Thanks man, you saved me alot of headache. I recently found myself in a financial situation where I cant afford a cheap wifi extender but I had an old r6300v2 router laying around that I wasn't using and you saved me. so thank you very much your videos are very knowledgeable and they helped me learn how to convert my router into a repeater bridge

1:07 😜🤪, ok, was watching the DD-WRT repeater vid and you said to watch this video first before the DD-WRT repeater video.
Now that I’m here watching this video….you just said to watch the “OTHER” video before watching this one🤦🏼
I’m getting whiplash from which vid to watch first now 🤣🤣
So, this vid on my lollipop tablet, and the other on my phone…so I’m watching them BOTH at the same time. Problem solved 🙃

Behfor, I completely agree with the point you made at the end of the video. When it comes to establishing wireless bridges, for the sake of extending a network, the band of radio frequencies or associated channels utilized for the bridge, should not be re-used for AP-Client communications. This avoids unnecessary interference issues, and a multitude of problems, that would otherwise result.
Another option to accomplish the bridging would be via ethernet backhaul. I’ve seen a number of systems on the market, which purport to use this as a wired option, when wireless just doesn’t work. Can you speak on this subject?
Your videos are entertaining, straight-forward, and easy to follow. Keep up the good work! 😊

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  5 лет назад

Thank you so much, I'm very glad you like the videos! I've already mentioned that we can use Ethernet Backhaul when we set up Asus Aimesh System (ruclips.net/video/jPuuxkHTXMo/видео.html) I also tested that in another video (ruclips.net/video/5sagIw6_ofE/видео.html). I personally always prefer to run a cable between the routers, because that is the most reliable connection and this way I can dedicate the wireless networks for the clients only, however sometimes running a cable is not easy or even possible, then I would consider a repeater/ repeater bridge! Thanks so much again :-)

WLANs use direct sequence spread spectrum technology built to handle such intra-band interference, it works well for home networks with b/w less than 100Mbps -- sharing the same 2.4GHz band should not be a problem.

Thank you very much for this! Your videos are very useful and fun to watch. My problem: I want to extend (repeat?) the Wi-Fi network but NOT create another SSID. Users shoud change from one AP to the other without having to connect to a different network. Is it possible? I see DD-WRT has an AP mode, but you used the traditional router mode.

I'm not sure that the "Repeter Bridge" mode on the secondary device (the DD-wrt) to connect it to the primary router via WiFi would work for any primary router brand.

    • @Behfor

Brand has nothing to do with this. You should be able to connect it to any brands. They main router and repeater should just both support the same standard 802.11WiFi.

Just a question. So I’m getting another router to expand the 5G wifi coverage in my townhome. The modems are going to be 1 floor apart approx 20 Meters away from each other., but I only want to use 5G for extra speed. My question is I’m obviously going to use the 5G physical interfaces on the routers to create the bridge repeater which will need to be set with identical SSID, channels, and settings ect right? So When I create a new virtual 5G interface on the secondary router, Do I set that up with the same channel settings ect as the 5G interrouter connection to expand that 5G network further? Or should I be choosing different channels, settings, with a new SSID name to mitigate interference? I just want to make sure im not setting something up that is gonna jam eachother. Thanks!

To add you may not need to set up virtual interface if you want the secondary router as a repeater. Instead, set whichever radio to client bridge mode first and the other radio to AP mode with exactly same ssid however the moment you set the other radio to client bridge and completed the client bridge set up and hit save it will automatically write the ssid name on the radio set as AP. All other parameters need to match that of the primary router. I have been playing and expirementing many builds on dd-wrt for 3 days on my dual band netgear wndr3400 N600 trying to find a solution (while also thinking I might have messed around some settings or the dd-wrt build itself) and I found none of them can repeat the signal without having to create a virtual interface until I tried leaving the other one as AP and the other as client bridge and viola it works as intended and a wireless AP is broadcasting as a repeater just like the primary without having to log in again and can connect seamlessly when in range without dropping a connection. I am currently on build 40559.

May I ask if it is possible to extend/repeat a RADIUS wireless connection with the router?
If I understood correctly, the authentication in this type of connection opens a browser page for the user to input the credentials.
Somehow the router doesn't know how to redirect this web page...
I suppose one way, would be to use a computer to connect and authenticate wirelessly and then use the ethernet port to share this connection with the router.
Is it possible to use just the router between the RADIUS wifi and the computers?
    Thank you

Suddenly, my internet connection was lost, my IP address was no longer in the same network, and I couldn't log back into the router on 192.168.1.2 I can easily re-setup but any reason why the switch connection would throw the network so out of whack so I can avoid it happening again???

Hi there. Thanks for the good explanation, but i have got a question. My TP-Link router does not have the option "repeater bridge". I only have the following options:
    AP
    Client
    Client Bridge (Routed)
    Adhoc
    WDS Station
    WDS Station (Mikrotik)
    WDS AP
Which do i have to choose and is it still possible?
And by the way, another Question. Is it possible to have the WLAN Router(lets call it SecondaryRouter) to connect via EAP connection to another WLAN Router(PrimaryRouter), but to make the SecondaryRouter to create his own WLAN via WPA2? Is that mode possible? I am searching information in the internet for several hours, but i dont find any option that will work.
    Thanks for your help!

After using Bridged mode for several weeks now I am incredibly frustrated because the connection is so unstable. I get frequent drop outs every day whereby the router in bridged mode (Negear r7000) appears to just get dropped by the host router. I've set its mac address on the host router to assign it a fixed IP but this doesn't seem to help. Most of the time it reconnects by itself within 5-10 minutes but sometimes i doesn't and i need to restart both routers to get it working again.Any ideas??

Why did you choose DD-WRT over MerlinWRT? Does it have extra benefits?

    • @Behfor

Well, Merlin is a very good firmware, but it is only available for a some Asus routers. DD-WRT on the other hand is available for many more routers including other brands. I would use Merlin for everyday use, but in case it doesn't have a feature that I need then I would switch to DD-WRT, which has some features that Merlin doesn't have. The AC is only for the 5GHz band, and the 2.4 GHz is N. So if you are connecting the repeater to the 2.4 GHz radio of the primary router you would choose N.

You might of assigned the secondary router with the same ip address as the primary. Re-check which ip address you assigned the repeater as, make sure its different than your primary.

If it has "client bridge (routed)", it's the same thing as repeater bridge, thanks.

    Hi Beh4,
In your other video (not this one)
I have all my configuration done following your instructions.
I get the ping (run) and then open a web page, it appears (ie. it works) then I after soon I open another page (say after 30 seconds), it stops with no connection.
I am able to see my wifi connection (like "room2")
Looking at the Ping/Run, I see it connects (ie 'reply from 8.8.8.8 -t), then "destination net unreachable".
    Any helpful advice?

Hello. Please help me or my brain will explode. I have a main 4g/5g router that use open wrt and a spare dd wrt router in house. I want the dd wrt to use it as a extender for wifi and lan. Can you do a video or help me with the right settings? Cheers

Hi, i think this video ( and maybe the first version) is exactly what you need, it doesn't matter what the primary router is, it could be any brand using any firmware (openwrt or something else). As long as you have a secondary router running ddwrt you should be able to use this video to setup a wifi extender / repeater. Good luck 👍

I followed this to a T. how do I access the GUI of my Linkseys WRT54G running (DD-WRT Broadcom Generic - K2.4 - Micro) 192.168.1.2 takes me to nowhere and 192.168.1.1 takes me to my main router

    • @shaquillelabban6495
      @shaquillelabban6495 3 года назад

you would have to plug directly into the router, lan 1 port since both of them have the same ip gui being 192.168.1.1

Behor, my just downloaded latest version for my router v3.0 r43136 has no repeater bridge option. Only client bridge(routed) - this still works the same way? WDS seems to have overtaken this. But my main modem router cannot do WDS.

    • @Behfor
      @Behfor  4 года назад +1

Client bridge (routed) is the same as repeater bridge. The routers with Atheros processors are like that 👍

Hi there, my question is, it's not necessarily on secondary router set in SSID option same as primary?? I mean can we set different name on 2.5 and 5 channel as ssid?? Right??

It worked when I finished but kept rebooting after I powered it down and turning it on.
