He's probably not used to being filmed doing his job. And it's got to get a bit taxing with people saying 'Hold on, let me move the camera' over and over in the middle of a supposed non-stop conversation.
Should be fine Matt. I bought a 3.2 Targa from them years ago - it was fine. They price their cars keenly and turn them over, rather than ask a high price and hold stock for too long. That's why they don't offer discount. check suspension bushes.
Matt its never a mistake to buy or do something you've always wanted to do in life. You only live once... enjoy life. Thats what we are here for, to enjoy life
Congrats Matt! Very nice to see a normal guy who's not ultra rich as well get your dream car! You love cars and make us love cars with your honest reviews, which are the best consumer reviews on the net. Love you Matt! And drive the dream... good luck. Looking forward for more reviews. Great work Carwow!
love how the guy refuses to move on price yet his car he was selling was sub par, brakes, mot, servicing, window not working, I would have walked away, plenty more about, check Kenny Dunn in Edinburgh Porsche specialist.
I've always liked that incarnation of the 911. Of course I've always liked to be the fan of the underdog as well. Doesn't matter what "most people" think, as long as you find the right thing to yourself just stick with it and enjoy it!
'We never negociate on price' Well I would turn my back and walk out... What is that for bullshit and garage... So because its a Porsche? Well it's an old one and not that expensive. And it's evennot a real Porsche Dealer. The paint has some small issues and also the windows and some other little things. So yes negociate about the price is def. something I would have done... But oke Mat, nice car and Im sure you will enjoy this car. Have fun and im looking forward for new videos like this!
Porsche generally doesn't negotiate on price. it's not that specific dealer. I haven't owned one myself but I have heard this from multiple people already.
It's a 16 year old used car from some corner dealership. Ofc it has to be negotiable. Especially since he put a tag on the car, and after that Mat pointed out problems which the dealer only addressed in a half assed manner. I doubt he will have really put on new brake pads for example.
Congrats Mat, I personally always like d 996 911, but @ the end of the day its more important that your happy with the car, never mind what other people think, thats the fun in life, we all have our personal likes & dislikes!
Problem with buying older top end cars is that the bills can be crippling. This still represents nearly 25% of the original price. Only camper vans do better but they have van bills.
Brave purchase. Tested the 3.4 and the 3.6 years ago and would never choose the 3.4 over the 3.6. The extra torque of the 3.6 makes all the difference and the headlights are a lot more attractive.
Hi Mat, been watching ur reviews since carbuyer, its great to know tat u've bought ur dream car, hope u'll enjoy every moment with ur dream car...all the best in ur career also.
Honestly I would have not bought the car and the reason is simple. The car has low mileage and the salesman tells me it is a London car. So basically, the car has spent most of his life driving in the city, or at least the last 8 years which the salesman says they have been servicing it. I would rather have a second hand car which has spent most of his life in the highway (motorway) rather than a car which has low mileage and spent most of his life in the city.
Cold startup is the worst time for an engine as the bearings are dry for a few seconds. Multiply that by a billion for a car that lived its life in a city.
'grats Matt. Have fun! I finally managed to get my dream car earlier this year. R34 Skyline with only 11k miles on it. It's such a special car to drive. Paid a lot but you can't beat that feeling when you at last get that ride you always wanted.
I really loved this, thank you Mat! I wish I was even 20% as knowledgable as you about buying a car, the first car I bought was an overpriced Passat that a year later has a ton of costly engine-related issues (and it's a late 2010 model). edit: congrats and enjoy the car, you deserve it
Put in a short shift kit. Forget the new exhaust or gonzo hack. You are not 16 anymore. Spend your money on new coil overs (W030 option kit), bushing and go have some fun. Although keep some cash and an eye on that oil weeping. The seals on the RMS and IMS go eventually.
I can't really tell, but does the 911 have metallic paint? It seems it has the standard paint. Also I'd suggest clay clean the paint (from what I can tell it's not in it's best condition) and apply a fresh layer of resin to remove paint swirls, tiny scuffs, then apply wax to make it shinny and pop the color and finally a sealant to keep it nice and clean.
Its amazing how few Porsche cars arrive on the market, without that optional adaptive steering wheel. The majority of Porsche owners have bought their vehicle from new, and very few ive looked at, in quite a few main dealers around the country, have cars with the desirable adaptive steering wheel option. The factory fitted adaptive steering wheel, is decent value compared to a lot of the expensive items on the options list, and its an option that makes everyday driving such a pleasure. Whatever the model, 911, Cayman, Panamera, very few come with the optional adaptive steering wheel. I wonder why ?
I gotta say I love the headlights and body shape of the 996, and with the gt3 wing it just looks mad. I like the 996 more than the newer Carreras with the small circular headlights
Best best best video for what questions you should ask when you go for car hunting It feels natural and no acting on it Can you do more for like used skylines or BMW 335i Like what stuff we should look for before we buy one?
You should have taken Rebecca Jackson shopping with you. Knows her Porsches and I'm sure she could have negotiated a deal with the salesman! Cracking buy though Mat!
Watched this a few times Matt and decided it’s my time now to get one!! Same year as yours and have been worrying about a few usual horror stories but just need this I’m my life now!! 😁👌🏼 you still happy with your choice Matt now you’ve had some life with the car?? 🤔
That last statement you made is “ that you love it “ is all that matters. I actually love the colour of the interior. Mine is black and I would prefer your interior but hey ho. Lovely clean looking car
Man idk how car buying is in UK but if someone told me I couldn't negotiate on the price I'd walk out right then and there. There are plenty of other good examples out there to choose from, from dealers willing to play ball. I hope they at least fixed the car up for you at no extra cost. But enough negativity, congrats on the Porsche! I hope it gives you many miles of fun. Enjoy it!
I'm happy for Matt .. doesn't matter if everyone else doesn't like it , the interior etc ..as long as he likes it ... life's too short , follow your dreams lol .....

Well done !!!!! I've had a 3.4 - so much fun. I got a new iMS kit put on mine - but in hindsight - I reckon it could have stayed with out the upgrade. Great driving car :)
JD2ndcity nah too common. They aren't as quick as everyone makes out the one to have is the CSL or and e36 m3 evo. Saying that though Z3M coupes are getting expensive
Hey Mate! I understand your love of the 911. I really don't care so much for cars but I do loves me a 911. I can't believe you got your 996 man. Please lets see more Porche videos.
That grin when you agreed to buy it was brilliant! It's always exciting buying your dream motor.
the seller dose not look like he want to sell anything
AtomicAutopsy I suspect the deal was done before they actually filmed the video.
that makes him a good salesman
the kind of salesman u have to beg to take your money
He's probably not used to being filmed doing his job. And it's got to get a bit taxing with people saying 'Hold on, let me move the camera' over and over in the middle of a supposed non-stop conversation.
and selling a car that is not ready for sale!

There is no way I would purchase any car from that sales rep.
But most of them are like that; shifty and know very little about cars.
Think that dealer has a reputation for clocking.
Porticraft have an excellent reputation
Why not? No point making that point and not giving a reason unless you just trying to clickbait
Very good reputation this dealership been there a long time
next week on car wow... Mat loses his license after doing 125 mph on the m6
LV when I learnt to drive my uncle told me the M6 toll had no speed limit (not true). My ford puma did 130mph and I was very lucky not to get caught!
supercooled Good point, don't drive that fast kids, not a good idea!
LV actually somebody vandalized it by jumping on the roof. Mat isn't too happy about it lol
@@joemacleod-iredale2888 as far as I recall no fixed cameras on M6 toll. M40 wins best UK motorway for speeding (except for unmarked cars).
Came back to this video today (same day Mat posted his collecting a 992 GT3RS video). Amazing. Also nuts to see how cheap 996s uses to be!
Matt its never a mistake to buy or do something you've always wanted to do in life. You only live once... enjoy life. Thats what we are here for, to enjoy life
Mat looked so happy with his car! Very original man, I wish you the best and may life give you a brand new 911!!!
Great car Mat, you deserve it, now to get it nicely detailed, enjoy.
Congrats Matt! Very nice to see a normal guy who's not ultra rich as well get your dream car! I have to say Matt, I've never really liked 911s but your enthusiasm is slowly turning me around!
Too bad it doesn't have iDrive. 😂
®ioT lol
… not yet anyway ;)
carwow congraaats
so are you adding I drive?
Ugh a Porsche, yea a big mistake
I've always liked that incarnation of the 911. Of course I've always liked to be the fan of the underdog as well. Doesn't matter what "most people" think, as long as you find the right thing to yourself just stick with it and enjoy it!

it's called supply and demand. google it.
Even with this supply and demand theory, it's possible to negociate. z00h
Carpassion19 it's not if you hold the market by the balls like the rolex does.

I will be dreaming my Porsche for many nights to come though.

Congrats! Let's hope this nine eleven won't turn out to be a disaster.
vecernicek2 nice
lol
somebody vandalised it
"a 16 year old car, and it's just so tight"
6:35 Did I hear right? XD
FBI open up
Honestly I love you man, love your personality, your humour and your videos. Keep it up!
I actually like the different headlights of the 996 and find the 993 ghastly. So enjoy Matt!
amen
Brave purchase. Tested the 3.4 and the 3.6 years ago and would never choose the 3.4 over the 3.6. The extra torque of the 3.6 makes all the difference and the headlights are a lot more attractive.
I believe it's a good one Matt ! Congrates mate.
Not the biggest fan of the 996, but It's a good car.
As far as 911s go... Not really x)
I drive a 22 year old 1.3L Corolla, so I can't realistically diss a 911.
996 is a good car. Coming from a 991 owner.
I'm worried about IMS problem (intermediate shaft) in the 996 engine
mars4oscar it's fixable.

Exactly my thoughts. Stop/start driving. Plus the comment about sweating oil?

Leather should have been red. For me it looks like a dull car. A rear spoiler would make him less dull already.
yeah red would be great
i think hes seen enough red leather already
Quite like the blue plus tan combo actually. if he lived in a sunnier clime I'd even like a light blue.
The reason why I love this car because when I was young my fave movie is the cars and I really love sally the Porsche
Refreshing that you were not pretentious with, I can absolutely relate to your experience! Always enjoy you videos!
I love that contrast colour and pure driving feeling !! Worth every cent
Congratulations ! My dream car is a 911 as well :)
Personal favourite is the 2.7 RS, but in no way can I buy one of those!
Great choice mate, cheers
Love the video, different to your normal once, more like this please. Please show us your car collection.
I know it's still a 911, but I can't get over the headlamps...
Selleswiet LED is the only way to go
15 years ago there were no LED headlamps.
They don't look as bad in the flesh
With those headlights and the dodgey crank bearings, this has to be one of the ugliest and shitiest Porsches ever.
what car do you drive ? stop hating
Matt made that dude nervous with his knowledge. haha. Gr8 pick Matt !!
Enjoyed the video! Just picked up a 2002 C4 cab...Not sure why so many dislike the look of the 996? I think they are quite beautiful...Congrats.
Congrats Mat on your dream car
Good points around no driver aids and throttle cable. Also it's narrower than any newer 911. Congrats!!
Congrats!!! What a lovely car. Got me poking around for one here in the states. Love your channel! My go to for reviews. +10
Wow! You are a really tough negotiator! You just beat this guy down and down. You got your 'haggle' on!
I really loved this, thank you Mat! I wish I was even 20% as knowledgable as you about buying a car, the first car I bought was an overpriced Passat that a year later has a ton of costly engine-related issues (and it's a late 2010 model).
edit: congrats and enjoy the car, you deserve it
well done Matt, it's not perfect and that's why it's great! Most importantly you seem to Love it

Congrats! I love the contrast

That's my car! I just bought a 1999 911 in the same color and I love it!
Awesome video and seriously cool car!
So everything is normal to this seller
As long as the IMS has been done, you're golden. Enjoy it. If not, have it done immediately before the engine grenades.
Best best best video for what questions you should ask when you go for car hunting

A 911 is my dream car too, a 997 Carrera S in silver with tan interior :)
Congratulations Mat on buying your dream car. Have a good time.
Not for me mate.
Wanna come with me when I'm buying my next car Mat? Could use your help. :)

Congrats man, dream come true.

Looks like a mad cruiser
first of all congrats man... enjoy your new ride bro
Congrats Mat!
You bought a great car to drive. older Porsches are the pure driving machines. congrats!
0:33 I just imagined how they staged this :D
"Could you please open the door of that car and pretend you're being sick"
At the end of the day any car can go wrong
Congrats on your purchase, Matt!
Very enjoyable - more please. Salesman slippery as a Teflon coated eel.

Matt, you've inspired me to buy one, just got a 3.6 996!
+wakkadakkaify get the exhaust hack done
You know what, I seriously considered it after watching your video - but for the moment my car seems plenty loud!
Porsche never be a mistake👌 and the 996 is a pure driver's car. good choice and Congratulation Mat
I owned both a year 2000 Porsche 911 and a 1992 Toyota MR2 (both automatic) at the same time and I preferred driving the MR2 around town.
Please don't Park that beautiful machine on the road. Please tell us your got a garage for it. You deserved nice car for a nice driver.
Love the more personal take on the format!
Still love the color combo.
congrats Mat, well done! Enjoy your dream machine
I love Porsche due to their exhaust sound✌..so refined
It sounds like a Honda...
Exactly josh xD
I'm happy for Matt .. doesn't matter if everyone else doesn't like it , the interior etc ..as long as he likes it ... life's too short , follow your dreams lol .....

300bhp is not a lot for a sports car by today'standard, but surely plenty enough for a bit of fun without traction control. I personally wouldn't pay that much for a 16yrs old 996. But as long as it puts a smile on your face! Enjoy the ride.
well it'll definitely put smile on your face every time you hit the accelerator
not my favorite Porsche but I love the interior beige

Having looked at some similar age Boxsters I must be one of the few that actually likes the headlamps! Nice colour.
Looks a nice example matt, colours are such a personal preference. for me a 911 check is history, have known weak spots been addressed, body damage, corrosion issues, brakes, tyres (clutch in your case) and exhaust including manifolds.

Spooky, I've been looking at getting a 996 for the past few months then my fav reviewer goes and buys one as well! Bore scoring is something to be aware of but from my research the IMS and bore scoring and seal issues are not as much a problem as made out especially on these older cars! The older the car the less likely it is to be an issue! Buy it and maintain it, if it needs a new clutch get the IMS upgraded then? Oh, I do like the blue and beige combo! Congratulations on buying your dream car! =) Hope you enjoy it and, hopefully, make some videos about it. Cheers!
I have one same exterior and interior color that Mat test drive, it is a great car for 17 years!
Should've bought a mint 46 M3.
+JD2ndcity that was an option but it's not as special as the Porsche.
It will be in another 5 years time! But I get your point; it is a 3 series.
what other cars you considered as an options, if you dont mind telling?
e46 will end up being more of a classic. Would be my choice!!
JD2ndcity nah too common. They aren't as quick as everyone makes out the one to have is the CSL or and e36 m3 evo. Saying that though Z3M coupes are getting expensive

The interior looks sweet mate 😊
Check the clearance between the steering fluid system and the exhaust system. Nearly killed myself because of that a few days ago.
Proper dealer, not used as a daily driver...as long as you got some spare money for maintainence not a bad choice :-) Have fun.
Not a mistake. You only live once, so have some fun. Many happy miles with your new wheels m8.
