I have changed the vent canister and the purge (under the hood) and it helped but last week the engine light came back on. I just want it fixed so i dnt have to spend another winter standing out in the cold for 20 to 30 min to fill. My only worry is getting the clips off but i hope i figure it out without breaking them.

    • @HighOctane101

no they should not, usually there is a foam pad inside that might be falling apart allowing them to fall out. You may have to get new one or shake all the pellets out and call it good.

Just did this. Advise: start w the vent ‘periscope’ filter. Mine is a 2017 single cab. The snorkel is located on top of the fuel filler housing. Just 3 screws and push it in. The filter hood is press fit w tabs, so easy to access. There are 2 sponges which clog up w dirt. Just pry out and wash. Reverse for assembly. Only mess w the charcoal filter if this fails to fix issue.

I got it only problem the part wasn't defective 😣 It's the vent solenoid which I found buried almost above the gas tank in between the frame and body I couldn't get the stupid thing out. Every video I found shows it in a nice easy spot , guess I bought the wrong year GMC.

Hi nice video really good way to help people out with this problem. I'm sorry to ask don't know if you or anyone reading this, when this is dirty can it also cause performance issues or vacuum leak??I've noticed my car goes really lean after refueling. Thank you

I would take a look at replacing the purge valve on canister sound like sticking open in my opinion

@@HighOctane101 Thanks for your reply, would that be the valve solenoid that is attached to the canister?? I'm thinking the same I'll probably clean the canister and replace the valve.

The canister looks like it had a crack near the small middle tube.

I replaced Evap canister replaced valve solenoid and still taking me 10 minutes to fill my tank. Any ideas?

You might want to check and see if the vent lines to the canister are not plugged and some vehicles have a small filter that is located next to the purge valve it is small and round and looks like it can breathe at the top

So, I might not have to buy new one? I could just blow shit out of it? I'm having problems filling up my cobalt. Mechanic said there's no fuel leak after smoke test, but it's likely the canister/vent. Dummy light is on and also I've just got some horrible smells coming out of the tank with irregular pressured gasses whizzing out, when I open it.

good video. The vent valve where that dirty side hose goes, is another thing to clean out. I have cleaned dozens of them, some with half a cup of fine dirt in them. I just worked on one where they relocated the vent valve to up under the hood where there should be way less dust, using a length of heater hose. If there is an electrical wire it will have to be lengthened too. I have an 07 monte carlo coming in with the same problem. Usually get an OBD code like P0440 to P0449 and check engine light.

I would not recommend it, might have excess vapors under and around the vehicle could cause a fire if it found an ignition source
