She doesn't believe in competition.... I could feel that comment really came from her deep inside. What a humble, beautiful, smart and hardworking single mom who became a legend! Our precious K-grandma above all K -pop idols!!
She HAD TO work literally in order to survive with two kids after divorce from her absolutely irresponsible ex-husband. But now look at the result of all those years. I don't believe in competition either but I believe in faith, loyalty, hard work, true effort and true love. I'm so proud of her as a woman, as a mom and as a human being. God bless you, Youn.
Her ex-husband not only irresponsible he’s also a cheater. And he have the audacity to say that he still support her career and watch Minari on first day of release. Such a garbage 🤬🤬
@@Rynassa Right???? He ignored his responsibility for that long period, and NOW he praises her and trying to act like he's a conscientious person🤣🤣🤣 So funny that Youn achieved so many careers and meantime he hired a ghostwriter for his painting to be called himself artist🤣🤣
@@Rynassa I know what you're talking about. But let's just focus on her more, because this is HER day, HER life. :) Her marriage didn't work, she had to get out of it with empty hands but continued to fight for a living and got over it so long ago. She didn't act for a prize nor a recognition of western countries. She's just lived her life, sometimes making bad choices, oftentimes stumbling over obstacles just like any of us. But she never gave up, never lost love and passion for her kids and life itself. She once clearly said life is full of unfairness. That's what life is about. I really believe she truly meant it when saying she's only a little bit luckier today, we all are winners. This oscar is like an icing on the cake for her, a very pleasant surprising gift. But her life was already there, standing firm, with or without it. And that's what I admire of her.
윤여정선생님, 너무 너무 축하드려요!!! 해외파 한국인으로써 미나리와 선생님께서 전세계의 주목과 사랑을 받는모습, 넘 자랑스럽습니다. She's really a role model. It's a well-known fact in Korea, but here it is to whomever reading this now: Youn Yuh-Jung stopped acting for a bit right after her first big break because she was married to a famous singer, Cho Young-Nam, for 12 years or so, and they moved to the US together. In the 70-80s when finding tofu in the US was difficult, Ms. Youn would make them from scratch for her husband who loved tofu. Eventually, they got a divorce because Cho Young-Nam not only had spent everything she had earned, but also cheated on her and said that he can't be with someone so ugly. Also he didn't provide any support for the two sons. That's why Youn Yuh-Jung got back to acting, to raise her sons as a single mother. She exemplifies resilience, dignity (she didn't speak ill of her ex publicly for a long time, and he even said that if she told the truth earlier, it would have been the end of his career as a singer), grace, wit, and love. Congratulations to the most deserved winner.
"I don't believe in competition. We are 5 actors with 5 different roles in 5 different movies, so we cannot compete with each other." Now that's humility. Even Amanda Seyfried went "uwu".
Yes, indeed, She had been saying prior to the Oscar D-day, that she is happy enough with being nominated by this great event and she said she didn't even expect to win. She was simply enjoying participating in the ceremony. She is witty and at the same time very humble.
She's so nice and grateful and humble!! The whole finally meeting Brad Pitt, the respect she have for Glenn close, the we all are winners, the tenderness she transmits (look at Amanda Seyfried), and thanking her boys and saying mama works hard was so cute!!

She said awards are great, the moments receiving them are amazing but what matters the most is the new job. I think she's very experienced in acting and in life so she's been keeping a cool head and attitude to the fame that came to her lately.
@@taniang123
And behind being full of praise for her remarkable acting, she always said also this..
So realistic performances are from hunger.
She strugled to raise two sons without any money after devorcing.
How strong she is.
Since when are Koreans POC ???
I love her.. How sassy she is, she is a person with no filter.
Korean r known for having no filter ;)
Most Koreans are!
*The Oscar is the result of mommy's hard work*
**the biggest flex** 🙌🏼❤️
Why am I crying?! I'm so happy for her. And Brad Pitt introducing the nominees- what a way to honor these ladies!
She's an incredible actress and I'm so happy that her talents are being recognised around the world. She is such a legend in South Korea and I absolutely love her.
She’s the cutest! Her speech and her outfit were amazing too! I was rooting for Maria Bakalova - the first Bulgarian nominated for an Oscar, but she totally deserved this! Her performance in Minari was spectacular! Congratulations Yuh Jung! Congratulations South Korea! 🇰🇷
She is too precious and entirely herself, and for that we will always stan. Totally deserved this award. Her performance in Minari was a privilege to watch.
westerners dont unserstand how legendary she is. she’s one of the most well respected actresses in asia its so funny seeing her only getting recognized in the west NOW...... its like seeing meryl streep only getting an oscar in 2021
Yesssssssssss!
No
@@Gay-rh7yz quit hating for no reason
How many asian awards did Meryl Streep got?
@@egyvalaki2774 none lol
oh god, she's too sweet. her humor is 💯
Lol
She doesn't believe in competition.... I could feel that comment really came from her deep inside. What a humble, beautiful, smart and hardworking single mom who became a legend! Our precious K-grandma above all K -pop idols!!
She HAD TO work literally in order to survive with two kids after divorce from her absolutely irresponsible ex-husband. But now look at the result of all those years.
I don't believe in competition either but I believe in faith, loyalty, hard work, true effort and true love. I'm so proud of her as a woman, as a mom and as a human being. God bless you, Youn.
AMEN! 50+ years of sheer tenacity, determination, and just straight-up grit. She has my highest respect!
RESPEKT!!! - Parasite
Her ex-husband not only irresponsible he’s also a cheater. And he have the audacity to say that he still support her career and watch Minari on first day of release. Such a garbage 🤬🤬
@@Rynassa Right???? He ignored his responsibility for that long period, and NOW he praises her and trying to act like he's a conscientious person🤣🤣🤣
So funny that Youn achieved so many careers and meantime he hired a ghostwriter for his painting to be called himself artist🤣🤣
Well said. I totally agree with you.
윤여정선생님, 너무 너무 축하드려요!!! 해외파 한국인으로써 미나리와 선생님께서 전세계의 주목과 사랑을 받는모습, 넘 자랑스럽습니다.
She's really a role model. It's a well-known fact in Korea, but here it is to whomever reading this now:
Youn Yuh-Jung stopped acting for a bit right after her first big break because she was married to a famous singer, Cho Young-Nam, for 12 years or so, and they moved to the US together.
Thanks for the info.
I really appreciate it.
여기 런던인데요 새벽에 계속 응원하면서 기다렸어요 ㅜㅜㅜㅜㅜ 너무 멋집니다 윤식당의 그 분이라니 ㅜㅜㅜ ㅎㅎ 눈물나요!! thanks for your historical moment with all Korean
"I don't believe in competition. We are 5 actors with 5 different roles in 5 different movies, so we cannot compete with each other."
Now that's humility. Even Amanda Seyfried went "uwu".
She just seem really happy to be with other great actors. Award was likely bonus for her.
RUclips
Yes, indeed, She had been saying prior to the Oscar D-day, that she is happy enough with being nominated by this great event and she said she didn't even expect to win. She was simply enjoying participating in the ceremony. She is witty and at the same time very humble.
She's so nice and grateful and humble!! The whole finally meeting Brad Pitt, the respect she have for Glenn close, the we all are winners, the tenderness she transmits (look at Amanda Seyfried), and thanking her boys and saying mama works hard was so cute!!
I've been watching this lady since I was 12 years old in K-dramas...and to finally see the day she won an Oscar!!!! It's amazing🙏🏾
Is it me or does people keep watching this exquisitely humble speech over and over again..
I watched so many times. And I'll keep watching it. :)
me too
i never thought anyone could deliver a speech as amazing as Olivia Colman's oscar speech... Yuh-jung Youn proved me wrong
She is really noble. I feel that she is a wonderful adult
As a student in Korean and a lover of Korean dramas and movies, I am so happy for the success of this talented and humble woman. Last year I was amazed by Joon Ho's 'Parasite' performance, this year by Jung Youn.. keep going Koreans I am proud of you
Beautiful heartfelt speech, but what I loved the most about it? She did it all in English. She could've easily chosen to use a translator, but she felt it was important to speak English tonight to the her fellow nominees and the American TV viewing audience. Much respect
So
I love her!! I know here from Mrs Yoon's Kitchen in Viki and an episode of Master in the House. She is BRILLIANT! Well deserved win. This speech was such a feel-good speech. Olivia Coleman still gives the best award win speeches and since she didn't win, Mrs Youn delivered a pretty good one :-). She's lovely.
I saw her recently in "Youn's Stay".. it's like Youn's Kitchen season 3
When Koreans wins Oscars (Director Bong to Youn) => Humble, Praise for other competitors and Make fun of themselves.
With a hint of black comedy against Western centrism
She's so savage and cute at the same time 😭😭❤️❤️
Her portrayal of the grandmother in Minari is exquisite and brought me to tears. As fascinating as the other nominees were in their roles Big Congratulations to the academy for getting it right.BRAVO!
RUclips we
Mr. Brad Pitt....finally....nice to meet you! 😂😂 Hahaha...I completely laughed a lot 😂 Such a wonderful actress...totally deserved!
😂😂🤣🤣🤣
You know what it's always hard to see CEO in every work place lol
Her acting was outstanding. She truly deserved it.
This means so much not just to Koreans but to the entirety of the Asian Community. It gives us hope that a few years from now, we'll see more Asians be it Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Malaysians, Filipinos up there in that prestigious Oscar stage winning awrads from different categories, giving empowering speeches, showing their charisma, humour and wit. Here's to today and all the better days to come!!
Hopefully that Filipino films will soon gained recognition at the Oscars and the Philippines along with the Filipino people will be saying Mabuhay.
@Ninja Crackpot Like, the westerners needs to change their act and give Asia a chance. Japan, China, and South Korea has shown their cinematic might and the Philippines needs to do it too.
Asian movie industry has a strong history and doesn't need recognitiom by americans. I understand your happiness with an environment much more inclusive but Asia has made masterpieces in past decades..少年 (Boy) by Ōshima, 羅生門 (Rashōmon) by Kurosawa, Hana-bi by Kitano, Exiled by Johnnie To, Pickpocket by Jia Zhangke, To Live by Zhang Yimou...and so on. Go check it out 😘
@@SithisKnows And including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (卧虎藏龙, Wò hǔ cáng lóng) by Ang Lee.
@@SithisKnows Same for you. Oscars are literally the biggest and most prestigious award for actors/actresses, directors and all the people who work in the industry. Who care if it's an american thing, everyone deserves to be recogniced for their work all over the world and that's what they want. Not to be recogniced "just by americans".
I come back to this now and then. Hands down one of the best Oscar speeches in history. " Sons this is the result because mommy works so hard " has me in tears every time.
I love her since foxy lady.
I’d always love her and she finally won an Oscar.
I loved her in the drama The king two hearts, she was fabulous.
Wow, I can't believe that you watched Foxy lady. You must be a real movie lover.
@@jannabity hahaha that is actually my most favorite TV series in Korea. I don’t speak Korean, I don’t even know what she said in Korean but still she fascinated me. I mean the way she talk and her facial expression. Literally one of the best actress in Korea.
What a lucky coincidence! Every year, the previous year's Best Supporting Actor always presents the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Brad Pitt won last year for Once Upon a time in Hollywood AND he's also the producer of Minari.
Tremendous respect for this Lady. With or without oscar she’s a brilliant actor like Glen.
Lol
Hahaha, theres that Korean wit and humor I love! I dunno if its because of the delivery or just life experience, you cannot help but laugh and get what she's getting at especially for someone who's been in the acting industry for decades! I'm glad she won - more diversity in Oscars! Mommy work so hard has such a witty tone to it!! She's endearing!
The
I think she deserves it and i really like her sentence, especially this "we are the winner for the different movie, we played different role". I love her
I almost cried because I was touched by her honesty and speech. I am so proud that she is Korean
Congratulations, Ms. Youn!
I loved her on Dear My Friends.
Me too 😀
It’s one of my favorite drama too.
I love her!!! It’s soon as I saw her performance in Menari, I knew she would be nominated and win!! Congratulations!!! Well deserved and so witty!!
such a wonderful speech! I'm so happy to see the wonderful history of korean movies.
She is charming and funny and obviously a great actress. I am happy for her and proud to see her win.
Being a Asian, I'm proud of her! Witty, humourous and respectful artist. ❤️
Being blue, iam also proud.
@toronto daddy im proud of u
I had no idea she even spoke English. She is and was the delight of Minari and also the Oscars. Best speech of the night and possibly one of the best of all time. I would say she is the Meryl Streep of Korea but she's only one actress I've ever seen so there may be better. So far she is better than Meryl Streep because she speaks two languages and is the most humble, sweet, and humorous person I've ever seen give a speech at the Oscars. What a fantastic person!!!
Muchas felicidades! Estoy muy orgullosa como una inmigrante surcoreana, y amo esta película MINARI! Felicitaciones!!
I'm so proud of you as a Korean. I especially like the careful attention and humility that come from the phrase "I don't believe in competition". Congratulations, congrats!😍❤💗💖

If you actually watched minari, soonja steals every scene and makes you emotional over how she perfectly reminds you of your own grandma and your own relationship with her.the actress deserved the award 100 percent.
Congratulations to her! She is so humble and a great actress!
And down-to-earth. Youn Yuh-Jung is one special actress and one of a kind.

THIS IS WHY SHE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ACTRESSES IN KOREA, YOU CAN SEE HER CHARACTER SHINE THROUGH SO PURELY AND SO LUMINOUS. SHE OWNED THE STAGE BUT WITH A MELLOW, BEAUTIFUL LIGHT.
I love HER! Sweet and sense of humor~~~ Congratulations! Korean legendary actress and now International world star, Youn Yuh Jung!
She's adorable! Hope she wins more and more so that we can hear this lovely lady speaking.
