I was 14 in 1973. A mate from down the road and I caught the train into Brisbane city to see our first concert August 1, 1973. Status Quo. We were about 5 rows from the front left of center. Couldn't believe how loud it was, or the number of hot girls there. I was trance like watching Rick Parfitt, who at the time was the coolest dude on the planet in my eyes. He was wearing a red coca cola t-shirt and faded blue jeans....and his long hair was more blonde that usual. I spent the next 10 years trying to look like Parfitt.
Im the same age and I was totally in love with Rick Parfitt at 15 - I remember swapping my new Deep Purple Stormbringer Album with a friend for her Piledriver.
There is a point in every bands career that they peak, i think there is no dispute that what we are viewing here is the Quo at their very very best, you don't even have to like them as a band to appreciate how good this performance is.
Best Quo tune by far, it's only when I watch this and actually see him I realise the intricacies that John Coghlan brought to this tune. Amazing drummer, amazing song by an amazing band. Thanks for the 42.5 years of rocking.
the rocking years of SQ are about 50+ years Ma Kelly's greasy spoon 1970, their 3rd album, was their 1st after the psychedelic period. penned today 2022
@@VRTrucker I am born 1959 ( Amsterdam). I grew up with it. Late 60-ies, begin seventies great music from the other side of the Channel. And yes, Quo with Coghlan was much better then without. You can see the special camera at John at Wembley Arena 2013 ( Oh baby )
I had the pleasure of seeing them live in Melbourne in 1979. (showing my age now!). Had front row seats and it is one of the greatest shows I have ever seen
Someone must have more from this gig in the can somewhere which wipes the floor with the live album sound.. This is premium quo at their peak. Rossis tone is immense
THIS song shows you just how good the quo really were. They are 'loose' but at the same time sooo 'tight'. I mean just look at the lads here? Totally into it. I really dont know why the drummer and the bassist were made to leave the band. But to many die-hard quo fans, THIS collection of fella's will always be.... THE Quo. RIP to Alan and sincere best wishes to the loved ones he has left behind. x
John Coghlan left because of the amount of Columbian smelling salts being used and not long after, Alan Lancaster left (quite rightly) in disgust because of "Marguerita Time". If you watch their Top of the Pops performance, you'll see him replaced by Jim Lea from Slade..
When I was a young boy of 5 or 6, my dad had a version of this on VHS along with lots more of the greatest of the Quo. I remember I got my mum to tie string onto an old tennis racket so I could air guitar along to the literal legends. Im 37 now and I've never lost my love them! This song especially... Mr Parfitt, as always, take a bow my son! QUO IS LOVE! QUO IS LIFE!!! I cant thank my parents enough for exposing me to such amazing music! QUO NOW! QUO FOREVER!
Quo got me started playing guitar in 1974. I bought one of their song books with all the chords in and bashed away to their records for hours on end. Roll over lay down is sheer magic. Better than those 10 second lead parts that a lot of bands can only manage.
Those were the days - folks!! The Frantic Four! John is the driving machine in the band - no other Quo drummer could beat him - John was (still is) world class!!
I remember hearing this song for the first time when I was a teenager... Me and a few mates had just formed our first band. I clearly remember holding the phone up to the speakers, blasting it at full volume down the line to my best mate who played bass... "Whaddaya think?" "It's fuckin' awesome!" "We are fuckin' doin' this one!" "Fuckin' right!" Fun times.
You've got to Luv the Old Pommie Rockers!! When it comes to Hard Core Rock and Pure Comedy you can't beat the English and Aussie Crew of the 70's and 8o's :)
I still have most albums on cds these days, but when i first saw this on count down i became a Quo fan and after watching it again, I still get the rush. Rock on Quo.
I still have all their records and after 17and a half years finally got them out of the box and playing them again on my record player. Still the best in the world .
Rest In Peace blond Rick Parfitt!! I love this live version since the first time I heard it as a kid 40 years ago! Sheer energy and boogie fun. I first thought this video was recorded live, because the sound is identical in every detail. HOWEVER, as somebody argued: it looks like playback, because there is no audience to be seen. And I guess he is right: if it would have been live, for sure they would have shown the rocking audience. Too bad, would have loved to be there when they played. Just listened to it again at the Dutch Top2000 - what an energy is in this song.

My favorite band, also one of the best live bands, not neccesarily because of pyrotechnics or anything like that, but because they delivered and had fun on stage, not to mention that they sounded better live than on studio, especially in their prime time during the 70's. The band that I listen to the most since my 12th, and I am 18 now. Just brilliant, just a shame that they had gone more mainstream during the 80's.
How did they never take over America with rocking tunes like these?
Funny, just thinking 💭 that.

One of the best quo performance ever!!!!
Having grown up with this music, I can can honestly state that my youth years were never ever wasted. The Quo of the 70s was simply magnificent.
Yes bro
I grew up with them and I agree. Best live concerts I've been to.
Couldn’t agree more ! Was in the punk rock myself , but have to give credit where credit is due !
Status Quo have long been underrated as a band....they deserve much more credit than they get.
Group not band
This problaby the best Status Quo song of all time. 🎸🎸🎸🥁
The vibes in this version are pure magic!! If you play in a band, no matter which instrument, you know what I am talking about!

Never in the history of Rock N Roll was so much owed,by so many,to so few, long live Quo.
It took my breath away to read that Rick Parfitt had died. A sad loss of a top star of the 70s. Thanks for the memories Rick. RIP.
First ever band seen live and it was awesome. Loved them since Hammersmith in the 70's and always will.

The best album, imo..

I headbanged to this song in 1975 at the age of fourteen and I am still headbanging to it today.
The band that, as a kid, compelled me to love rock n roll!
The intro to sweet Caroline started me off.
I can listen to this song over and over again...feeling 16 again:)

Probably one of the best examples of the frantic four live, one of my favourite songs performed effortlessly
