Absolutely adored Kim Zimmer and thought she should win as many Emmys as they would give her but I absolutely agree that Elizabeth Hubbard should have had at least one Emmy win for her incredible portrayal of Lucinda Walsh.
I remember seeing this live when it came on tv. Never heard of Elizabeth Hubbard but when I saw her clip I was awestruck. What a performance. 25 some years later I find it here. Thank you and I know every word she says in this reel. Thank you Ms. HUBBARD.
I love Kim and she deserves all the recognition she's gotten, but I agree: Liz Hubbard was ROBBED that year. She was amazing all season long. (And then some.)
Honestly She was probably behind Marcy Walker. Marcy won the next year I believe. The judges will judge actors by every blemish. Liz had a trait where she sometimes goes too fast in words. Also she's not quite on Erika and Kim's acting levels in terms of intensity.
What a shame that Hubbard never won an Emmy for ATWT. Hard to believe that each year that she was nominated, the panel thought some other actress was better.
If I am not mistaken (and I very well could be), but I think that Kim won the Emmy for the Reva suicide and Reva/Kyle/Maeve storyline. Now, I am a big fan of Elizabeth Hubbard's, but Kim did deserve this win. If you get a free moment, look up Guiding Light clips from about 12/24/1985 to about May 1986 and you will see why she won. Powerful emotion and probably some of Kim's best work. God Bless RUclips and everyone who has taken the time to post these classic soap clips!
Absolutely the truth here!!! It was for her work with Larkin Malloy in 1986 that was phenomenal. I’m just so glad she remembered to thank him because the two of them were magic on screen!
Yes, most of the reel she submitted this year dealt with the aftermath of her suicide attempt and Reva pouring her heart out to Fletcher in the hospital. She always put a variety of scenes on her submissions and the Emmy producers pick the show clips on their own.
You are most welcome--I agree about Elizabeth-- I really was into ATWT more at that time and the show was so superior to anything else at that time-- Glad Larry Martha and Greg won though Pat
Thanks for posting this patc2000! I love seeing these "oldies". Poor Kim, she looks so overcome with emotion! I really thought Elizabeth Hubbard would have won with the tape she submitted. Thanks also for including ATWT's win for drama series!! You read my mind. It was great seeing the GL table stand up in support for its sister show ATWT!
That was Elizabeth Hubbard's Emmy by right. Despite being a two-time Emmy winner, it's truly a crime that great actress never won for her brilliant creation of Lucinda Walsh on ATWT.
YOure right. Liz was totally snubbed that year. She was one of the best actresses in soap history. She sooo should have won that year. God I miss As the world Turns. These were the glory days of soaps.
I'll see what else I have from the early days-- I know I have when Bridget Reardon and Michael Z won as well as Monti and a great tribute to Betty Rae--the casting director for both ATWT and GL at one time But this Emmy show is the one that really gave the propos Patc
So David Canary is to Kim Zimmer as Anthony Hopkins is for Emma Thompson, at least for her first two Emmys? David Canary was the one who announced her as the winner in 1987 and 1990, just like Anthony Hopkins announced both of Emma Thompson's wins!
Ummm...Coop (John Driscoll) is on Y&R - just wanted to clear that up! And I love these clips of Kim Zimmerman - she rocks then and now! Thanks for posting!
@thmspierson You said it! I've watched the emmys for the last 10 years or so and nothing compares to the performances from the 80's. Even though nominated in this role about 10 times, for her to have never won is just unforgiveable -- especially when you see the performers they hand emmys to now a days. Kathryn Hays (Kim) was another power hitter in the 70's and 80's and I don't even think she's ever even been nominated. It took 35 years for them to hand one to Jeanne Cooper (Y&R). ??
Today the emmys are awarded by actors who nominate. A non soap watching panel tends to be more objective. How else can you explain JMW winning over MW.
I love Kim zimmer and Elizabeth hubbard both. I Kim zimmer did look over at Elizabeth's table when we went up to the stage, so she probably thought she was going to win. Kim zimmer in an past interview talked how she was influenced by Elizabeth hubbard and erika slezak. They also worked together on the doctors.
No, she wasn't robbed. Kim Zimmer had a huge story on Guiding Light--namely, recovering from a suicide attempt. The more down-to-eart Reva that we knew in later years was born in the year this Emmy was granted.
Yeah I didn't think she submitted that reel shown. Or did she? Maybe contrasted with something else? Comedy was hard to win with later on unless it's Anthony Geary.
Lucci benefitted from a well produced and written tv show for all those years she was nominated. ATWT and AMC in 01-02 and GH, AMC, and YR in the late 90s proved this with all of their nominations. Look at AMC after 2001 and Lucci couldn't overcome that mess but she was also NO LONGER a leading actress!
Oh you sure did miss out on probably the best of ATWT then-- That's when I started keeping my tapes for the most part and am so happy I have them--just so I can relive them--Comes in good at times like now when Chucky rules and Martha is leaving
@patc2000 I think this was an apology award, for not giving it to Zimmer the year before, when she deserved it for her portrayal of Reva's suicide attempt, its aftermath, and the volatile love affair with Kyle Sampson.
Yeah because guess who she was up against? Erika. The only person she really could not beat then or anytime. Also it was hard to award back to back with such competition. Except when it came to that woman. That woman won after a nine year nomination draught 18 years after this ceremony.
@thmspierson Two years later Elizabeth Hubbard was robbed by Kim Zimmer? Bullshit. Marcy Walker won in 1989 for her role as Eden Capwell on Santa Barbara. Marcy's submission was flat-out better than Hubbard's. One of the actors who talked about voting on the Emmys, as a voter himself, says that you can't go by anything but the submission tape. If Hubbard was losing, it was because her tapes simply weren't good--and remember that those tapes aren't these brief clips, but ten minutes of footage.
This was Liz Hubbard’s year. She was totally robbed by the academy. GL had a horribly written year and Zimmer wasn’t strong at all that year. I know because I watched both.
How did Elizabeth Hubbard never win an Emmy for playing Lucinda? It's criminal.
Yes
Absolutely criminal! Really unbelievable!!
Absolutely adored Kim Zimmer and thought she should win as many Emmys as they would give her but I absolutely agree that Elizabeth Hubbard should have had at least one Emmy win for her incredible portrayal of Lucinda Walsh.
ATWT and GL was the best soaps in the mid 80s to mid 90s. Great run for them.
Another World and Guiding Light
I remember seeing this live when it came on tv. Never heard of Elizabeth Hubbard but when I saw her clip I was awestruck. What a performance. 25 some years later I find it here. Thank you and I know every word she says in this reel. Thank you Ms. HUBBARD.
It is a crime against humanity that Elizabeth Hubbard never won an Emmy for As the World Turns.
kim zimmer number 1 no one can transmit emotions as she
Love Kim Zimmer! she's amazing
I love Kim and she deserves all the recognition she's gotten, but I agree: Liz Hubbard was ROBBED that year. She was amazing all season long. (And then some.)

What a shame that Hubbard never won an Emmy for ATWT. Hard to believe that each year that she was nominated, the panel thought some other actress was better.
I like how excited Larry Bryggman is that ATWT won. ATWT was on fire then. Great show.
LIz Hubbard--Lucinda of ATWT-
I agree with another poster--she was robbed that year--It wasn't just that scene-
She was great all that season
If I am not mistaken (and I very well could be), but I think that Kim won the Emmy for the Reva suicide and Reva/Kyle/Maeve storyline. Now, I am a big fan of Elizabeth Hubbard's, but Kim did deserve this win. If you get a free moment, look up Guiding Light clips from about 12/24/1985 to about May 1986 and you will see why she won. Absolutely the truth here!!! It was for her work with Larkin Malloy in 1986 that was phenomenal. I’m just so glad she remembered to thank him because the two of them were magic on screen!
Kim Zimmer was a force to be reckoned with honestly.
Yes, most of the reel she submitted this year dealt with the aftermath of her suicide attempt and Reva pouring her heart out to Fletcher in the hospital. She always put a variety of scenes on her submissions and the Emmy producers pick the show clips on their own.
I think you’re wrong. Hubbard deserved this head and shoulders above Zimmer. She was totally robbed.
You are most welcome--I agree about Elizabeth--
I really was into ATWT more at that time and the show was so
superior to anything else at that time--
Glad Larry Martha and Greg won though

MrDarrellmoo totally agree. Zimmer should not have won

Wow! Awesome to see old Daytime Emmy clips! Go Kim Zimmer! Seeing Frances Reid was very cute too.
A great day for ATWT, - 31 yrs and they still had 23 more to go!!
Kim Zimmer is amazing I really miss her smh
Love seeing Daytime Emmy clips--especially the vintage ones....I love Kim Zimmer and Reva...I do think Elizabeth was robbed
Yaya Kim!
Kim Zimmer was the best on guiding light
So David Canary is to Kim Zimmer as Anthony Hopkins is for Emma Thompson, at least for her first two Emmys? David Canary was the one who announced her as the winner in 1987 and 1990, just like Anthony Hopkins announced both of Emma Thompson's wins!

Should have gone to elisabeth hubbard!
@thmspierson You said it! I've watched the emmys for the last 10 years or so and nothing compares to the performances from the 80's. Kim needed a Cross your Heart bra!
From the clips I'm amazed Elizabeth Hubbard didn't win ,but with Award Shows you never know! Politics!!!
Was Marcy Walker up for Best Actress that year? I wish I could have seen that clip of hers in its entirety:)
She should have been in the younger actress because, she wasn't really old enough to be in the lead.
I love Kim zimmer and Elizabeth hubbard both. I
Kim zimmer did look over at Elizabeth's table when we went up to the stage, so she probably thought she was going to win. Kim zimmer in an past interview talked how she was influenced by Elizabeth hubbard and erika slezak. They also worked together on the doctors.
Elisabeth hubbard should have won!!
Of course she won Reva took over the entire show and everyone else's storylines became backburner.
It was a poor year for the show and Hubbard acted rings around Zimmer.
i AGREE
Hell no Damn Wonder Susan Lucci couldn't win but honestly elizabeth hubber should have WON this
Lucci benefitted from a well produced and written tv show for all those years she was nominated. ATWT and AMC in 01-02 and GH, AMC, and YR in the late 90s proved this with all of their nominations. Explain who Chucky is? Goutman?
Liz was robbed that year--sorry
And I love Kim really but that wasn't her year
DAVID CANARY RIP
😢

And Liz had her Liz-isms. She often acts like she woke up grumpy.
Such a ham!
*LOVE IT!!!*
Doug has been dead 15 years now--
He was and is the king--In my opinion
and that was a lousy clip for Kim to submit lol
First of all they don't show only submitted reels for nom clips.
Should've been Marcy Walker for the win!!
This was Liz Hubbard’s year. She was totally robbed by the academy. GL had a horribly written year and Zimmer wasn’t strong at all that year. I know because I watched both.
Kim deserves every award but she has the worst taste in clothes LoL
At least she didn't have her hair sticking up like Patti LaBelle in this one!
zimmer seems so fake,,,,,ick
Kim Zimmer was the best on guiding light
