      @baronoflivonia. I have a 2005 Chevy Express 1500. It has 260,000 miles on it now. Just recently the engine started running rough. The code showed it was an EVAP issue. I can fill my gas tank normally but was wondering if you had the 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 of your van before you had the problem with fill your tank.

    I have the same fuel filling problems, also getting the Check Engine code P0446. This is extremely frustrating!
    I replaced the vapor canister vent valve/solenoid after watching a video that said that should have fixed the problem.
    It didn't fix the problem.
    My next move is to do exactly what you did in this video, since my truck has driven down many dirt roads in its lifetime.
    Thank you for posting this video, I think it's going to save me a good amount of money.....and sanity.

      I purchased a brand new one from rockauto, took maybe 30 minutes to replace it. Completely solved the problem, and the error code never came back after I cleared it. Funny thing, the new one felt like it weighed about 2 pounds less than the old one. These things gather a lot of dirt over time.

    this worked on my 2016 Chevy Silverado w 137k miles. Thanks!! Had repair shop chasing the P0446 code and gas tank fill. Repair shop replaced the canister vent valve solenoid valve & hoses in and out, but still couldn't fill gas tank without gas pump clicking off every 2 seconds. I got RUclips smart thanks to High Octane & banged on the charcoal canister & hit it with compressed air repeatedly. Tank fills with no problem & no P0446 code anymore. Thanks!!

    The guy who maintains the pumps at Coop was there one day when I was filling up. He was worried about what this is doing to the pumps! He said I have heard of this happening but never seen it. Since then people have been coming out of the woodwork with the same issues. I just feel bad that when my Dad bought the 05 Chevy Silverado within a year it started clogging up. He was 80 years old and had to stand in the freezing weather and the extreme heat for way to long to put gas in his truck. What a shame we have to deal with this at this day and age. Thanks for the video, Zims!! I now know how to fix it myself! You Rock!!!

    Just did this. Advise: start w the vent ‘periscope’ filter. Mine is a 2017 single cab. The snorkel is located on top of the fuel filler housing. Just 3 screws and push it in. The filter hood is press fit w tabs, so easy to access. There are 2 sponges which clog up w dirt. Just pry out and wash. Reverse for assembly. Only mess w the charcoal filter if this fails to fix issue.

    My fuel tank pressure sensor failed and it was the first time in 4 years I had to reset the engine computer after I replaced the sensor. After that the Evap system would not go to 'Ready' to smog it. I drove it over 1500 miles - no check engine lights but didn't go to ready either. As a last resort I cleaned the charcoal canister and it reset two days later. The computer must be looking for different pressures and a plugged canister won't hit it. Thanks for making the video.

    Thanks for the video, it confirms what I thought my problem was on my 2005 Tahoe. One thing I feel I need to call you on is that at beginning of the video you said the EPA in its great wisdom.... in a sarcastic tone. Why is that? Do you not like clean air, just because something is not perfect or sometimes fails should not mean that we should not strive for an ideal outcome, me personally I will always err on the side of the environment. Take care and thanks again.

    • @jimgreen9983
      @jimgreen9983 8 лет назад

      EVAP system simply makes the gas burn before going into the air via the exhaust system, instead of evaporating it out the filler cap. Either way the fuel you put in your tank eventually goes in your air. This is just a bunch of complicated (and sometimes expensive) stuff to make you feel better about how those vapors exit the car. If someone WANTS to pay more for that then that is fine. But the problem is when the EPA FORCES us to have this on all cars now. You didn't get to weigh out how much difference this really effects air quality, and you didn't get to see exactly how much extra it adds to the sales price. Instead the EPA told us what to do.
      How'd you like them to tell you that you can no longer drive your 2005 Tahoe because its a heavy V8 that gets horrible mpg and that you should strive for an ideal environmentally friendly car instead?

    • @eyefromdasky3269
      @eyefromdasky3269 8 лет назад

    • @mrkattm
      @mrkattm 8 лет назад +1

      Ryan Leslie, I am not sure what you are trying to say. Are you saying we should have high air pollution because countries like China have high air pollution? This is not rocket science or even alternate facts, China and other under develop countries have poor air and water quality, it is a very checkable fact, the US has relatively clear air and water but this was not always the case, do your remember the 70s and acid rain, we are doing much better today

    • @UltraSS-nj8kd
      @UltraSS-nj8kd 7 лет назад

      The EPA is like a fresh college degree graduate trying to tell me how to do my job that I've had experience doing for 10+ years, when they have no idea they are just using ideas from a handbook. This system here bypassed would probably make the truck get 40mpg but that good old OPEC wouldn't like that one bit

    good video. The vent valve where that dirty side hose goes, is another thing to clean out. I have cleaned dozens of them, some with half a cup of fine dirt in them. I just worked on one where they relocated the vent valve to up under the hood where there should be way less dust, using a length of heater hose. If there is an electrical wire it will have to be lengthened too. I have an 07 monte carlo coming in with the same problem. Usually get an OBD code like P0440 to P0449 and check engine light.

    My problem is a little different but related. Among other problems I've been solving, I have a vacuum leak, I have replaced almost everything on my 04 Tahoe and still have a vacuum leak. I made a smoker to check the lines. A friend said he cut the vent line ends to the canister and used a threaded airhose fitting and a rubber hose and clamps. Also replaced the purge solenoid hose with hose and clamps. This is on the 2 large vent lines for the canister.

      I wouldn't think gas would be a problem unless it is full of dirt.

    You need to reroute the vent filter to underneath the hood instead of by the fuel tank it takes some heater hose and a couple of hose clamps

    Do you have to completely remove the canister? Would it be possible to unhook the hoses and blow it out while it's still mounted under the truck?

  • @williamjohnston2008
    @williamjohnston2008 11 месяцев назад

    It appears that it would be possible to remove the lines & blow out the dirt without taking the unit down from under the truck. In the case of my rusty 05 Silverado, the bolts holding the unit in place were so rusty, they would probably break off.

    Could this be the reason why I can only fill my blazer up with $32 worth the gas it’s a 19 gallon tank and at 250 a gallon it should be around $47.50 but it only takes about 13 gallons no matter what gas station I go to it’s so annoying having to stop for gas so often

    Would this work on a 97 Bonneville that chokes gas back on to it's owner lol? Seriously though. I have to run completely dry on gas before I can put gas in it without it choking. BTW, the gas hand is disturbed(not working). I can drive around all day then try and add gas the gas pumps will clicked before it gets .$0.50. Once I force about a gallon it starts to spew* on the ground or shoots out.

  • @ryanball6124

    • @HighOctane101
      @HighOctane101  9 месяцев назад

      I would say you may be overfilling the tank, when it’s full and clicks off don’t try topping it off.. look for cracks or bad lines to it

    So, I might not have to buy new one? I could just blow shit out of it? I'm having problems filling up my cobalt. Mechanic said there's no fuel leak after smoke test, but it's likely the canister/vent. Dummy light is on and also I've just got some horrible smells coming out of the tank with irregular pressured gasses whizzing out, when I open it.
