wan to DHCP, AND THEN ONLY CHANGE THE SECONDARY ROUTERS IP TO ANOTHER SUBNET OR LAST OCTET. THEN UTILIZE REPEATER OR REPEATER BRIDGE OR IF IT IS A DUAL BAND ROUTER ON AN UPDATED DDWRT FIRMWARE YOU CAN UTILIZE CLIENT MODE ON ONE BAND THEN AP MODE ON ANOTHER BAND FOR WIFI. NO NEED TO UTILIZE GATEWAY OR DNS....ON SETUP PAGE IT WILL USE A VLAN SETUP IN THE FIRMWARE AUTOMATICALLY ON THE WAN DHCP
Hi, do you mean Client bridge or Client bridge (routed)? if you mean Client bridge (Routed), that's the same as Repeater bridge, which I have a video explaining it. If you mean Client bridge, there is no need to configure a virtual interface because the client bridge does not broadcast a network. Thanks.
I don't use Repeater + Repeater Bridge.. I use AP + Client Bridge. You have to set the AP side on 2ghz to NG Mixed or on 5ghz to NA Mixed mode for it to work, as WW DRT doesn't seem to support the other modes for the AP side. On the Client side just set to Client Bridge and for SSID punch in not the name of that piece of hardware, but the name of the AP SSID you are connecting to.
@Behfor I'm trying to get two Linksys 54GLs linked as a repeater bridge (one as gateway, other as extender). The connection establishes fine, until I add a VAP. Once I do the bridge link disappears, delete the VAP and the link comes back up. Yet the same setup with a 3rd party router as gateway and it works perfectly. It's just an issue trying to link two identical GLs together and add a VAP Running v3.0-r45036 std (12/17/20). Have you run into this issue before ?
Yeah, I remember similar issues using old firmware/hardware, I guess (I could be wrong) it was a known issue back then, however I personally haven't had that issue anymore using newer hardware such as ASUS AC68U as an extender.
@@Behfor The two GLs as repeater bridges work fine, until I try to swap in the 3rd one as gateway. I'll just keep things as is for now with the AC router as gateway and eventually change them all for newer hardware such as WRT1200AC or 3200ACM. It was an interesting mini project trying to get them all linked and hooked to the net. Thanks for the feedback.
Hi Behfor and thanks for doing this video. I have a TP-Link C7 archer as my second router and this has Atheros CPU. After watching your videos last year on doing a Repeater Bridge and with the C7 archer router not having the Repeater Mode setting, this just through me and trying to search RUclips for this problem with no success. With this video, you have shown and covered a small portion on this: 3:54 - thank you but I still get confused as first: . is "Client" the same as "Repeater" with "Client Bridge" the same as "Repeater Bridge" - if not what is the difference between "Client" and "Client Bridge" also from 4:14, where it shows about Atheros Considerations notes, it states "then create a virtual interface to broadcast the new SSID -does it has to be a "new" SSID, fo you can have the same SSID as your wireless network Last, this maybe too much to ask, but as I mentioned before, I was checking on RUclips for this "No Repeater Bridge" mode, I send out afew requests to other RUclipsrs on this with no replies - possible to do a video of a router with Atheros CPU - I even get people reply back to me it I found the answer Thanks for your time and keep up the videos - Sean (Australia)
Hi Sean, thanks for the questions! 1- The difference between the Client bridge and Repeater bridge (or client and repeater) is that in the repeater mode the secondary router broadcasts a SSID but in the client mode it doesn't! Basically the client one is only for the wired clients connected to the secondary router but the repeater is for the wired and wireless clients! Normally if you select the client or client bridge options and save the page, you don't even have the option to add a virtual interface (create a wireless network for the secondary router)! However with Atheros routers, if you select the client or client bridge option you should still have the option to add a virtual interface! 2- The new SSID can be the same as the primary router or different. I've actually used both in the past! 3- Unfortunately I do not own a router with an Atheros CPU right now, but if I ever do in the future I'll sure do that! Thanks and hope this was helpful :-)
Hi! Im traying to configure my Linksys EA2700 and have the issue with the wifi. If dont have seciruty can connect, bur putting the same o others modes of security cant connect it. There are something that i can try? Thank you!!!
I had same issue with E2500. For me it worked after I configured everything like in wiki on "repeater bridge", but had to use different WiFi name for second network. After all is done disable password on second network. Restart router a few times (let it boot like 2 min every time). Then enable password and again after saving and applying settings reboot up to 5 times (recommend by removing cable). Worked out for me. In my case issue was reboots. Eventually it worked.
I setup the repeater bridge with my mobile hotspot and it works, It isn't broadcasting the ssi for the second router. Now I can't enter the second router settings as it just times out. I know I am using the right ip address. I had this working with a different hotspot and had the same problem. I had to reset the router to get into settings. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for your video..this is the 2nd video I have watched regarding the repeater mode..so I set up my tmobile cellspot 1900 with an asus n12 as the repeater that works..thanks to you, but I have found out the speed on the repeater was so slow, my cable internet speed is 100mbps down, somehow I could only get 5mbps or mostly lower than that..download speed from the repeater, is there anyway to make it faster, is the AP mode faster than repeater mode. thanks.
Hi, thanks for the question. The AP mode should be faster than the Repeater mode because the repeaters usually can offer half (or even less) the bandwidth (due to wireless is half duplex and etc)! If it is possible for you to use the AP mode, I would definitely suggest to use the AP mode, the repeater is only suggested when the wiring for a new AP is not possible. Thanks!
After putting the ddWRT on repeater bridge mode , I am not able to log into its web interface settings page to do further modification. Is there a way around. The ddWRT is now working in the repeater bridge mode. Wired and wireless connections are all fine.
I have the Linksys E900 trying to setup in repeater mode. I followed your tutorial but I found that only few firmware versions would work with virtual interface. Specifically, k2.6 r25947 or before, but the stability is questionable... k3.x r34411 works fine and has fixes for the KRACK vulnerability. Later versions of the k3.x has issues with setting up a WiFi broadcast, password incorrect, cannot connect to Internet, or would just break the repeater function... Do u have a recommended firmware build for this router?
Great vid, I'm just having a slight problem, after getting connected to the internet, I can no longer access ddwrts web interface, would you have any ideas on how I could solve this? Thanks
@@Behfor I seem to have fixed that issue but I've ran into another, my connection speed is halfed when connecting to the repeater bridge, I understand this is normal behavior for both repeaters and repeater bridges because they are essentially using one radio for two separate data streams. Behfor DO NOT GIVE UP on YT videos. I think there is a gap on the YT market and hunger for WIFI channel like yours. Wifi issues are and will be in our lives and you have ability to provide simple ( yes I need simple ) way of explaining complex stuff. Your Repeater videos showing that you can keep same SSID and same Network IPs was a deal breaker to me. You could focus on bench-marking , that could give you enough material for videos. For example: Compare speed performance on AiMash 2xAC68U ( ~80$ ) vs AiMesh 2xAC86U ( ~350$ ) Or benchmark 68U speed and signal under Merly, Tomato, DD-WRT, OFW etc.. Hi bro Behfor plz help me. I have tp link 801nd same time this router , internet may not be available , Why did it come? Can you tell us what is the reason? Plz
WPA2 PSK is same as WPA2 Personal AES. PSK means pre-sheared key, meaning it's a constant password. That's what WPA2 personal does. AES is just encryption method and it's default on most WPA2 networks
Yes. But only if your internet is fast enough to fill the bandwidth. In my case it's exactly half from 80mbps to 40mbps. I think directly on cable I would get almost 100. But it all comes down to your needs. For me half the speed doesn't matter as WiFi users on extended are low speed anyway (highest bandwidth they need is RUclips and it streams 1080p just fine)
You should do a video where you connect multiple wireless routers together with ethernet cables on the same subnet with the same SSID. I use 3 DDWRT routers in different buildings to provide wireless over a wide area and a reliable wired connection for IPTV cameras. That way, I can get a wireless signal for internet radio and I don't risk losing the camera feed if the WiFi stops working. There were no good tutorials on this, so if you could do one, it might help someone in the future.
